We have entered into the month of mithuna of the year Jaya. We have seen earlier that
Jupiter has entered into its exalted position in cancer. The Sun this month is in the sign of
mercury, Gemini. Gemini or mithuna is a special sign – it is ruled by mercury and therefore
shows diplomacy, intelligence etc. but at the same time it is a sign that shows duality. It is
young twins that are denoted by the sign of Gemini – this means that Gemini is a sign of
dual-personality. Mostly we see people born of the stars in Gemini or with Lagna as Gemini
will have dual-personality – they will be like one person at one time and like another person
at another time. In other words, such people cannot be fully depended upon.
But of course spirituality changes everything and therefore if there is spirituality denoted by
planets or combination of planets in the horoscope then the person ceases to have dual-
personality and will be well established in spirituality itself.
As Sankara says, time plays and we undergo aging; during such time it is important to
remember the ultimate goal of life of moksha. As long as this goal of moksha isn’t achieved
we will ever be discontent, dissatisfied and sorrowful. This will not be the case for this one
birth but for many births to come as well. Births and deaths will go on endlessly until one
realizes the ultimate goal of life of moksha.
But many wonder as to whether moksha is there in their horoscope – and if moksha isn’t
there, then there is no possibility of attaining moksha and therefore any effort towards
moksha also will be futile. But such arguments are futile and unworthy. Astrology only tells
us as to what is in store for us at this particular time – fate or destiny is shown by astrology
but it isn’t set by astrology. Fate or destiny can be changed by our freewill – depending on
our current actions, our future will change and therefore we cannot clearly say that this is
what will exactly happen. This doesn’t mean that there is no use of the science of astrology
or that it is a lie – majority of people don’t even know that they can use freewill to change
their fate and others who strive to change their fate aren’t able to change it. Therefore it is
only some bold or courageous people who are able to change their future through freewill.
But just thinking that astrology just sets the future is wrong – astrology should be used as a
means of knowing our future. When we know our future we will be expecting whatever is to
Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Jaya)

be expected and therefore those can be changed if we want it to be changed. Knowing that
there is a hole in the front will make us walk carefully but it doesn’t mean that we will fall
into the hole. We will fall into the hole if we aren’t careful – similarly if we aren’t careful
about what astrology tells about us, we will fall a prey to sorrowful life.
A wise person therefore will strive to know what is in store for him and then will try to
change it to whatever he wants it to be – he will ultimately strive for the goal of moksha
and for this he will use the science of astrology as much as possible. Therefore through this
science he will be able to progress quickly towards the goal of moksha.
A true astrologer is one who studies this science in order to know the future and help
himself and others progress towards the ultimate goal of life of moksha. The purpose of this
magazine is to help sadhakas learn the science of astrology so that they will be able to help
themselves and others progress towards the goal of moksha.
May we all strive to learn and implement this science of astrology so that through knowing
and anticipating our future we will be able to progress quickly towards the goal of moksha –
and through attaining moksha we will be able to ever rejoice in bliss here and now itself.

Recap
Previously we saw that in order to become a true astrologer a person should follow seven
practices. The seven practices are japa (chanting), ahara (food), vaak (words), ishacintana
(remembrance of Ishwara), dhyaana (meditation), shaastraadhyayana (learning of the
shaastras) and samatva darshana (vision of oneness).
We saw the first practice of japa and the second practice of aahara or food. Without proper
food, our mind will not be controlled and as long as mind is not under control we will not be
able to think clearly. Astrology is a science that requires logic (the logic that is required in
astrology is much tougher than logic we find in mathematics – if only science-fans would
take a look into astrology they will realize this very easily). Logic is only proper when the
mind is clear (beyond all doubts and devoid of any fluctuations and preferences). Thus it is
important to eat saatvika food – saatvika food is food that involves proper salt, sourness
etc. And the sign of saattvik food is that the mind will be calm (not tensed). Generally when
we talk about mind being pure it is nothing but a clear mind or a mind which is devoid of so
many thoughts in it. The more clear or pure the mind is, the lesser thoughts will be there
(and lesser the mind will jump from one thought to another).
Astrology is a science in which predictions are made by the astrologer. Though rarely the
astrologer will write down predictions, most of the time he would be making predictions
through words. And therefore words or proper words is required for an astrologer and
therefore the author says that this is the third practice – vaak or proper words that gives
word-power or saraswati in one’s tongue.
zuÉihtimtvcnain t&tIy>,14, çubhahitamitavacanäni tåtéyaù|14|
14. Third is pure, good for others and less words.
A sadhaka should always remember that words are very powerful and whatever is powerful
has to be used with care. Firstly such powerful thing should be used only for the welfare of
Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Jaya)

6
the world. It is very easy to destroy things but it is very tough to build things. Therefore our
focus should always be on building things and not destroying things.
Words have the power to destroy things and even people. One harsh word is enough to
shatter the mind of another person and thereby it might even lead him to commit suicide.
Therefore words should be for the welfare of others.
Sweet words and words which are for the welfare of others have to go hand in hand. Such
words are called hitam. Mere sweet words though might attract others will not really be
helpful for them (or helping them in anyway). Therefore words have to be good for others.
Even that which is good for others can be mentioned in a nice or sweet way or a harsh way.
Those words which are for the good of others as well as sweet should be used by sadhakas.
This would create good vibration around the astrologer and it would also develop faith for
the astrologer (and the science of astrology).
Lastly words can be uttered in plenty and it can be uttered very less. The author says that
we should use less words. Here this doesn’t mean being silent (or the opposite of being
talkative) – but it just means that we should use words as much as they are needed –
neither more nor less. More words or less words will harm a person in the long run (it will
also delude the listener as well – he will grasp things properly if just enough words are used
and if too much words are used, then he will be distracted and will not get the gist or
essence of things). Therefore words have to be used in proper amount.
To sum it up, words have to be sweet, good for others and bare minimum (or as much as
required). Only such words will have its effect on the listener as well as will be beneficial to
the astrologer in the long run.
The author says about the effect of using such good and proper words.
ttae vaGzuiÏ> isiÏí,15, tato vägçuddhiù siddhiçca|15|
15. From it one gets purity and power of words.

7
If words are used properly then it will lead to purity of words. This means that unknowingly
and naturally always good and proper words alone will be used by the astrologer. Since
astrology is all about what the astrologer conveys to the listener therefore it is important
that he gets purity of words.
Along with purity of words, an astrologer will be able to get word-power as a result of using
proper words. When saraswati is on one’s tongue, then the astrologer is said to possess the
power of intuition. Intuition is that which cannot be explained in words or logic but which
helps a person to predict or say things naturally (without using the mind). This is only
possible if there is word-power and such word-power goes a long way for an astrologer to
become a true astrologer (thereby helping himself and others in the science of astrology for
the ultimate benefit of the goal of moksha).
Those who desire to become true astrologers should therefore practice sweet, good and just
enough words so that they will be able to get word-power and intuition – thereby they will
be able to use the science of astrology to the best for the entire world.
May we all strive to become true astrologers through usage of proper words so that we will
be able to help ourselves and others progress in the spiritual path towards the ultimate goal
of life of moksha.

