PARISH MISSION STATEMENT We the people of St. Raphael Roman Catholic Church bring together diverse gifts and backgrounds to form a growing vibrant community centered in the Eucharist, the source and sign of our unity. In pilgrimage to the Kingdom of God, our mission is to demonstrate God's presence and love through: worshipping together, spreading the Good News, serving others, and enjoying Christ-Centered activities. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are committed to

sharing our time, our talents, and our treasures to fulfill God's will for our parish.

JUNE 21, 2020 TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Reflections on today's Gospel

MATTHEW 10:26-33 (Jeremiah 20:10-13; Psalm 69; Romans 5:12-15)

KEY VERSE: "So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows" (Mt 10:31). TO KNOW: Jesus instructed his twelve apostles to be courageous as they shared his mission of announcing God's reign. Despite the coming darkness and opposition, they should be fearless in proclaiming the light and truth of the gospel. Fear of persecution and death should not deter them. They should be more afraid of the evil one who could lead them to eternal destruction. Jesus encouraged his followers by reminding them of their worth before God. Sparrows were eaten by the poor, and were the cheapest of all the birds. If God cared for these tiny birds how much more were God's children valued? No ill-treatment on earth could compare with the ultimate fate of one who had been guilty of infidelity to God. If the apostles remained faithful to their witness, Jesus would testify to their fidelity at the final judgment. TO LOVE: Do I defend the faith when I am opposed? TO SERVE: Lord Jesus, help me to recognize my worth in God's sight

We are so glad you joined us! If you are new to our parish, we would like to invite you to become a member.

The Welcome Booth in the vestibule is open the first full weekend of every month or come by the Parish Office.

Visit our website for a registration form or more information.

During this difficult time in our community, we have served many families that have never needed food pantry assis-tance before. Our pantry needs have continued to grow with more demand in specific areas. As you can understand, there is a need for disinfectants, hand sanitizers, and surgi-

cal masks and gloves. We are also in need of all toiletry items and general household supplies.

As for the food supply, our most needed item is meat. If you are able to donate any quantities of fresh or frozen meat, direct from grocery store to Saint Raphael pantry, please call the church office to set an appointment so the food pantry will be able to transfer the meat immediately into freezer space. We ask that you do not bring meat from home freezers as this could potentially create a health risk. Thank you for your continued support. For appointment please call 479-756-6711.

PARISH LIFE DURING COVID-19 WEEKLY UPDATES Friday, June 19, 2020

COVID-19 CASES AT ST RAPHAEL: This week we were notified

by the ADH that two individuals who attended the 5:00pm Spanish on June 7th later tested positive for Covid-19. This transmission almost certainly occurred from elsewhere and the risk remains low for our parish given the amount of precautions in place. That said cases continue to climb in NWA and especially here in Springdale. Please wear your masks in all public places and socially distance by at least 6 feet.

The 2pm Special Mass on Sundays during this time of Covid-19 is cancelled effectively immediately.

Our regularly scheduled weekend Masses are not even close to the 25% maximum capacity allowed by Bishop Taylor, so there is no need for this extra Mass.

However, I urge those wishing to attend the Spanish Masses to come early because once we reach the 200 mark, no one else will be allowed into Mass.

As a reminder, here is our Weekend Mass schedule: Saturday 4:00PM (English) Sunday 7:00AM (English) 8:30AM (Spanish) 10:30AM (English) Livestreamed

12:30PM (Spanish) Livestreamed 5:00PM (Spanish) 7:00PM (Spanish)

Here are the rules about coming to Mass: If you have been diagnosed with Covid-19, not come to Church.

If you have been exposed to an individual diagnosed with Covid-19, whether family, friend, coworker, please refrain from coming to Mass and risking others.

If someone in your workplace was diagnosed with Covid-19, even if you were not near this person, consider staying away from Mass for a few weeks.

Remember you still need your mask & to keep a 6-foot distance from each other.

The symptoms of Covid-19 are a cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever chills, muscle pain, sore throat or loss of taste or smell. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.

Remember: The dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass remains in place.

DAILY MASSES & CONFESSIONS ARE CANCELLED THRU JULY 6TH.

With COVID-19 cases on the rise in Arkansas especially here in NWA and many being affected in our parish community, I am cancelling all daily Masses and Confessions until the week of July 7th. Weekend Masses will be celebrated at their usual hours and we will still hear confessions on Saturday morning for one hour 9:00am-10:00am and Saturday afternoons from 3:00pm-3:40pm during this time.

COVID-19 TESTING: in St Raphael Hall on Sunday, June 28th from 11am – 2pm

for any parishioners who wish to be tested. We encourage you and your family to take advantage of this opportunity.

All that is needed is one form of identification and your health insurance card, if you are insured.

You will enter the parish hall through the doors that face West End street along the walkway. Your temperature will be taken at the door. Everyone is required to wear a mask. After testing you will exit the north doors of the Parish Hall and return to your car via the walkway around the old church.

BILINGUAL TRANSLATORS ARE NEEDED to help Arkansas

Department of Health Staff who will be doing testing on Sunday, June 28th. We need 6 people to volunteers 3 hours from 11:00AM – 2:00PM. One person will be taking temperatures at the door and the 5 will assist ADH personnel with translation. PPE will be provided.

PRE 2020-2021: Covid-19 will have an affect on our PRE classes

this fall. We are still trying to decide how to have classes while ensur-ing the safety of our children and catechists. This will mean necessary changes to the program which we will reveal over the next few months. We will begin registration in July. However, we will call each family we have in the system. We will begin in early July calling fami-lies who have students entering into second year sacramental prepa-ration to register them for classes.

First Communion and Confirmation Masses previously

scheduled for April & May have been rescheduled during the months of September thru November. If you still do not know the scheduled date for your child, you need to call the office. 479-756-6711.

The Adoration Chapel is open 9AM – 5PM Monday thru Friday

If you want to spend time with the Lord on Saturday & Sundays, the main church will be open all day.

Please remember our chapel rules which include a maximum of 3 adorers, no children under 10, face masks are required and sit in the pews marked for adorers. I also recommend keeping your visits brief. One variable in the spread of Covid-19 is the amount of time spent in the presence of another person. Something to think about.

Contact Suzanne Chipollini — #879-0762 or [email protected]

to sign up for a shift and to receive the NEW code.

the Catholic Faith and wants to learn more

about the Church, our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation) classes

will begin this fall.

In the Covid-19 world which we live,

we need to look at how many people are signing up

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy

Sacrament.

I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You

into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into

my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself

wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

—Amen.

O my God, my only hope, I have placed all my trust in

you, and I know I shall not be disappointed. —Diary, 317

present obstacles to practicing the faith.
