The Children’s Activity Center (CAC) is a great asset for SVCC which allows your kids to enjoy a great atmosphere and numerous activities while you take advantage of what you want to do throughout the rest of the Club.

In order to make the CAC experience the best possible for all involved, your help and cooperation is expected.

cac remiNDers• Please allow enough time to sign

in all kids and inform us of any outstanding issues we should be aware of relative to your child.

• Please DO NOT bring in any sick children (if they have a fever or otherwise are ill, you will be contacted to pick them up).

• Make sure all kids in diapers are “changed” prior to entering and provide additional diapers in their bag.

• Leave “personal” toys or other such items at home.

• You MUST REMAIN on SVCC property (not in the development or elsewhere) to leave your child in the CAC.

• Absolutely NO outside snacks/food will be allowed inside the CAC. Many children have allergies to certain foods (most commonly peanuts). In an effort to minimize the problem, our snacks are limited to Cheerios and Goldfish and we do not allow any food items to be brought into the CAC.

• Sign In/Out: Please remember to sign in your child’s FIRST & LAST NAME as well as your SVCC location (fitness, tennis, golf, restaurant, etc.).

• If you DO NOT sign your child/children in, there will be an additional $5 charge added to your bill (daily and monthly included).

• Non-Member fees are $7.00 per child for the first two hours and $3.00 per child for each additional hour.

Please remember it’s your responsibility to pick up the children prior to closing time, NOT the SVCC staff. • Feeding Policies: CAC personnel will

only bottle/sippy cup feed infants and toddlers. No solid baby foods.

Please keep in mind the CAC is a service provided for our members. Those who choose not to follow the rules WON’T be allowed to use the service.

Taylor McKeen Shelton was the healthy 14 month old son of Dr. Wes and Ella Shelton. On the night of June 14, 2013, Taylor went to bed and without warning or reason, never woke up.

The Taylor McKeen Shelton Foundation was established in loving memory of Taylor with a goal of increasing awareness of, and research into the cause of Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood incidents by supporting the national SUDC foundation. In addition to supporting the SUDC foundation, goals of Taylor’s foundation include supporting families who are living through similar tragedies and helping to provide assistance to families & children in NWA.

Our first tournament was held on June 28th, 2014. It was an overwhelming success – together we raised over $75,000! We had a wonderful time celebrating Taylor’s life and raising awareness for Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood.

Our 2nd annual “Tee Off for Taylor” is being held on Saturday, June 6th, 2015, at Shadow Valley Country Club in Rogers. The golf tournament begins at 8:30am. The “Par-Tee for Taylor” evening event begins at 6:30pm – join us at the SVCC clubhouse for dinner, dancing, silent & live auctions and more!

Be sure to mark your calendar for the first blowout party of the summer at the pool. The band Red Ambition will be closing out the Member-Guest tournament with a live show that will be open to ALL SVCC members and your guests over the age of 21 (see back cover for more details)! It will be a fun event that is a great way to really kick off summer. There will be a full bar available and there is always a great turnout so come out and celebrate summer with your neighbors.

Bike Rack Brewery has been a big hit in The Overlook so I will be keeping it on tap for another month. I’m excited about the feedback I have been getting on yet another local brewery that produces such quality products. This month I am looking to expand our local selection with Ozark Beer Company. We will be trying as many varieties as we can to find one that you really enjoy. All these selections have all been made with your suggestions and feedback. I really enjoy hearing your thoughts good and bad regarding The Overlook so that we may continue to improve the services that we provide.

Swim season is officially here and I would like to remind everyone to take a look at the Swim Center’s policies and rules. These rules are for the safety of everyone at the pool and it is appreciated when everyone including children help out in abiding by them. This is sure to be another great summer and I look forward to seeing everyone out enjoying the sun.

We’ve upgraded our Router with the latest and greatest and added new Access Points and filled in some dead spots which enhances the overall network. As an added bonus, it’s allowed us to add a tablet that can be used on the Patio, Prestwick or even at the Swim Center. We are still working the kinks out, but feel this will help us serve you better in more locations.

What is FMS?I recently spent a week at the Cooper Institute in Dallas attending a FMS workshop. What is FMS? It stands for “Functional Movement Screen”. It is a series of 7 flexibility, stability and mobility tests, which identify functional limitations and asymmetries. It’s been around since 1998 and has been implemented by most professional and college athletic teams.

The FMS generates the Functional Movement Screen Score, which is used to target problems and track progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns.

Exercise professionals monitor the FMS score to track progress and to identify those exercises that will be most effective to restore proper movement and build strength in each individual. With testing results your fitness program becomes more personalized and effective.

Our first Mixed Troubles night was a smashing success! The mixed social match play, great food, beer from from MillerCoors (Miller Lite) and wine from The Wine Group (Cupcake Vineyards) creates an electric atmosphere. The series has one mixed social, a men’s social and a women’s social remaining and runs through July. Each event costs $25 per member / $30 per non-member. This year we are allowing members to invite guests to participate as well (must be accompanied by member). We hope this creates a different, fun and engaging atmosphere and I am personally very excited about it.