Bhavartha Ratnakara - IV
Dr B.V Raman was a famous astrologer worldwide. He was an author of many books. His
books helped the beginners of astrologer to understand the subtle aspects and in more
detail as well. One of his famous books Bhavartha Ratnakara which we have been discussing
since some months, gives detailed significations of the each house. We have seen three
chapters of the text till now. We shall continue on the next chapter of the same text. The
fourth chapter of the text details with the fourth house. It talks about fortunes, luxuries and
children. Following are the extractions from the text.
1. If the lords of 4th and 9th combine in the lagna, the native will lead a very luxurious
life.
2. Happiness is surely indicated when Jupiter is in or aspects the 4th house, or if Jupiter
and the 4th lord combine in a quadrant or trine.
3. Presence of the 4th lord and Venus in 4th will indicate a person of ordinary
conveyances.
4. If Mercury and Venus are in Libra for a Cancer ascendant native, luxuries come by in
Mercury dasa Venus bhukti.
5. If Jupiter in the 4th, the person gets to own horses. If Venus is in the 7th, he
becomes sensual.
6. Saturn in the 4th confers foreign residence, in dilapidated houses. It’ll also make the
native hard-hearted.
7. Powerful luxury yogas are generated when there is a parivartana between the lords
of either the 4th and 9th, 4th and 11th, 1st and 4th, 4th and 5th, 5th and 9th or 5th
and 11th. Similar results can be seen if either the 4th and 5th lords or 1st and 9th
lords are in their respective houses.
8. A luxury yoga is also generated when the 5th and 9th lords are in 9th and 10th
respectively.
9. If Jupiter and 5th lords are in association, childbirths can be predicted.
10. If Jupiter, 5th lord and lagna lords are all disposed in quadrants and trines, the
native enjoys happiness from children.
Let’s Analyse few charts to understand the rules mentioned above.

Chart 1
Analysis:
Jupiter the karaka for happiness is in the 4th house.4th lord for this chart is mercury and is in
the 4th house. We see that the 4th lord and mercury are in a Kendra. This combination
always keeps a person happy. Due to the sun and Saturn conflicts in the 4th house, there
shall be some conflicts within the heart, which might bring about sorrow to the native.
From moon the 4th house is not aspected by any planet. 4th lord mars which is not a benefic
is in the 12th house and is debilitated.
So there are both mixed bag of happiness and sadness for this native.

Chart 2
Analysis:
Jupiter is the 4th house of comforts. The 4th lord mercury is the 8th house. This is not a good
location for 4th lord. The person has luxury cars and is very rich. He earns and travels far
and wide.
9th lord Saturn is in the 10th house. The 5th lord venus is in the 9th house. This gave him lot
of luxury. He travels to conferences in flights in india and abroad and also has all luxuries
wherever he goes.
The 5th lord venus is in trine i.e in 9th house. Jupiter the karaka for children is in Kendra.
The lagna lord is not well placed and is in the 8th house.
The native has children, who are doing good.

Chart 3
Analysis:
Venus the 4th lord is at 0 deg. Saturn which is the 7th and 8th lord I exalted and is in the 4th
house. The person resides in foreign countries. Native has plans to settle there. He lives all
by himself.
Mars aspects the 4th house. Saturn is n the 4th house. This also shows that he shall stay in
dilapidated houses.
Saturn is exalted and 4th lord is venus, the person is soft by nature.
9th lord Jupiter aspects lagna and the 10th lord mars.
Thus we have seen the significations of the 4th house in matters of vehicles, houses and
luxury and the various yoga’s to have children and wealth. We shall continue on the next
chapter in the next edition of the magazine.

Ganitha - I
Jyothisha is one of veda angas as we all know. It is part of Vedas and one of the limbs of
Vedas. Hence this is an ancient science and is also called the Eye of Vedas as it gives
deeper insight into life.
There are three skandas or six limbs of astrology or Jyothisha. The six limbs are Gola,
prashna, Muhurtha, Ganitha, Nimitta and Jataka. The above can be grouped into three
skandas as 1) Ganita : combining both gola and Ganitha 2) Hora: Prashna, Jataka ,
Muhurtha and part of Nimitta 3) Samhita : Consists of Gola sastra aspects of mundane
astrology.
Gola means astromony or the planets and its motions and measurements. Prashna deals
with prediction of events based on current planetary positions. Muhurtha determines the
right times for performing various actions in life. Nimitta deals with omens. Ganitha deals
with all mathematical calculations dealing with astrology. The last one Jataka, which is well
known to all is based on horoscope determined at the time of birth.
In various editions of magazine we have discussed many aspects like Muhurtha, Prashna,
Jataka to some degree till now. We haven’t touched upon nimitta and Gola. We shall see
ganitha which deals with part of gola or astromony along with mathematical calculations or
ganitha in the following series on ganitha in magazine.
Ganitha involves lot of calculations, which forms the basis for Jataka. Jataka or horoscope
predictions can be done only when the chart and all details are ready. To prepare the chart
or the horoscope of a native, the lagna, rasi, planetary positions etc needs to calculated and
plotted. All this falls under ganitha. In order to plot a chart, we need to have an
understanding of solar system, behaviour of planets, terminology used in ganitha sastra
along with the phenomenon’s that happen with moon, sun and other planets.
Panchanga helps us to determine the positions of moon, sun and planets at any given time.
Panchanga is written every year to help all to know the planetary positions and shapes in
various periods of time. This is based on our ancient knowledge of movements of earth and
sun. This has being dealt as a different topic in the magazine. Interested students can look

into it. Determination of days, months, tithi based on the motions of sun and moon is basis
of panchanga. It has lot of calculations involved.
We shall focus on that part of ganitha which deals with determining the sun rise and sun
set, determination of lagna etc. To have a basic knowledge of planetary world and ganitha is
very essential for an astrologer to be able to plot the chart before doing predictions. This
also helps us to visualize and appreciate the various terms in astrology.
Before we get started on ganitha, we need to understand certain terminologies and have
basic knowledge of movement of earth and the sun and measurement parameters. Sun,
moon and earth motions are very important here. Jataka and ganitha are sister sciences
and are interconnected.
Some of the ancient texts which deals with the subject of astromony or ganitha in much
details are surya siddhanta, pancha siddantika etc.
Earth rotates around the sun and is tilted at an angle of 23.5 degrees at rotation. So the
axis is not the imaginary line joining the north and south pole. The axis of rotation makes
an angle of 23.5 degrees to the line joining north and south celestial pole.
Earth rotates around the sun in an ecliptic path. This called the Ravimarga in Sanskrit.
When viewed from the earth, it looks like the path traversed by the sun around the earth.
This ecliptic is divided into 12 equal houses. This ecliptic is marked by 27 constellations or
stars. But these stars are located very very far from the earth. Sun and moon are nearer to
earth than these stars. When the sun or moon pass these constellations as seen from earth,
days, months and years are calculated. The position of sun, moon and planets against these
stars from the basis of astrology.
Astronomical Terminology
The axis of the earth is that diameter about which the earth rotates from west to east in
uniform motion.
Poles of earth are the points where this axis meets its surface and they are the north and
south poles.

Earth’s Equator is the imaginary line running around the earth half way between the poles.
It divides earth into northern and southern hemisphere.

