TRANSCRIPT
This Sunday, we will have our first opportunity for in person worship since March 8th! We invite you to join us in the front parking lot at 6:30 p.m. for worship, Holy Communion, and physically distanced interaction with your church community. We will have our regular worship experience online and available at 8:00 a.m. We offer this outdoor worship as a chance to fellowship together, but in no way want to hinder your discipleship journey. As followers of Jesus Christ and the ways of John Wesley – we seek first to “Do No Harm.” We
feel this outdoor worship offers the least amount of risk in allowing the congregation to worship together. You will need to decide what risk is acceptable. We hope in time that these steps of safety will be unnecessary. Until that time – we seek to “do no harm” to any who may choose to attend. Here is what to expect when you arrive this weekend: When you pull up to Calvary’s entrance: A parking lot attendant will direct you where to park your car. When you get out of your car: 1. PUT ON YOUR MASK – if you do not have a mask, one will be available at the entrance points. 2. Gather your lawn chair(s) and water and proceed to one of two entrances:
• One entrance will be in the middle of the front parking lot, • the other by the Sanctuary.
PLEASE BE PATIENT AS YOU WAIT YOUR TURN TO ENTER THE ROPED OFF AREA AND REMEMBER TO STAY AT LEAST 6 FEET FROM OTHER FAMILY GROUPS.
When you get to the entrance: • You will be greeted by a Hospitality Team person and given a mask if you do not
have one. A mask is required for everyone over 2. (If you cannot wear a mask, you cannot enter.)
• The Hospitality Team will take your temperature and ask a few health questions. • The Hospitality Team will ask your name and write your name on a sticker. • Please put it in a visible spot on your shirt. (This way we know who has been
checked.) • You will be handed a small pre-packaged communion kit. Each person taking
communion will need their own package. • One of the Hospitality Team will direct you to a designated area to set up your chair(s). • We ask you to remain in your designated ‘bubble’ until each section is dismissed
from your area. Please greet one another from afar.
FAQs: What if I have young children?
For families with younger children, we encourage you to bring a blanket for the grassy area by the office doors. What if I want to stay in my car for worship? We are not currently set-up to allow for participation from your car. Please bring a lawn chair. What if it rains, is there a contingency plan?
In case of inclement weather, we will send an email notification to the congregation cancelling worship by 3:00 pm that day. There is no indoor contingency plan.
What if ‘nature’ calls?
We will have the doors to the narthex of the Sanctuary open for bathroom emergencies, but the rest of the church is not accessible at this time.
We are looking forward to welcoming you back to Calvary UMC! ~ See you Sunday, Pastor B.J.

Last week, the office sent out a message letting everyone know
that Rev. Libby Baxter’s Retirement Reception has been
postponed due to COVID-19.
We will not get the chance to formally celebrate Libby and her many years of
ministry at Calvary before she retires on July 1st. Just know that we will hold a farewell reception
in the fall when it is safe to do so. The membership will be invited to contribute to a fund and we will celebrate her ministry among us.
Libby has also agreed to preach on the Sunday we have her farewell reception.
Keep watching From Our Hill for future plans.
LIBBY’S RETIREMENT RECEPTION
Calvary Young Children’s School would like to thank Stephanie Dunn for her years of love, care and dedication to our program as she transitions into
her new position in the church.
Stephanie has served as the church staff liaison to the school, sat
on our YCS Board of Directors, and has led Chapel for our Pre-K children using a child-friendly program
to share Bible stories each week.
We wish Stephanie well and will always consider her a part of our YCS staff.
THANK YOU FROM YCS

During these months of
working from home, I have
truly missed our staff, our
congregation, and the
children from YCS coming
down the halls. I am
grateful that I have been
able to work from home,
and serve this church that I
have come to love so well,
but there are days when it has been really hard,
and my anxiety in all that has been happening
gets the better of me. But I have found
something that truly helps, and it has become
my go-to every day: The Daily Word of
Encouragement that our ministerial staff has
been providing. These daily emails have done
more than encourage me; they have lifted me
up, comforted me, helped me be mindful,
deepened my understanding, given me
goosebumps, made the tears flow, and blessed
me with peace in troubled times. I am truly in
awe of the beauty and wisdom that lies in the
hearts and minds of our pastoral staff and am
deeply grateful to work with them and have
them in my life. If you aren’t receiving these
daily devotionals — The Daily Word of
Encouragement — from our staff, you are
missing something wonderful, and I hope you’ll
sign up to receive them! You can sign up
here: https://www.calvaryumc.com/news. Peace
be with you.
~Love, Bernadette

POSTPONED FRIENDS OF ESTONIA GATHERING RESCHEDULED
This week’s #TuesdayToast is a biggie. Rev. Libby Baxter, we love you and are grateful for you!
Libby’s love for people and scripture has shaped each and every person at Calvary in deep and transforming ways. She taught us how to love God and love one another more fully
through her masterful way of contextualizing scripture in teaching, study, and worship. At the end of June, Libby will celebrate a significant milestone as she retires. We grieve that
she won’t be with us regularly and we celebrate that she’s an inseparable part of who we are.
Because we can’t say it enough, Libby, we love you and give God thanks for you and your ministry with us!
In between resting up and napping, we have been working on things that look like they needed attention. With the help of Tom Anderson with an assist from Jim Vaughter, we refinished the Chancel steps and painted the risers. This project lasted over a week, and I hope all will notice the improvement.
Peace, Dlo
WHILE YOU WERE OUT
Join Kris Lott and Alison Moore for a new Calvary Mental Health Podcast. In the
latest episode, they discuss how anxiety affects and breaks down our communication
skills. They discuss how anxiety takes us out of being present and creates confusion
and uncertainty as we try to communicate our thoughts and concerns, the importance
of listening, and what it means to be a compassionate communicator. We challenge
the listener to find ways to incorporate empathy and validation into their
communication skills.
Kris and Alison would love to hear your feedback and any ideas or themes for future episodes. Feedback can be
emailed to [email protected] or through comments on the Calvary Facebook page.

Are you interested in a new emerging ministry at Calvary? We’re looking for volunteers that would like to learn how to put our weekly worship services LIVE on the internet! You need to possess a willingness to use a computer and learn the basic vocabulary and equipment used in TV production. We’ll provide the training and practice opportunities for you
to become proficient. This opportunity is an excellent way to contribute to Calvary’s worship ministry while we’re not currently worshiping in-person.
Interested? Text or email Andy Morris – 615-479-4413; [email protected]
JUST A COUPLE MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Feeling mission deprived?
Want to help your neighbor?
Want to see some in-person Calvary faces from a distance?
We all know how the price of food has increased in the past couple of months.
Imagine if you had to survive on food stamps to make it to the end of the month.
On June 27th, the Holy Smokers will be hosting our annual June event for Urban Housing Solutions.
We are working with Calvary's Covid-19 taskforce as well as UHS to figure out how to best distribute
meals to the residents of Mercury Court. We will cook and serve the meals at UHS with social
distancing. We will not be setting up tables to eat on like we have done in the past.
We will also need homemade brownies or cookies in baggies!
Bring them to the CLC kitchen between 1 and 3 PM on Saturday.
Volunteers meet at Calvary at 3 PM on Saturday.
If you have any questions, please call Paul Cole at 615.478.1233.