Colin Sylvester won the Boy’s Level 5 singles at the Coleman Creekmore Classic in Fort Smith, AR.

JuNior teNNis camp - summer 2015Our first camp of the summer will be June 15-18Th, 9-4pm every day for ages 4-15 years old. The camps are our most anticipated junior event of the year and they have consistently grown in attendance year to year with our best participation last year of 60 juniors in the June camp. Pricing for members is $125 for the first child, 2Nd sibling $100 and if there are three or more siblings $90/sibling. Non-members are $175 for one, $150 each for 2 siblings and $140 each for 3+ siblings. Campers will be divided into age groups first, then into groups based on ability. Our camp will utilize the USTA QuickStart format. In the age group for 4 to 8 years old, they will play on a 36’ court using the low compression balls geared for their age. In the age group for 9 to 10 years old, they will play on a 60’ court using low compression balls geared for their age. Finally, the age group 11 years old and up will play on a standard 78’ court with standard balls. After lunch will be more tennis but we also break into playing fun games, (dodge ball, kick ball, basketball), and have water balloon fights and pool activities. Saying that May has been a wet month would be a huge understatement. So far in May we have had 18 days that we have received over 1/10Th of an inch of rain. Fortunately, we have not had that huge rain event so the Osage Creek has stayed within its banks except for a little flooding around #16 green and #10 fairway. We’ve had an average daytime temperature of 82.4 degrees but only an average nighttime temperature of 57.7 degrees. I’m sure that once the rain stops our nighttime temperatures will increase and then the bermudagrass growth will really kick in.

I know areas on the GC have not looked up to our standards, but we have been trying to get as much mowed as we can when the weather has been dry enough to get our mowers out. Ethan has been out spraying poa annua and broadleaf weeds throughout the golf course. He has now started addressing the outbreak of yellow nutsedge which follows extended periods of wet weather. We will continue to address these problems until we have a weed free stand of turfgrass. I truly believe that some extended days of sunshine will help the course look and play better.

Our staff was able to repair some collars that were lagging behind along with #11 Blue tee box. We also made our first wave of sod repairs to the worse areas on the GC with both Zoysia & bermudagrass sod. Due to the circumstances, we’ve had to prioritize what raw materials we can aquire and realistically implement. We put together a list of items to address short and long term. The repairs to these areas will increase the visual and playable qualities of the golf course. Areas that we will be addressing in the short term are:

• Improving drainage, adding new sand and improving overall playability of the bunkers.• Sodding and repairing stressed or worn out areas on #9 hillsides, by #18 green and fairway, by the creek on #10, to the

This is only a sampling of the work list, but it will give you some idea as what type of projects that we will be addressing in the coming weeks. One area that I am happy with is the greens. When they have had a chance to firm up, golfers have said that they are true and are rolling well.

I hope that everyone will have an enjoyable summer of golf this year. We will continue to work hard at providing you with a course that you enjoy playing and are proud to show off to your friends and guests.

MAINTENANCE - It’s very important that your leased cart is well maintained. Therefore, if you are leasing a cart we REQUIRE that you bring your cart in for monthly service. We will check the battery water level, check the tire air pressure and clean the cart. Your cart should be ready for pick up within 24 hours.

DON’T BREAK YOUR LEASE AND LOSE YOUR CART!!!

You are in violation of your lease if you are:• Strapping kids in the bagwell. • Allowing anyone not in your household to drive the cart. • Stopping at a house during a round to get food or beverages.• Letting kids without a driver’s license (not a permit) drive the cart.• Driving anywhere on the course without first checking in at the Golf Shop PRIOR to playing (and yes that includes at night).

Personal Carts and Vehicles will NOT be allowed behind the Clubhouse or on any cart paths. Personal vehicles may only be driven on the ASPHALT portions of the Clubhouse parking lot and are to be parked in the designated cart parking spaces.

Help us protect the course. If you see someone acting suspiciously or witness anyone on the course not playing golf, please notify the Golf Shop or the Gatehouse to report such incidents.

We utilize multiple wireless cameras that will be used on the Golf Course. Property damage detected by these cameras will be used to prosecute the responsible individual(s) to the fullest extent of the law.

No one is allowed on the Golf Course (including cart paths) unless they have checked in with Golf Shop personnel. If the Golf Shop is closed, so is the Golf Course.

Any unauthorized activity on the Golf Course is not allowed and risks suspension of membership privileges.

Remember, Parents / Legal Guardians are responsible for Minor Children.

Please be sure to practice proper golf course etiquette while playing SVCC. Observing cart rules of the day, such as cart path only will help ensure that the course stays in great shape and continues to be a beautiful place to play! We’ve also had a few reports of broken windows during the past few months. Please notify the Golf Shop if you or your guest damage a home during your round.

We’d like to congratulate the SVCC Junior League team on a great start! Our team is currently undefeated, even after playing 2 away matches. We are very proud of our kids for playing so well and representing Shadow Valley with good sportsmanship and quality play!