15
The latitude of a place is its distance north or south of the equator measured at an angle on
its own terrestrial meridian.
Terrestrial meridian is the imaginary line passing through the north and south poles.
Longitude of the place is its distance east or west of the meridian or greenwich measured at
an angle.
Celestial Equator is a great circle of the celestial sphere Marked out by the indefinite
extension of the plane of terrestrial equator.
Celestial latitude is the angular distance of a heavenly body from the ecliptic.

The angular distance of a heavenly body from the celestial equator is called declination. It is
positive or negative according as the celestial object is situated in the northern or southern
hemisphere.

Greenwich mean time or G.M.T is considered as the standard time across the globe and
local time at any place is calculated based on the G.M.T. Every degree corresponds to 4
minutes as 24 hours corresponds to one rotation of 360 degrees of earth around itself.
Seasons are formed due to tilt of the earth axis, due to which equal number of rays of sun
are not received on earth throughout the year. The ecliptic orbit of the earth around the sun
also causes the differences of temperatures, leading to seasons.
Equinoxes are points along the ecliptic path of the earth around the sun, when the sun rays
fall equally on the earth.
Precession of equinoxes: BY the time the earth completes one rotation round the sun and
reaches the aries sign, the earth with respect to a fixed star would have moved 501/3 mins
of space west from the place it was earlier. So the entire zodiac is set to westward motion.
This slight increment or retrograde motion of equinoxes is known as precession of
equinoxes. This is due to movement of the sun along a curved path. The earth and entire
solar system is arranged with sun as center and the sun itself moves in a curved path.

The celestial equator and ecliptic intersect each other at two points, at twice a year the sun
crosses the equator. On these two days the duration of day and night will be equal all the
world over. These two points are known as equinotical points or vernal equinox march 21st
and autumnal equinox 23rd sept.
We shall continue on the topic basics of astronomy in the coming editions of the magazine.

Nakshatras - VI
We have seen till the 15th star i.e chodi or swathi, until last edition of magazine. We shall
now continue from the 16th star of Visakha.
Vishakha/Visaakam
This star is considered as Lord Subramanya’s birth star. The lord’s other name was
therefore vishakha vijaya.
It belongs to the kula star category. It belongs to rakshasa gana. Tiger is the animal symbol
for this star and weakest part of the body is stomach. It is masculine in gender.
The anujanma of this star is Punarvasu or punartham, as Jupiter is the ruling planet of this
star.
It consists of cluster of five stars appearing like a potter wheel. The deities are indra and
agni. Rough, harsh, stern or Ugra is its nature. Its mark is the letter “U”.
General Characteristics
As the lord is Jupiter they are generally show authority and power. They are proud and it’s
difficult to convince them. They are good towards the wise men and pandits. They are long
lived and philanthropic in nature.
They will do everything with care. They will help others and relatives. They will take delight
in the company of friends. Whatever they speak will have good content clarity and beauty.
They will not be very mindful of their physical needs, hence they will frequently fall ill. They
have to eat delicious things even if it does not suit their health. They will behave very
closely with women and they will charm them with sweet words and affable manners.
Three padas of visakha are in thula and one pada in scorpio, thus spreading across two
houses.

They are religious, helpful, Roaming around, will have good body. Selective about food, eat
rich food, they will have government jobs, they socialize well, they are generally adamant,
power seeking, egoistic but devoted to partners.
The planets to be considered are venus and Jupiter apart from pada lord.
1st pada: This is ruled by mars, it’s in libra. They will get into love affairs. They will be
adamant. They will be happy, rich and broad chested. Native will be courageous.
2nd pada: The ruler is venus. The native will lead a prosperous and peaceful life. He will not
be effected by any anxiety or worry. He will get wealth by legal and right means. He will
show mercy and be kind to others. He will have a lovely wife and spend a good married life.
He will have quiet joyful life and some ear problem. They will be more passionate.
3rd pada: The ruler is mercury. The native will be expert in mathematics. Talks sweetly and
charms others. They are generous clever and intelligent. He will get many titles and degrees
in his studies. They will be clever and passionate.
4th pada: The ruler is moon. It falls in scorpio. Sudden change of mind, sudden decisions,
moody, they get angry quickly. Native will be anxious to amass wealth and equally good at
spending. He will be very loving towards his wife. After middle age he will suffer from
stomach problem. He will look after his relatives. They can be spiritually oriented. They
can surprise near and dear with their decisions.
It’s good to learn fine arts in this star. As per our sastras, there are some stars beneficial to
carry our good work.
It’s said that this star is very good for commencing training in dancing and sculpture.
It’s said that it’s good to repair vehicles or build vehicles under this star,
There will be success in any work undertaken, inspite of obstacles and oppositions.
If girls mature in this star there is no need for "shaanti" ceremony. They will be blessed with
good children.
It is a good star for buying cattle, agricultural work, for sowing seeds and digging wells.
The letters signifying each pada are "dhee" "thu", "the" and "tho" respectively.
Jupiter dasa lasting for 16 yrs pertains to this star

21
This star in a cluster of five like a potter’s wheel can be seen in the month of June after
midnight.
The star of vishakha is one of the special stars in that traits of this star can be easily found
out - it wouldn't be wrong to say that people born of this star can be easily tracked.
Though there are two rasis for this star (and significant differences are there) still general
characteristics remains the same - they are proud, strong, a bit arrogant and egoistic, will
not fluctuate from their stand, logicians and can attract people with their words, way of
talking or behaving etc. Even though they may not be beautiful in appearance, still they
attract people very easily.
Since jupiter is the starting dasha so they are generally well learnt (in almost all sciences) -
even if not learnt, they will easily be able to grasp any science (on their own itself). Very
smart and tough to convince, they will be living with their own stand (and nothing or
nobody can change it). Since jupiter is a natural benefic so their nature will not be bad (or
troubling others) until they are attacked - jupiter is a very good planet except for pride,
anything that attacks the pride of jupiter-oriented people, they will retaliate very strong.
Though this isn't numerology that we are discussing, still the number 3 denotes jupiter -
therefore people born on 3, 12, 21 and 30 are ruled by jupiter. They will generally be willing
to help others easily but if they are attacked (their pride) then they will retaliate very
strong. This applies to vishakha as well.
In one way these people are lucky that a good planet comes at the beginning of their life
but unlucky that they don't get such good period later in life.
Anuradha/Anizham
Ruler of anuradha is Saturn. Its anujanma star is pushyami. It belongs to devagana and the
weakest part of the body is thighs. The animal symbol is deer(F). The anujanma for this star
is pushyami. While pushyami people are and active, anizham people are dull and lazy.
General Characteristics
As Saturn is the ruling planet and it a very slow moving planet. Thus natives are generally
slow and dull people. They are not punctual, they do not know value of time. They are very
Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Jaya)

