(at least two of them) have been rebuilt; even the casting harks back to Spielberg’s original: there are two moppets in peril in the dark depths of the park, and Chris Pratt’s Owen – practically a hybrid creation himself, part Sam Neill’s palaeontologist and another part Jeff Goldblum’s rock-star scientist – must find them and get them home. Lest we miss what the writers are up to, one character

In the years since the events of ‘Jurassic Park’ a new theme park has been built. It’s bigger, better, and apparently safer. But those attending aren’t interested in how many days it’s been since the park’s last accident; they’re there to see the latest attraction. What they’re after is something bigger, badder, and with more teeth – a desire that doesn’t pair all that well with safety concerns. Claire (played by Bryce Dallas Howard, channelling a blend of Nicole Kidman and Kathleen Turner) is tasked with running the park and keeping the attendance high. Balancing out her cold and distant managing style is Owen (Chris Pratt, continuing to take over Hollywood using sheer likeability), a rugged trainer with the even more difficult task of bringing a pack of raptors to heal.

The park is everything John Hammond (the tycoon behind the flawed first park) could have hoped for, but humans can’t stop meddling – that is what we do, after all - and when a new dinosaur, a hybrid designed by scientists, is added to the menagerie, things soon go awry…

Universal have spent many years trying to work out how to reinvigorate their franchise. Numerous writers and directors have come and gone, but none have found an adequate “in”. Enter Colin Trevorrow. He and his team of scriptwriters have created a film driven by nostalgia. Everything about it nods towards the original: the score by Michael Giacchino evokes the grandeur of John Wiliams’s; the cinematography often duplicates shots from the first film; the locations

even wears a T-shirt with the logo of the original park (/film), and directly references how great that park (by which he means “film”) was, much as things might have gone imperfectly for its human denizens.

Although ‘Jurassic World’ can at times seem a little too in thrall to Spielberg’s first film, the real underlying DNA is that of a slightly older film: ‘Romancing the Stone’. The elegant and refined woman who falls for the rugged and worldly man is a pairing that has been around almost since the birth of cinema, but it’s the incarnation seen in ‘Romancing the Stone’, which both lampooned and embraced the convention, that Trevorrow and co. borrow from. Pratt and Howard bicker and argue, just as Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner once did, and it works remarkably well within the confines of Universal’s franchise.

Many who read this will already be intrigued by the idea of a new ‘Jurassic Park’ film, but for those not quite sold on the idea, think of it this way: it’s like ‘Romancing the Stone’, only with dinosaurs. If that doesn’t intrigue you, nothing will.

‘Marvel’s Ant-Man’ is part-way a comedy, most of the way a heist movie, and the rest of the way an action movie. This blending of genres is Marvel’s elegant way of evading superhero over saturation, and it works surprisingly well.

The story opens with our would-be hero, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd finally getting his chance as the rugged leading man most of us knew he could be), being released from prison – an unexpected place to meet a man who will be tasked with saving the world. Scott tries to stick to the straight and narrow, but as all heist movies tell us, there’s always “one last job”. Of course, things aren’t quite as they seem, and

Scott finds himself at the whims of an eccentric biochemist with a unique suit, one capable of shrinking its wearer in scale while increasing their strength. And so the table is set for something a little bit different.

If the writing doesn’t amuse you (although it ought to), and the plot machinations don’t intrigue you (although they should), then one thing you’ll certainly marvel at is its scale – albeit not in the way you’re currently thinking. When Scott first puts on the suit he shrinks down to the size of a pin and finds himself surrounded by the immense, vertiginous sides of his bath. He then careens through his apartment building, skidding through pipes, under

floorboards and across a dancefloor on which heels come perilously close to annihilating him. It’s a sequence unlike anything Marvel have done before; it’s inventive, thrilling and, most of all, fun – and as good a description of the film as any.

The film even finds a playful workaround for Marvel’s usual third-act peril, which of late has consisted of something vast and fiery – and indicative of impending doom – slowly falling on (or firing upon) a city. This time round it’s a suitcase that falls to earth, with our hero inside it. Marvel are nothing if not self-aware.

