JUPITER
By Matt, Justin, And Marcelono
AtmosphereJupiter is composed primarily of gas. As a result, Jupiter lacks a surface in the sense that the rocky, inner planets do. Jupiter's atmosphere is composed of 90% hydrogen and 10% helium. This composition is very close to that of the Sun's composition, bolstering the belief by scientists that Jupiter could have been a star if it had been more massive.
Size and mass Jupiter is easily the largest planet in our
solar system. Jupiter is 318 times the size of Earth.
To get another picture in your head, if Jupiter was 80 times larger nuclear fusion would of happened in its core making it a star not a planet.
Jupiter’s orbit Jupiter is the 5th planet from the sun.
Jupiter’s distance from the sun is 5 times the distance of Earth to the sun. Jupiter’s completes a full rotation every 10 hours which is the fastest rotation in our solar system.
Jupiter’s interior Jupiter’s atmosphere is mostly hydrogen
and helium [which we covered earlier] which are the main gases in the sun which is another reason scientists call Jupiter a failed sun. The giant red spot on Jupiter has been going for over 300 years but hasn’t been discovered until 2006.