22
talkative and have high imaginations. They cannot be depended upon for any undertakings
to be successful.
Moon is exalted in Taurus and is debilitated in scorpio. As moon is neecha here, we can see
that these natives are very sensitive. They get into mind fluctuations very easily and get
easily agitated and worried. Some people can even get into depressions. They are mentally
not strong. They lack focus of mind. Such people should be spiritually oriented, else will end
up in problems in life. They are very soft by nature.
As moon is neecha and moon stands for mother, generally their relations with mother are
also not great or remarkable. Mother’s support they may not have or get. Moon is also a
planet of travel. So such people travel a lot and also they like travels and feel very
enthusiastic about it. They have a restless mindset and always seek some change in life,
else they feel life is boring. They love good food and cannot bear hunger.
Pushyami is also ruled by Saturn and is in the house of moon. But anuradha is ruled by
Saturn and is in the house of mars its enemy. So this combination makes them not trust
worthy people. They are danger unto themselves and others through their conflicting
character.
The four padas of the star are ruled by sun, mercury, venus and mars. All the padas are in
scorpio or vrischika.
The lord of star is saturn and the lord of the house is Mars where the star resides. These
two planets along with the pada lord have to be considered in predicting the characteristics
of this star.
Generally they travel abroad. It is tough for these people to survive in india. As ignornace
is bliss, they are lucky people. After 45 yrs life will be better for them. They slowly grow in
life.
1st pada: Sun is the lord of this pada. It’s an enemy of saturn the star lord. To get right
knowledge is very tough for natives of this pada. They are sharp witted, aggressive and
power oriented as sun is the ruler. They seek power and are dominating. As subordinates

they find trouble at work. They are frank and outspoken sometimes. They talk less. They
show inclination towards spirituality. Married life will not be good. They will have people
around them.
2nd pada: Mercury is the lord. Natives are smart and clever. They are sattvik in nature. They
are beautiful and if they practise veena they will be experts in that field. They use wrong
logic and have their own set of wrong notions and live with it. They are rarely aggressive.
They have intellectual conflicts and are argumentative. They are very diplomatic. They do
not land into trouble by themselves. They cannot do low jobs.
3rd pada: Venus is the lord. They are known to move well with people. They are clever. They
are practical oriented people. They have characteristics of protecting others and lucky to
have good wives. Their ideas of relationship will be very different.
4th Pada: Mars is the lord. They are poor and ignoble and live in constant danger. They
actions land them in dangerous situations. They get easily provoked. They cannot do any
intellectual job. If placed high in ladder it will trouble all. They do not use their brains at
work. They are engaged in jobs like police men, labourers etc.
The star is good for travel. If illness falls in this star, it will take a long time to cure. It is a
good yoga if the star comes on sunday, thursday and saturday.
Girls attaining puberty in this star will live happily and beget good children.
Naming ceremony, ear-piercing, purchase of cloth, driving vehicle, house-warming,
purchase of cattle, sowing, taking first bath after illness, are good to be done under this
star.
The letters signifying each pada respectively are "naa" ,"nu" , "nee" and "nap"
Saturn dasa lasts for 19yrs for this star.
This star is visible in the month of july under Aquarius sign, at 10p.m in the sky.

Anuradha or anizham is one of the stars for which moon is debilitated. Though entire
horoscope has to be thoroughly analyzed before predictions, still anizham people have a
weak and fluctuating mind. Such people cannot fully be depended upon as their stands will
very quickly change (based on situations). That the dasha starting is saturn also means that
they have cheating, treachery etc. in nature (generally and should never be applied as such
to a person).
Due to moon being debilitated they will have water related diseases and problems.
Generally slow or dull in nature, they will be showing signs of laziness in their face.
Therefore looking at them, others will become sad and slow. Generally they will be fond of
wasting or killing time without any real or true purpose. This doesn't mean we have to avoid
them but just that we should be aware of their nature and then we will not be suffering as a
result of over-dependency upon them.
The positive thing for anizham people is that if they are able to control their mind through
sadhanas, then they will be able to achieve the peak of life as they generally are slow and
steady (this will ensure that they will achieve whatever they want to achieve).
Jyeshta/Thrikketta
It’s said in tamil proverb that people born in this star will suffer. But we need to consider
other factors in the horoscope too before we predict. It’s also said that the natives elder
siblings will not be doing good in life.
Ruler of this star is mercury. Its anujanma star is aslesha. The weakest portion of the body
is feet. The animal symbol is stag male. It belongs to Rakshasa gana. It is a feminine star,
placed in the debilitated portion of the moon.
This is known to be the star of devendra. So such people will be power oriented. They fear
that others may overtake them. They look for name and fame. They also indulge in all
pleasures.

General Characteristics
Mercury being the ruler of the star and mars being the house where its present, natives of
this star are clever. They are also self destructive sometimes. They are materialistic people
who seek wealth, name and fame.
They are brain driven and have peculiar outlook, over clever, try to outshine others,
outsmart people, they want to lead, if not allowed they will create problems. They want to
justify their acts and they want people to hear them. They pose to be spiritual but are not.
They are good at talking and trying to convince people.
Sharp tongued and sharp eyed too are those born in this star. But they are good natured
and therefore have many friends with them. They are honest and expect the same kind of
integrity in others. They will fight for the rights and civil liberties of man. They have
beautiful long noses and naturally sharp eyes. They will have birth marks in the stomach
region and saanti has to be done.
They will have more sons than daughters. Their nature is ever to be in an anxious mood.
Prime Minister Atal Vajpayee belongs to this star. Shakuntala devi who is famous all around
the world as human computer belongs to this star.
All the four padas of the star fall in scorpio. So the planets to be considered are mars and
mercury along with the pada lords. The lords of the padas are Jupiter, Saturn, Saturn and
Jupiter. Apart from the general characteristics of the star, below are specific to each pada.
1st Pada: The lord is Jupiter. The native is humorous but proud. He will be a writer too. Good
natured, but seek power and position. They will be religious and dominating.
2nd pada: Saturn is the lord. The native will ever be interested in drawing friends to his side.
Angry by nature, they will always be suffering from one ailment or the other. They are self-
destructive in nature.
3rd pada: Saturn is the lord. Being a malefic the native is likely to suffer from some bodily
defect. May be it is a defect in the eye. But they are merciful by nature. They will trouble

others by giving wrong directions intellectually. Their followers land in trouble. They cannot
be good advisors.
4th pada: Jupiter is the lord. The native will be pious and be interested in dharmic and
religious matters. He is likely to suffer from ear ailments.
As mars and Saturn are enemies, to be born in 2nd and 3rd pada of this star is not good, and
1st and 4th pada is better than the rest.
Ear piercing ceremony, brick making, settlement of legal disputes, fighting enemies, getting
back long-due and unexpected debts, learning mantric activities, selling of cattle are likely
to succeed if commenced in this star.
If red cloud is seen under this star, rain is likely. This star is not auspicious for travel. But if
travel is compulsory, after eating rice mixed with gingerly oil, one can start after 2p.m in
the southern or westerly direction.
The letters ”ya”, ”yi”, “yee” and “you” signify four padas respectively. Even if the names
do not commence with these letters they should come either in the middle or at the end.
The star starts with mercury dasa lasting for 17 years.
The star is seen in the sky at 10p.m in July in the aquarius sign and will be fully visible at
11:30p.m in the sky.
Ketta or Jyesta star is ruled by mercury and therefore we can say beyond doubt that people
born in this star will be smart, clever and diplomatic. Anything that requires smartness or
being cunning can be given to them and they will execute it perfectly. But unlike aslesha,
jyesta people are more power oriented and therefore they will always try to control people
around them - giving orders, advises etc. There is a saying in tamil that kettai chettai
pannum - this means jyesta people will cause issues. They will always be causing issues for
people around them and therefore it is better to not take advises from such people.

