analyze the elements which make up both the textile and natural examples. explore how the two-dimensional elements of each pattern may be projected into three dimensions. construct a three-dimensional model based upon the analysis

to construct a model of a portion of the upper floors of the existing (but currently abandoned) Occidental Chemical Building located in Niagara Falls. The model should be limited to two upper stories of the building, two structural bays and be limited to 10 (to scale) in depth.

the wall will replace the existing double envelope screen wall. the com-pleted project should consider issues such as air movement; light, shade and shadow; and the mediation of views from both the interior and exterior

the design of a market/office building on a site located in the strip district in pittsburgh, pa. the site is bounded by penn ave, to the south, mulberry way to the north and 22nd street to the west. for the purpose of this project, we will assume that the one story brick and block building on the site will be demolished to make way for the new construction. a market/office building has been chosen as the building program to allow for focus on further development of the exterior envelope and structure, while addressing issues related to egress.

urban eyes incorporates the ideas derived from the textile and natural pattern study, as well as expanding on the ideas of the wall. an abstraction of these forces forms views, space, and social interactive places that are key elements of the design.

to form the market-office building I narrowed down key entrance points to the site based on our site analysis. I create entrances to the market, the office, and a loading area. from there I started with a mass and used these entrance points to carve into the office, then the market. finally the facade wraps around.

the market-office is struc-tured by load bearing walls, columns, i-beams, trusses, and mainly through the egress and elevator cores

the facade is structured through steel rods that run through each member; they connect to the roof truss. there are several members that brace onto the concrete

for a nicer finish the facades members have glass mullions inset within them. this allows for the mullions to not be seen from the outside. the glass and the alluminum members meet at a 90
