George Washington's Welcome to JudahRevisited Ralph Buntyn recently published an article under theheading of Historical Reflections on the United IsraelBlog. The article is entitled, George Washington'sWelcome to Judah Revisited. It recounts the contentsof a letter written by America's first President to theHebrew congregation in Newport Rhode Island, but isset against the broader backdrop of an example of thetriumph of the great American principle of ReligiousLiberty. Read the story here, the writing of which wasinspired after Ralph and Rebecca Buntyn first visited thefamous Touro Synagogue in 1997. Of this article, Ralph said, "The notion of religious liberty has been much in thenews in our present day. Unfortunately, the dark sidehas threatened the freedoms and intended liberty thathas been our right since our great nation was birthed. I just released an article regarding a little knownaffirmation of the great privilege of religious libertyextended by our first president to a little group of Jewishimmigrants in Rhode Island in 1790. Written from the standpoint of my own experience, Ithought I would share the moment in time. I hope youenjoy it."_________________________________________________

The Passing of a FriendUnited Israel World Union Minsters David and PattyTyler Co-officiated a funeral for Quantum Physicist Dr.Reinhard Erdmann who passed on June 9th, 2017. Dr.Erdmann was a great intellect in the world of QuantumPhysics particularly as it is applied to Quantum KeyDistribution (QKD), a way of encrypting data over opticallines. Secure transmissions in the future will no doubtbe impacted by his ideas. For his ideas, he has beenawarded two US Patents and a third is in process. Reinhard was born on October 26, 1946, to Max andLydia Erdmann, in Gustrow, Germany. When Reinhardwas young, his parents, with his brother, Rudy, andother family, traveled from Germany to settle aroundDetroit, MI, where his younger brother, Dennis, wasborn shortly thereafter. There, Reinhard attendedWayne Schools where he graduated first in his class. Hewent on to study in the Physics Department at theUniversity of Michigan, earning his BS there, followed byhis Masters in that field from Northeastern University inBoston, MA. Reinhard completed his doctorate inPhysics at the University of Rochester, in NY, althoughhe never spoke much of it, because he was the mosthumble and selfless spirit who never focused onhimself, but sought joy in helping others to flourish. After Reinhard moved to Cambridge, MA, he met hiswife, Pamela, fell in love and had three children whoselives Reinhard greatly enriched and influenced, including many of his children's friends, all of whomhave taken something special from his love forunprecedented adventure, his explorative mind, and hispassion for helping others. Reinhard lived by the old adage, "love what you do andyou'll never work a day in your life." He poured thatpassion into his life's work as a published QuantumPhysicist, choosing to continue his research as aPrincipal Scientist with Advanced AutomationCorporation (AAC) of Rome, NY, a company he enjoyedvery much, after he retired from twenty years as aDepartment of Defense senior staff physicist at theRome Laboratories at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome. On one of Reinhard's leisure days you could haveobserved him up at 6:00 a.m. helping a friend stack haybales into the barn, editing research papers (rangingfrom law to theology), trekking through the woodshunting with a friend or family, thrashing down somewhitewater in a kayak, or making rounds to drop offthoughtful gifts or necessities to those he cared about. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to theStem Project, a scholarship in Reinhard's name, toassist aspiring physicists and mathematicians.Email [email protected] for information. _________________________________________________