27
They will also be very calm at all times - but this is externally alone, internally their minds
will be spinning things quite fast. Wanting power, their aim or goal is to control people.
Vajpayee is jyesta - he is generally a very calm person but we can in a way say that his
govt couldn't rule the country and he had to resign within 13 days. Generally a very good
person but might cause issues to others - this is what we can say about jyesta people.
The above analysis (and that of Vajpayee) is just based on the star - we have to analyze
entire horoscopes before getting into predictions as such (for example unlike my father's
brother, Vajpayee is a good person with good/solid character).
Thus we have seen stars Visakha, Anuradha and Jyestha in this edition of the magazine. All
these stars fall in scorpio fully or partially. This is also the location where moon is
debilitated. It is also the house of mars. It’s interesting to see these stars and their
characteristics in this house of Vrischika. Vrischika sign generally denotes poison. So it also
represents people of poisoned minds. All factors have to be considered before we do
predictions. We are just discussing various aspects of the stars.
We shall continue with others stars from the next edition of the magazine.

Muhurtha – Electional Astrology - IV
Let’s recap what we have learnt till now before we move forward. We have understood till
now that panchanga consists of various limbs 1) Thithi 2) Vaara 3) Nakshatra 4) Yoga 5)
Karanas. We have seen what is meant by tithi or lunar month. We have understood about
vaaram or lunar month. We have seen Lunar year as well.
There are 5 groupings of tithis.
Nanda Tithi – the 1st, 6th and 11th tithi
Bhadra tithi – 2nd, 7th and 12th tithi
Jaya tithi – 3rd, 8th and 13th tithi
Rikta tithi – 4th, 9th and 14th tithi
Purna tithi – 5th, 10th and 15th tithi
Hora is also another term used in muhurtha. Hora in Sanskrit means an hour. Each hour of
a day is called hora. Each hr of a day is ruled by one planet. We have seen that each day is
ruled by a planet and the day is named after the planet. Similarly each hour in a day is also
ruled by a planet. The first hour in the day is ruled by the lord of the day. First hour of
Monday is ruled by moon and first hour of Saturday by Saturn etc. Each day has 24 hrs. The
first hour begins with sun rise.
Say on a particular day i.e Thursday 5th June, if sun rise was at 6:00a.m, then the first hour
of the day is from 6:00 a.m to 7:00 a.m and this is ruled by the planet Jupiter as the day is
ruled by the planet Jupiter. The second hour is ruled by mars. This we arrive at going back
the weekday by 2 days. If our current day is Thursday, we go back two days, Thursday and
Wednesday and we get Tuesday. So the 2nd hour ruler will be mars. Thus we keep going
backward by 2 days for each one hour we move forward.
6:00 to 7:00 a.m Jupiter
7:00 to 8:00 a.m Mars(Leaving Thursday and wednesday)
8:00 to 9:00 a.m Sun(Leaving Tuesday and monday)
9:00 to 10:00 a.m Venus(Leaving Sunday and saturday)
10:00 to 11:00 a.m Mercury(leaving Friday and thursday)

12:00 to 1:00 p.m Saturday(leaving Monday and sunday)

3:00 to 4:00 p.m Sun
4:00 to 5:00 p.m Venus
5:00 to 6:00 p.m Mercury
6:00 to 7:00 p.m Moon
7:00 to 8:00 p.m Saturn
8:00 to 9:00 p.m Jupiter
9:00 to 10:00 p.m Mars
Thus it continues till next day morning 6 a.m on Friday, 6th June.
We if observe here, three hours of the day on 5th June, i.e 6:00 a.m to 7:00 a.m, 1:00 to
2:00 p.m and 8:00 to 9:00p.m has same ruling planet Jupiter.
Based on the ruling planet for the day and the hour, the results can be predicted. Hence
based on the hora, the favourable activities are taken up.
Nakshatras
The zodiac consists of 12 houses and 27 stars. All stars eminate radiations. The moon
comes into contact with these radiations emitted by the stars. For each 13 deg and 20 min
traverse of the elliptical arc around the earth, the moon falls moves under a different star or
constellation influence.
Aswini ; Bharani ; Krittika ; Rohini ; Mrigasira ; Aridra ; Punarvasu ; Pushya ; Aslesha ;
Makha ; Pubba ; Uttara ; Hasta ; Chitta ; Swati ; Visakha ; Anuradha ; Jyeshta ; Moola ;
Poorvashadha ; Uttarashadha ; Sravana ; Dhanishta ; Satabhisha ; Poorvabhadra ;
Uttarabhadra and Revati.
If say moon is the 25 deg and 59 mins in Aquarius, then what is the constellation it falls
under?
The sign of aquarius is the 11th house. Each house has 30 deg. So the 10 houses are
covered till now. So until Aquarius 10* 30 = 300 deg are covered.
Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Jaya)

30
Moon is currently at 300+25 deg 59 min = 325 deg 59 min.
Covert into mins = 325*60 +59 = 19500+59 = 19559
Divide by the degrees occupied by each star. We will arrive at the the star number.
Each star length is 13deg and 20 mins = 13*60 +20 = 800 min
So star count = 19559/800 = 24 and remainder is 359 mins
So the moon is in the 24th star of poorvabhadra.
Yoga
This is the period during which the joint motion in longitude of the sun and moon amounts
to 13 deg 20min. The meaning of the word, Yoga as we know is union. So it’s due to the
forces in union from moon and sun which create these yogas. It represents conjunction of
subtle influences which strengthen our body, remove the germs and help us to enjoy life
and health.
As per surya siddhanta
If sun’s longitude is 114 deg 40 min
If moons longitude is 326 deg
Then total of sun and moon’s longitude is = 326+114 deg 40 mins
= 440 deg and 40 min = 4840 mins
Dividing 4840 by 800(13 deg and 20 min), we get quotient as 6 and remainder as 40. This
means that 6 yogas have passed and 7th yoga one is in. 40 mins is the part of the yoga,
that is traversed.
There are 27 such yogas in muhurtha.

Karana is another term used in panchanga. It is half a lunar day meaning the time taken to
complete the distance between sun and moon, which will be multiple of 6. There are 11
karanas, viz.
(1) Bava, (2) Balava, (3) Kaulava, (4) Taitula, (5) Garija, (6) Vanija, (7)
Visti, (8) Sakuna, (9) Chatushpada, (10) Naga and (11) Kimstughna.
The first seven come by rotation eight times in a lunar month, commencing with the second
half of the first lunar day.
Thus we have seen many aspects of Panchanga. Hora, nakshatra, yoga and karana were
dealt in brief here. Till now we have seen all the anagas of panchanga namesly, tithi,

