• Class music teaching from ELC to Year 2 • Year level Choirs from ELC to Year 2 • Coordination of Music items and performances at the weekly Junior Primary

Assemblies • Attend and support Junior Primary Church Services twice per term • Liaison with the Director of Music, Deputy of Curriculum and the Director of the Early

Learning Centre in the preparation of various music performances during the year. • Undertake other duties as required by the Director of Music

Key Competencies Required

• Demonstrated experience in primary music education • Experience in Kodaly and Orff methodologies • Well-developed choral direction and vocal skills • Some basic piano playing skills • A demonstrated ability to enthuse, motivate and encourage students in their music

learning

Co-curricular Programme Your duties will, from time to time, include extra periods, playground duties, music events and performances and co-curricular activities such as Junior Primary Grandparent’s Day and Junior Primary Carols. Some of the duties will need to be performed at times outside of the normal classroom teaching hours. The details of your particular duties will be advised to you and any changes that are required from time to time will generally be discussed with you prior to their implementation. Community

As a member of staff associated with St Andrew’s School, the successful applicant will: • Attend school community functions and events. • Represent the School in a positive and professional manner.

Other Duties You are required, as part of your participation in the life of the School and the fulfilment of your professional responsibilities to the School and the pupils, to:

• participate in staff meetings (some of which may be in the evenings) on work days; • prepare in the last week of any school vacation period, for the commencement of the

School year or the succeeding school term. The number of such days will be advised to you no later than the first day of the preceding school term unless your contract commences mid-term in which case we will advise you as soon as possible before the required day. You may be required to work those days in one block or separately over the course of the year;

• comply with school policy, procedural policy, staff guidelines and reasonable directions of the Principal, the Deputy Principals or our delegate;

• during and after your employment, you must not disclose to any person any information about the School’s affairs, practices, secrets (including information marked ‘secret’ or which the School informs you is confidential or secret), dealings, finances and organisation, which you obtain in the course of your employment and which is not available to the public. During and after your employment, you must not use any information, which you obtain in the course of your employment in any way, which might cause loss to the School.

Performance Appraisal • The successful applicant will undergo a probationary period of six months during

which time the Deputy Principal: Learning and Teaching, Deputy Principal: Administration and the Principal will appraise his/her work.

• All teaching staff at the School participates in an ongoing PRPL appraisal cycle, and is assisted in this process by senior staff.

STRINGS SPECIALIST This is a guide only and is not intended to be an exhaustive or exclusive list of the duties of this position. Responsibilities are subject to review and modification by the Director of Music in response to the changing needs of the School. General Responsibilities

• To take full responsibility for the co-ordination, development and maintenance of the String Programme, Reception to Year 7.

• To liaise with Music Administration in regard to instrument hire/returns/repairs and ensure accurate and up to date records.

• To maintain all string instruments in good condition and repair as necessary. • To conduct the Senior String Orchestra, the Intermediate String Orchestra, the

Junior String Orchestra, and the Beginner String Orchestra. • To prepare String Orchestras for School Performances as per the School

Calendar in accordance with policy by the commencement of the school year and submit to the Director of Music and the Deputy Principal (Administration).

• To liaise with string specialists in regard to new enrolments, cancelations, instrument hire/maintenance and String Recitals (2 per year per specialists).

• To manage the Year 3 String Programme including accurate and up to date records of preferences and allocations.

• To coordinate the Year 3 Strings Programme Assembly performances (1 per term).

• To identify students from the Year 3 String Programme to continue with individual tuition with a view to participation in the School’s String Performance Programme.

• To take full responsibility for one String Concert per term. • Assist with School and Community performance events as per the School

Calendar and supervise students at performance venues. • Give individual instrumental string lessons to students enrolled in the Instrumental

Music Programme (up to 20 students including Year 3 Strings students). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES IN CONSULTATION WITH THE DIRECTOR OF MUSIC Administration • To liaise with the Director of Music on all matters related to areas of responsibility

including the development of the syllabus, performance groups, students, parents and music tutors.

• To manage the Year 3 String programme. • To run the Year 3 String Information Evening for Year 2 parents in Term 4. • To provide String demonstration for Year 2 classes. • To prepare the string music budget for the advancement of the programme in

consultation with the Director of Music. • To attend music meetings chaired by the Director of Music once per term. • To manage and co-ordinate the string tutors. • To purchase rosin, string bows, and supervise repairs. • To follow procedural policy for musical instrument hire. • To maintain St Andrew’s School and Musicorp string instruments and shoulder rests. • To advise on progression of students through String Orchestra structures. • To prepare a written report to the Director of Music once per term. Curriculum • To teach the Year 3 String Programme. • To liaise with the Director of Music in the writing and reviewing of the Year 3 String

Programme. Teaching Responsibilities • To conduct the Senior String Orchestra, Intermediate String Orchestra, Junior String

Orchestra and Beginner String Ensemble. • To teach the Year 3 String programme. • To teach a string instrument to students enrolled in the Instrumental Music Programme

(up to 20 students including Year 3 Strings students). Performance Opportunities • To ensure that the string orchestras and ensembles perform twice per year. • To ensure that the Year 3 String Programme students perform once per term. Appraisal • Performance will be appraised by the Director of Music in consultation with the Deputy

in accordance with the duty statement. OTHER DUTIES • As directed and in consultation with the Director of Music.
