School is officially over and summer vacation is here, and now I can’t helpbut experience the summertime blues. Don’t feel bad for me though, thesummertime blues aren’t a bad thing, they’re fantastic! What I mean is I’m having a blast. I’m playing outside under the bright blue sky! I’m jumping in the clear blue water of the neighborhood pool! I’m eating some blueberries at a picnic in the park! I’m roller skating on the dark blue pavement of my cul-de-sac! These are what I like to call the “summertime blues” and I hope you’re experiencing them as well. If not, what are you waiting for? Get out there!

This month contains Best Friend Day, which is a day to simply appreciate your best friend. It’s a really great idea, but the problem is I don’t have just one best friend … I have ten! How could I choose ONE OrganWise Guy over the other? Each one of them is so important to me. Madame Muscle keeps me strong, Sir Rebrum keeps me thinking, and The Kidney Brothers are always making sure I’m drinking plenty of water. I also must mention the fun we all have together! So I’m writing them all letters to tell them that they are each my best friend and very special to me. It may seem like I’m being a softie by not choosing, but I just have too big of a heart. Oh, and he’s one of my ten best friends, too!

Hello hello,

Well, I had a bit of a brain freeze this weekend, in more ways than one. I was at a friend’s birthday pool party, and I had a piece of birthday cake. That should have been it for my sweets for the day. Then, just a few short minutes later, an ice cream truck stopped in the pool parking lot. Many of the other kids jumped at the chance for an extra dessert. I held steady, until my friend’s mom said she’d bought popsicles for everyone. Instead of politely declining, I decided to eat it, which was brain freeze number one. Brain freeze number two happened when I ate the popsicle way too fast! My head started to hurt really bad. Thankfully it was only temporary. You can bet that I will be saying, “No, thank you,” next time an ice cream truck passes by and I’ve already had enough sweets for the day!

The third Sunday of this month is Father’s Day, a day when we all tell our dads (or uncles or grandpas or whoever is important to us) how much we appreciate them. This year, I am going to make my dad a card and help out in the yard. It may not seem like much, but my dad loves doing yard work and he can always use an extra hand out there. Plus, we’ll get to spend some quality time together, so everyone wins! If you need a last minute idea, spending time with your dad is always a great gift.

Hey team,

I know we all look forward to summer as a break from school, but sometimes I kind of miss school. It’s fun to see your friends every day and without school as a place to see them, summer can almost get boring. I said “almost!” I’m very lucky that I have so many other kids in my neighborhood to play with all summer long! I don’t get to see a lot of these friends at school because some are older, younger, or they go to another school altogether! For me, summer means reconnecting with these friends, which is why things never actually get boring. Gotta run ... I’m off to a kickball game! It’s front of the neighborhood vs. back part of the neighborhood. Wish me luck!

This summer has been fun, but it sure has been hot outside! Even the pool water has been warm lately. So when I need a break from the sun, instead of sitting in front of the television, I go to the library. It has air conditioning, a vending machine full of healthy snacks, and more books than I could ever read! There is always a new mystery to be solved, a new adventure to be had, and a new skill to be learned. So ask your parents to take you to your local library so you can beat the heat with a good book!

I’m very excited to tell you that this week I joined Girl Scouts! I am now a Junior Girl Scout! While everyone loves to have a Girl Scout cookie from time to time, they are so much more than just cookies. Girl Scouts volunteer, improve the community, teach useful skills, and put on sports clinics, just to name a few things! Plus, we get cool green vests to wear to our meetings. I’m so excited for my next meeting and to start earning badges!

Well hello everyone,

I know the summer can often feel like not just a break from school, but a break from life and routines. Not having homework to do, playing outside and eating whatever you want … is what some people think summer is all about. But I’m here to tell you that you still need to eat your fruits and vegetables! Yes, I know it’ssummer, but nothing can keep you inside like a stomachache from being a little, um, backed up. Your body needs fiber to keep you healthy and fruits and veggies have lots of it. So be sure to grab an apple before you play for the day! Your body will thank you.