Navamsa Analysis - I
The most important divisional chart among the various 16 divisions or shodasha vargas is
navamsa. The chart which is analysed next to the rasi chart is navamsa chart. Navamsa
means the 9th division. This is considered at par with rasi chart.
Why is the navamsa chart among all the other subdivisions of the chart more
important?
The accuracy of the predictions is more when the navamsa chart is also taken into
consideration. Some authors give equal importance to navamsa as that of the rasi chart.
Many astrological works have been written based on navamsa. Jaimini's system is based on
navamsa. Kala chakra dasa, sarvato bhadra chakra and ankana sastra are based on it as
well. Prashna tantra also takes into account the navamsa.
Navamsa division means dividing a house of 30 deg into 9 parts. This is formed by dividing
all houses into nine parts. Each part is a navamsa. The division among the 9 parts in a
house, where each planet falls in is called the navamsa of the planet. So each division of
navamsa measures 30/9 = 3 1/3 deg.
If we see it's exactly the same like a nakshatra pada. Each nakshatra has 4 padas and
stretches along 13 deg and 20 mins. Each nakshtra pada is 3 1/3 deg as well and is equal to
a navamsa. So the lords of the navamsa signs are same as that of the rasi. This is one of
the reasons why navamsa division has gained so much importance.
Navamsa chart is the backbone of rasi chart and is more subtle and gives more subtle
details than rasi chart.
If a planet is exaltation in rasi chart and is in in debilitated the navamsa chart its effects are
neutralized.
In a zodiac there are 12 vargottama positions where the house lord and division lord is the
same. Vargottama is the name given to that particular navamsa in a rasi, which has same
lord as the rasi itself. Planets gain more strength in a vargottama position.
Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Jaya)
Vetti yah vedaangam sa aapnothi paramam padam
prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha
34
Due to all above reasons navamsa is considered significant among the rest of the divisions
in shodasha vargas we are familiar with.
Lets see few calculations about navamsas
Each division of navamsa is equal to 3 1/3 of a degree or 3 deg and 20 mins. It is also equal
to 3*60+20 = 200 mins.
Each house has 9 navamsas. So in total, 9*12 = 108.
108 navamsas exist in a 360 deg zodiac consisting of 12 houses.
There are 12 houses and 9 divisions of each house. So from aries to cancer i.e consisting of
4 houses and 4*9= 36 divisions, the navamsa divisions would have completed 3 zodiacs of
12 houses. So at the end of 4 houses at a time there is begin of the zodiac cycle as well as
the beginning of a house. This forms a significant position called the gandanta, as it’s the
beginning or transit of a cycle.
Circular Zodiac
There is a circular chart representation of the navamsas in a zodiac. Below is the chart.
The Inner circle shows the divisions of the zodiac. The circle outside that shows the stars
and its spread across the houses of the zodiac. The next outer circle shows the navamsa
sub divisions. We see the location of the planets in the navamsas, in particular nakshatra
pada in a given house of zodiac.
We also can observe the confluence of completion of zodiac cycle and house.
Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Jaya)

35
The first navamsa in Mesha, simha and saggitarius begins with mesha. These houses marks
the completion of zodiac cycle and end of the stars in the houses. Hence the beginning of
the navamsa is again the first navamsa in zodiac.
The first navamsa in Vrishabha, kanya and makara, begins with makara sign. Mesha is the
first house in zodiac and its navamsa ends with saggitarius hence the first navamsa in
vrishabha will be mesha. Similarly with other houses as mentioned.
Mithuna, Thula and kumbha signs begin with Thula navamsa. The first navamsa in mesha is
mesha and ends with saggitarius. The first navamsa in Vrishabha is makara and ends with
Jyothisha Prakaasham Mithuna (Jaya)
Vetti yah vedaangam sa aapnothi paramam padam
prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha
36
Kanya. Hence the first navamsa of Mithuna the next house is Thula. This is similar also
about other houses.
Kataka, Vrischika and meena signs begin with kataka navamsa. The end of navamsa in
mithuna which starts with thula is Mithuna. So kataka navamsa starts with kataka. Similar
is the case with the other houses.
So we can conclude that 4 sets of trikona signs begin with same navamsa. The four sets are
mentioned above.
We can observe as well that mesha, kataka, thula and makara rasis start with their own
navamsas. I.e mesha starts with mesha navamsa and so also others.
The last navamsas of Kataka, Vrischika and meena are known as riksha sandhis or
gandantas.

Vargottama places
The first navamsa of movable signs aries, cancer, libra and Capricorn is the vargottama.
The fifth navamsa of four fixed signs Taurus, leo, scorpio and aquarius.
The ninth navamsa of four dual signs Gemini, Virgo, Saggitarius and Pisces.
These navamsas will be found to bear the same name as the sign themselves.
The fifth navamsa of Taurus is Taurus itself. The ninth navamsa of Gemini is Gemini itself.
So It also means that the navamsa calculations for movable sign is from itself, for a fixed
sign is from 9th house from itself, for a dual sign is from 5th house from itself.
So if we need to know what will be the first navamsa for simha we can arrive at it like this.
Simha is fixed sign. So the first navamsa starts from 9th house from itself. So counting nine
houses from simha, we get Mesha. So the first navamsa for simha is Mesha.
Below is another perspective of the navamsa divisions in a zodiac.
Actually the navamsa in a shodasha varga gives more information about spouse or the 7th
bhava effects.
We have seen the basis of navamsa and its signification in this edition of the magazine. We
shall look into deeper analysis of navamsa based on the book "Navamsa in Astro" written by
a very famous author chandu lal patel.

Gandantha – An Analysis - I
Many ancients texts have referred to this term of gandanta with respect to the life span of
the individual or the child at birth and evils corresponding to it. Today we shall understand
the term and its meaning and also see the various references given in our ancient texts on
this subject.
Gandanta means that which occurs at the border or end of a house.
BrihatParasaraHoraSastra one of the ancient texts deals with the subject.
Gandanta is determined by ghatikas. So let’s understand what a ghatika means before we
proceed to understanding gandanta.
Ghatika
Each day from sun rise to sun set is divided into 24 parts. Each hour is equal to 2.5
ghatikas. So one ghatika is 24 mins. Each hour of a day is ruled by one planet, which is
called Hora. Each day the time of rise of the sun is different.
In vol2 of Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra, chapter 85 it speaks of various evils at the time
birth, due to which the life span of the child can be in question. One of the factors is given
as gandantha. Even though the ascendant is well disposed, if the birth takes place on
amavasya, or chaturdashi(14thtithi), in the star of brother, in star of father or star of
mother, at the time of eclipse, In gandanta of three kinds, life span will be less.
In chapter 92 it talks about the remedies of gandanta. It gives the classification of
gandanta.
Gandanta is of three kinds namely of tithi, nakshatra and lagna. Birth, travelling and
performing auspicious functions like marriage in gandanta are likely to cause death of the
person.

prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha
40
TithiGandanta
The last two ghatikas of poornatithi (5th,10th and 15th) and first two ghatikas of nandatithi
(1st, 6th and 11th), which is total 4 ghatikas are known as tithigandanta.
NakshatraGandanta
The last two ghatikas of revati and first two ghatikas of ashwini, the last two ghatikas of
aslesha and first two ghatikas of magha and last two ghatikas of jyesta and first two
ghatikas of moola are known as nakshatragandanta.
LagnaGandanta
The last half ghatika of pisces and first half ghatika of aries, the last half ghatika of cancer
and first half ghatika of leo, the last half ghatika of scorpio and first half ghatika of
Sagittarius are known as lagnagandanta
AbhuktaMoola
Amongst these gandantas the last 6 ghatikas of Jyesta and first 8 ghatikas of moola are
known as abhuktamoola. This period is considered highly inauspicious.
So based on this we should can determine the location of the moon/tithi or lagna in the
zodiac in the stars mentioned to determine the gandanta degree of the stars.
Analysis of Nakshatra Gandanta
Thus gandanta occurs in the stars Revati, ashwini , Alsesha, magha, jyesta and moola.

