BIRTHRIGHT OF WINDHAM: Dear Father Kennedy and Parishioners, Thank you for allowing Birthright to conduct a baby bottle fundraiser at your parish. Birthright helped over 1,600 Moms with babies last year. Each week we

supply 50 dozen diapers, clothing, hygiene and bath supplies to our clients. Birthright continues this essential service that saves the lives of unborn children and makes a lasting difference in many mothers’ and babies’ lives. Our service really is absolutely necessary. It is because of our churches and kind donations from each parishioner that we are able to provide the necessary items of care. Thank you for the help you have given. BIRTHRIGHT will continue to collect baby bottles after Masses. If you were unable to return your baby bottle last week, or wish to donate in memory of a loved one, Birthright will send an acknowledgment card of your gift of life. Saving the life of an unborn child and the raising of children is a beautiful gift from God. Many thanks to the kind and good people of St Philip and St Jude. You efforts sustain our work to maintain a constant vigilance for the value of Life. God Bless Fr. Kennedy for your leadership and St. Philip & St. Jude for the born and preborn,

For love of mother and child,

Darlene Wagner Birthright

RELIGIOUS FREEDOM During the Fortnight for Freedom, it is imperative that we consider that the federal healthcare mandate violates religious freedom by: forcing religious insurers to write policies that violate their beliefs; forcing religious employers and schools to subsidize and facilitate coverage that violates their beliefs; and forcing conscientiously objecting employees and students to purchase coverage that violates their beliefs. To voice your opposition to the HHS mandate, contact: www.whitehouse.gov/contact or call: 202-456-1111; or write to: The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20500. Let the White House know the mandate violates the 1st Amendment, which guarantees religious freedom.

FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM PLANNED FOR JUNE 21 TO JULY 4 By: USCCB and Four County Catholic News Desk WASHINGTON — The second annual Fortnight for Freedom will take place from June 21 to July 4, and will address the challenges to religious liberty both at home and abroad. As with last year's Fortnight, the event will begin and end with a special Mass.

Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the USCCB Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty, will open the 2013 Fortnight for Freedom by celebrating Mass at Baltimore's historic Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, scheduled for June 21 at 7 p.m. EDT. Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington will celebrate the closing Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington on July 4 at 12 p.m. EDT.

This year's Fortnight occurs just weeks before August 1, when the administration's HHS mandate coercing us to violate our deeply-held beliefs will be enforced against most religious non-profits. During the Fortnight, the Supreme Court's decisions on the definition of marriage will likely be handed down as well. Those decisions could have a profound impact on religious freedom for generations to come. Bishop Cote reminds us that “It is through prayer, study, and peaceful public action during the Fortnight for Freedom, that we in the Diocese and across the Country will help preserve the fundamental right of religious freedom.” Bishop Cote asks that each day during the Fortnight, we pray the following Prayer for the Protection of Religious Liberty. “Prayer,” Bishop Cote stresses, “…is the most powerful tool we have among the many responses to the crisis we face. Let us pray that those who govern will trust and uphold the First Amendment.”

Prayer for the Protection of Religious Liberty O God our Creator, from your provident hand we have received our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. You have called us as your people and given us the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God, and your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit, you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society. We ask you to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind and heart to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard on behalf of the rights of your Church and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith. Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters gathered in your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with every trial withstood and every danger overcome— for the sake of our children, our grandchildren, and all who come after us— this great land will always be "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
