Junior American Legion Baseball Rules Differ from Senior Program

• Teams have the option to use a courtesy runner for the pitcher and/or catcher at any

time. The umpire-in-chief shall record courtesy runner participation and announce it to the official scorer. For speed-up purposes, it is recommended that the courtesy runner be used with two men out in all games.

o May not use the same runner for pitcher and catcher in the same inning. o Does not apply to the pinch hitter for the catcher unless the catcher has been re-

entered. o May not be removed from basis to pinch hit. o Player removed from the game may not be used as a courtesy runner. o A player who violates the courtesy runner rule is considered an illegal substitute.

• A hitter may be (not mandatory) designated for any one starting player (not just pitchers) and all subsequent substitutes for that player in the game.

o A starting defensive player cannot be listed as the DH. o Must be selected prior to the start of the game. o If a pinch hitter or pinch runner for the DH is used, that player becomes the new

DH. o A DH and the player for whom he is batting are locked into the batting order.

No multiple substitutions may be made that will alter the batting rotation. o DH is terminated for the remainder of the game when:

▪ The defensive player, or any previous defensive playr for whom the DH batted, subsequently bats, pinch-hits or pinch-runs for the DH

▪ The DH or any previous DH assumes a defensive position.

• No player may pitch more than a total of 105 pitches per day. He will be allowed to finish a batter if the limit is reached during an at-bat.

o The pitcher and the team manager shall be ejected from the game if a protest is filed with the umpire-in-chief before the last out of the game.

• No player may make more than two appearances as a pitcher during any consecutive three day period.

o Same penalty as the max pitch count.

• Any of the starting players may be withdrawn and re-enter once, including a player who was the DH, provided such player occupies the same batting position whenever he is in the lineup. A substitute who is withdrawn may NOT re-enter.