41
Gandanta occurs in the last two ghatikas or first two ghatikas on these stars as mentioned
in the sloka. Lets analyse to understand what it means by 2 ghatikas.
Thus as we know one ghatika is 24mins of time. So 2 ghatikas means 48mins of time.
We know that moon moves 13 deg and 20mins in one house of a zodiac in a day.
This means that 24 hrs of day time, the moves 13 deg and 20mins in zodiac.
Coverting all degrees to mins we get, 13*60+20 = 800 mins
So in one hour the moon moves 800/24*60 =0.55 mins
2.5 ghatikas = 1 hr
So 2.5 ghatikas = 0.55 mins
So 2 ghatikas = (0.55/2.5 )* 2 =0.444 = 26 mins 39 sec
Revati is the last star in the zodiac. So the last 2 ghatikas of this star starts from
360 deg – 26mins 39 secs = 259 deg 59 min 60 secs - 0 deg 26mins 39 secs.
= 259 deg 33 mins 21 secs.
So a person is said to be in nakshatra gandanta of revati, if the location of the moon is
between 259 deg 33 mins 21 secs to 0 deg 0 mins and 0 secs or end of zodiac.
A person is said to be in nakshatra gandanta of Ashwini star if the moon is between 0deg to
0 deg 26mins and 39 secs.
Aslesha star is the last star in cancer. Cancer is the 4th house in zodiac. So its total degree
are 30*4 = 120 degrees.
A person is said to be in the nakshatra gandanta of aslesha when the moon is in between
119 deg 33 mins 21 sec to 120 deg.
A person is said to be in nakshatra gandanta of magha when the moon is in between 120
deg to120 deg 26mins and 39 secs.
Jyesta star is in the last portion of scorpio .It is the 8th house in zodiac. So the degrees of
the house will be ending by 8*30 = 240 deg
A person is said to be in nakshatra gandanta of Jyesta when the moon is in between 239
33mins and 21 secs to240 deg.

Analysis of Tithi Gandanta
Generally each day has two tithis. Each tithi the moon traverses 12 degrees. So as per the
rules mentioned above, in the particular tithi’s the last 26 mins is gandanta. Or wecan say
that during the tithi duration, the last 40 minutes before the tithi ends is the gandanta time.
Say the 1st tithi is for12 hrs. So the gandanta for 1st tithi is first two ghatikas, which will last
first 45mins of the duration of the tithi. Similar way it has to be applied to all tithi’s to arrive
at gandanta.
Analysis of Lagna Gandanta
This is similar to the nakshatra gandanta. Here half a ghatika is considered. It means 6mins
40 sec approx.
It means if the lagna falls between 359 deg 53mins 20secs To 0 deg 6 mins 40 secs.
Or if the lagna is in between 119 deg 53mins 20secs To 120 deg 6mins 40 secs
Or if the lagna is in between 239 deg 53mins 20 secs To 240 deg 6mins 40 secs
It is called Lagna gandanta. It occurs between pisces and aries, cancer and Leo and
between scorpio and saggitarius.
The circumstances in which the birth is inauspicious inspite of ascendant and other planets
being well placed is called gandanta.
In Phaladeepika in 13th chapter, in sloka9 it says as below
If the birth happens at the extreme end of a rasi which is associated with or aspected by a
malefic planet, the child will surely meet with its death at once. Should the child survive , he
will become like a king. If born at the junction of any one of the four corners and if aspected
by a malefic, the death of the child will soon happen.
As per the text Sarvartha Chintamani, chapter 10th, sloka 16th and 17th
Those who are born at a time when there is in the ascendant the end of a rising sign and
the start of another, are likely to loose their life early, particularly when the conjunction
points in the ascendant are associated with or aspected by malefic planets.

If the person born in gandanta lives somehow as a result of the merits of his parents, he will
become protector of his community, possessor of horses, elephants and riches.
Gandanta happens at the junction of Pisces & Aries, Cancer & Leo, Scorpio & Saggitarius.
These are the places where the end of the star and end of house or rasi happens. This
makes it most dangerous timing for birth or for a birth star. Revathi ends in pisces and
ashwini begins in aries. Thus these junctions show ending of one star and beginning of
another. Rest of the houses we see that the stars are spreading to the next house as well.
Also the stars from aries to leo complete one cycle of the planetary rulers. Ashwini the first
star in Aries is ruled by ketu and aslesha the last star in cancer is ruled by mercury. The
first star in Leo is magha and is ruled by ketu again. Hence this is also a repeat of cycle of
stars ruled by planets. Magha, ashwini and moola are called anujanma stars as they are
ruled by same planet. They are first stars in leo, aries and saggirarius. Thus we see 3 cycles
of same rulers of stars at these junctures. Due to all the above reasons, these junctions
have acquired significance and so also the stars falling here. Of all the stars, Jyesta and
moola are said to be causing more problems and are more dangerous than other stars.

Lets analyse few horoscopes to see the effects.
Chart 1 -- Lagna Gandanta
Analysis:
The lagna falls in the gandanta of mesha. As we can notice it’s in 0 deg and 25mins. Lagna
gandanta for mesha is till 0 deg 6 mins. So this deg of lagna is close to the specified one.
Also we see other factors which strengthen gandanta effects. The lagna lord mars is
debilitated, though it obtained neecha bhanga by being placed in kendra. But the lagna is
vargottama as well, which strengthens the prospects. Saturn a malefic though exalted
aspects the lagna. This is not good for long span of life. But Saturn which exalted in is a
Kendra is a positive point also. 8th lord which stands for span of life is also debilitated,
though it has got neecha bhanga being in a Kendra.
Native was away from parents since birth and was grew up away from home. Parents
separated after the natives birth. They are lot of strong factors which show the effects of
gandanta. But the native has a kingly life by the grace of the lord. This shows that if such a
native of gandanta some how survives he will be a king.

Analysis:
The star is moola and is in 2 deg in saggitarius. It belongs to moola first pada. The native
has lost mother and is away from father. From childhood , from schoolshe was separated
from parents.
The moola star falling nakshatra gandaanta had lead to being separated from parents
completely.
Mercury is the 9th lord and is in 29 deg in saggitarius, which is also like a sandhi position.
This also lead to separation from father.

Amala Yoga
One of the yogas which bestows everlasting fame and reputation is amala yoga. As the
name suggests, the person’s reputation will never be at stake. His character will be spotless
and he leads a prosperous life. Amala means pure. Prosperity and affluence will be achieved
through fair means if a benefic planet makes the yoga, while a malefic, while giving wealth
can make the means questionable.
Many people in various fields of life, who leave a mark in their career or who create an
impact on others, generally have this yoga. Some of the famous personalities we know who
have this yoga are our current prime minister Mr.Narendra Modi. The most famous legend in
film industry, who is still dominating the industry in his late 60’s with his charm and
elegance Mr Amitabh Bachan, the ex prime minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto, our ex
prime minister PV Narasimha Rao, Guru dev founder of chinmaya mission who is revered
world over have amala yoga.
When there are benefics in the 10th house from moon, then it is said to be amala yoga. The
natural benefics moon, venus and Jupiter can bring this yoga. Also any planet being a
functional benefit can also bring about this yoga to an extent. The strength of the yoga
depends on the strength of the planets in the 10th house as well as the benefic nature of
the planets in the house.
A planet in 10th from lagna or Chandra, shall ordain the fruits based on the ownership of
planets. A benefic in 10th makes one scrupulous as to the means he employs for earning,
while a malefic in the 10th, will no doubt make the native wealthy, but not make a person
famous or a man of character.
The effects of the yoga is determined, based on the planets and its effects. We shall see
some examples to understand this yoga.

