ISSUE 19

Thelma Lysne, Editor

Greetings:

In Issue 18 December, 2018 January/February, 2019 I wrote my “Swan Song” as editor of “Your Foundation News”

for a second time. My husband Jack needed my full attention and care.

I’m sure many of you know Jack passed away on January 3, 2019. Jack was a dedicated Sons of Norway member

for 60 years. He served on the Foundation Board for 28 years. His legacy will live on in the Lysne Rosemalling Bursary.

This dedicated man will be missed by all who knew him.

I received a call from Tore Pettersen, President of the Foundation Board asking me if I would continue editing the

Foundation Newsletter. I will continue as editor for as long as my health permits.

I welcome any suggestions, ideas and questions from all Lodges.

I will continue to bring ideas on how you can Fund Raise for the Foundation and still have some fun in your

Lodge.

Thelma Lysne, Editor

SAVE YOUR STAMPS

It would not be an issue of the Foundation

Newsletter without a reminder to all Lodge members to

save your stamps.

Remember when you pick up stamps at the Post

Office to ask for the current Commemorative stamp

which are generally larger.

The stamps featured in this issue will be

available for distribution at the Post Office June 17,

2019. They feature Historical Covered Bridges in

Canada.

Highlighted are:

1. Hartland Covered Bridge, New Brunswick,

across the St. John River and is the longest

covered bridge in the world 391 metres.

2. Quebec’s Powerscourt Bridge was built in 1861

considered Canada’s oldest bridge.

3. Felix-Gabriel-Marchand Bridge, Quebec is the

provinces longest covered bridge at 152 metres.

4. West Montrose Bridge, spans the Grand River

north of Waterloo, Ontario.

5. Ashnola No. 1 Bridge situated over the

Similkeen River, is the last of its kind in B.C.

FUND RAISER – BOWLING

As promised I will feature “Fund Raiser” in

this Issue. I have expanded on this event although it

was not classified as a Fund Raiser.

Two Lodges take part in a Fun Bowl in

District No. 7, Zone 1, Vancouver Island, every April

and each year the Lodges alternate hosting. Three

games are bowled.

To turn this event into a Fund Raiser for the

Foundation, I have two suggestions.

1. Charge every bowler an extra $10.00 over the

cost of bowling and banquet (a banquet can be

eliminated).

2. Have a Piggy Bank and every time a bowler

throws a ball in the gutter he/she pays .50

cents, every time they get a strike spare or

head pin they pay .25 cents.

This Fund Raiser is more fun done with

two-three Lodges participating.

There might be a question of distance but

the Lodges taking part in this Fun Bowl were 10 from

Nordly’s No.20 Port Alberni, hosted by Eidsvold No.

53, Victoria.

International President Ron Stubbings and wife

Riitta attended from Varden No. 19

The distance from Port Alberni to

Victoria is 195 KM. – three (3) hour drive. Four (4)

attended from the Mainland and is approx. 124 km and

4 hours with a 1 ½ hour ferry ride.

Not only is it fun but you get some exercise

and fraternal socializing.