Sometimes it’s the most unlikely premise that makes for the best comedy show, and ‘Parks and Recreation’, which is set in a humdrum government office, is a prime example. This one-of-a-kind mockumentary revolves around the City of Pawnee’s Parks and Recreation department, and features a host of unexpected characters on a succession of absurd yet believable escapades.

Headed (in theory) by the straight-talking, anti-government libertarian Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman), the department’s real star is the effervescent and relentlessly hard-working Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler). Alongside an assortment of memorable co-workers and friends –

all misfits in their own right – Leslie’s aim is to make Pawnee a better city for all who live there, despite Ron’s quiet attempts to the contrary.

On its release in 2009, early comparisons to ‘The Office’ were justifiable – Leslie’s character owes much to the infamous Michael Scott, and its mockumentary style is perhaps most famously exemplified in the much-loved show – but ‘Parks and Rec’ (as it’s known to its fans) has since come into its own. While ‘The Office’ was often cruel in its comedy (don’t get me wrong – it was still hilarious), ‘Parks and Rec’ has a warmer, more gentle feel, and the highly dysfunctional characters are all charming in their own right. Whether

it’s the locals’ obsession with Pawnee’s resident miniature horse, Li’l Sebastian, or the offensive historical murals which adorn the walls of the government offices, Parks and Rec has a lovely way of making the unlikely seem completely plausible.

As the show has progressed, we’ve seen the lives of Leslie and co. move on, and by season 6 (which is showing onboard today!), things have changed at the parks department. Gone are the days of small-office politics: Leslie has an opportunity for re-election at the city council, resident entrepreneur Tom comes up with another grand scheme, and old favourites Ann and Chris have some news... One of the hardest things to achieve as an entertainer – be it as an actor, singer or even sports star – is the art of making your craft appear easy. Having your work appear effortless, not reflecting the reality of the struggle, can be key in achieving recognition and commercial success. This means carrying off the performance seamlessly and flawlessly, yet also with an air of grace and class. It’s hard to say which field benefits the most from this projection of cool calm, but one can certainly point to a special few who do it better than most, and one of those is R ’n’ B singer Erykah Badu. She’s able to lay hypnotic vocals

over kicked-back beats that would compliment any environment, and she makes it look easy.

A soulful sound over smooth grooves put together within a collection of styles – echoes of rhythm and blues combined with essences of jazz

and a touch of hip hop – results in a concoction that you won’t be able to help but embrace.

Modern-day R ‘n’ B isn’t to everyone’s taste, and as such we’ve seen the rise of numerous sub-genres that take elements from the parent genre. Badu, however, seems to take things back to the beginning. You won’t hear electronic beats or fast-paced wordsmith-worthy freestyle poetry from her; instead you’ll find back-to-basics music, performed eloquently and, seemingly, effortlessly.

HEADSET ATTACHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT

SERVICES CONTROL UNIT OPERATION

• Located on the inside of the seat you will find the audio

jack and entertainment system control unit.

• Insert the plug end of twin male connectors into the

audio jack . The male plug connector pins are sized to

fit into the audio jack in one way.

• For AUDIO-ONLY entertainment, push the mode button

that displays a symbol.

• For MOVIE VIDEO entertainment, push the mode button

that displays a symbol.

• To change CHANNELS or headset VOLUME level,

press either the up or down arrow buttons next to the

choices.

• A channel number will be displayed in the small window

of the control unit, showing your selection in either audio

or movie video modes.

PERSONAL TV SERVICE SCREEN AND AUDIO:

RAISING THE PERSONAL MONITOR SCREEN

• Lift the centre arm rest cover to expose the 8.4”

personal monitor.

• Pull up the top corner of the personal monitor, raising

it to full extension.

• Turn the monitor mounting arm and adjust it to a

comfortable viewing angle.

• Control buttons on the monitor can be used for the

following:

Adjust screen brightness to decrease.

Adjust screen brightness to increase.

The centre button should not be used.

• The personal seat monitor should be kept stowed for

taxi, take-off and landing.