Chart 1
Analysis:
This horoscope is of a very famous actor of the south. He belonged to the same era of N.T.R
who was another famous actor. Both of them dominated the film industry for long time.
While both had name and fame, there was never any remarks or questions on the character
of the native of this chart, while N.T.R had relations with many women of his times.
This reputation in character is due to amala yoga for this native. From moon Jupiter is in the
10th house. Jupiter being a benefic in the 10th house with no malefic aspects has brought
this kind of reputation for him. He was very famous at his work. His action in movies was
applauded and he got many awards. Jupiter is the 3rd lord from moon. 3rd house stands for
arts as well. So he became famous through his profession. As Jupiter is in the 10th, it
means that he had authority at profession.

But he is a role model for many of the younger generations, due to venus in the 10th house.
His name is taken in respect and has won over the confidence of the masses. The mass
appeal is also due to Saturn in the 10th house.
Jupiter aspect over the 10th house has given him an authority at work.Venus gave him all
the good name and Saturn some good mass appeal.

The strength of the yoga should be judged with overall horoscope.
B.V Raman in his books has mentioned that the yoga is either from lagna or moon. In many
cases I have found the yoga to be from the moon rather than from lagna.
For Adi sankaracharya Bhagavad pada, from lagna there are 3 benefic planets in the 10th
house. Sun, mercury and venus. This gave rise to pravrijya yoga. There is also amala yoga
forming in the 10th house from lagna. Swami ji was well renowned for the expositions on
Upanishads and spreading the word of truth to the entire world and helping in the
upliftment of our sanatana dharma.

Analysis : She is born under Thula lagna and poorvashada nakshatra. We often seen her
very balanced in all situations. She does loose control over herself in public and handles
herself well and maintains dignity & poise. These are the traits of Thula lagna. Such people
are like a balance , always doing balancing acts and not going to extremes.
Poorvashada star is good as its ruler is venus, which shows passion and fine arts. The star is
in the house of Jupiter. Such people are very social, talkative and good natured. Do not
harm others and are generally liked by many.
What gives so much beauty and charm to this lady? Venus is the lagna lord which indicates
beauty. Venus is with moon another feminine planet for beauty. Saturn and rahu aspect the
lagna lord. So venus and moon combination has given her the beauty and charm. Saturn
aspects didn’t make her very fair skinned. But she is fair to an extent due to venus and
moon being together.
Its not just beauty but luck also should accompany a person to reach such dizzy heights.
Yogakaraka for thula lagna is Saturn. Saturn is the 4th and 5th lord. Saturn is in the 9th
house of bhagya. So she earned lot of money as yogakaraka is in the 9th house. Mothers
support also was there always for her as Saturn stands for her mother as well.
She is always lean and maintains her figure. The reason for the lean body is sun being
neecha In lagna. A neecha planet in lagna doesn’t give a very healthy or fat body. Also
lagna lord venus is in 1 deg. This also shows that the person cannot put on much weight.
Poorvashada people generally become fat later in life. But due to the other reasons she may
not put on weight.
Sun stands for bones. So sun being weak she may have bone related problems in life.
Venus in one degree shows a weak constitution of the body.
Venus is also the 8th lord and is with mandi. Saturn is also the ayush karaka. Venus is weak
as its in 1 deg and Saturn is in enemies house, but it is also well located in the 9th house.
The 10th lord moon is also not placed in kendra. This shows that life span is not very long.

also of India. From moon ruchaka yoga forms in the 5th house of name and fame and
children. This is also a reason she has so many fan followers. Her children also will become
famous due to this yoga.
She won the peagant award during the moon and mercury period. Moon is the 10th lord and
mercury being the 9th lord, brought her the laurels. Her mars period was between 1998 and

house of words is 2nd house. Mercury the planet of letter is in the 2nd house. From moon
Jupiter is in the 2nd house, though its neecha. This shows that very words and statements
mean something and that she is very smart and choosy at words. Her words show some
power, confidence and authority due to Jupiter in the 2nd house.
She is logician and argumentative as the 5th lord from moon is in the 5th house. As moon
and venus are together, she is a very emotional and passionate person too. Moon is also
afflicted by rahu and Saturn. So her mother may be facing some health issues. Aishwarya
also has lot of mental tensions and worries due to moon being afflicted with malefics.
9th lord mercury in the 2nd house shows dhana yogas. She amassed lot of wealth. 12th lord
mercury is also in the 2nd house. This also shows some losses for her. Jupiter neecha in the

Ruchaka yoga forming in the 7th house has not only given her name and fame, but her
husband is also from a very famous family of bacchans. He himself is like a prince. They had
the ancestral property and name and fame to add for themselves.
There are three planets in Kendras. Sun, Jupiter and mars. Chatursagara yoga is formed
due to this and ash travels very frequently the world over.
Venus stands for partner as well and its with moon. So the partner is also handsome and
soft natured. As venus and moon is the 3rd hosue of brothers and sisters. Aishwaryas
brother is also handsome. Due to mars being strong in the horoscope, she had a brother,
rather than a sister, but brother is mostly feminine in character.
Due to mars aspecting the lagna, ash is sometimes aggressive and talks boldly and frankly
as well and is a bit argumentative. She has kuja dosha as mars is in the 7th house. This is
not good for marriage and may create arguments and differences among the couple unless
some shaanti is done.
From moon Saturn is in the 7th house with rahu. This made her choose a husband younger
than her. Saturn in 7th gives lot of age differences. Due to rahu also being there, the age
difference was also not in traditional way.
Sun attains neecha bhanga raja yoga being in lagna. Mars is the lord of the sign where sun
is exalted and mars is in Kendra and aspecting sun. Hence sun gives yoga, due to which she
has that power and say in the society and has gained it without much difficulty.
From lagna 7th lord is forming lot of yoga. So she will get lot of yoga from family and
partner. Venus in the 3rd house is not very favourable. From moon 7th lord mercury is in
the 12th house which is not good. But venus is in lagna. So it is not a very bad horoscope
for marriage. She might face some difficulties but shall overcome it. Jupiter in the 2nd
house from moon also helps in bringing together and keeping all family bonds.

The 5th lord Saturn from lagna is well placed in 9th house. This shows that children will be

having girl children.
From moon 5th lord mars is in the 5th house. This shows chances of male children and also
indicates prosperity for children.
10th lord moon is in the 3rd house, but aspected by Saturn the yogakaraka. Hence she has
so much yoga in film industry. But 10th lord in 3rd house shows not a full fledged work
profile, to continue for many years. Mandi associated with it shows some problems also she
might face at work places.
The 3rd lord Jupiter is in Kendra, though its neecha. So she gets some support from her
brother as well. Jupiter the 3rd lord is in the Kendra and moon and venus are in 3rd house.
Benefics in 3rd and 3rd lord being a benefic, show that she is a very courageous lady.
Currently rahu dasa is running, from 1995 to 2023. During rahu and Jupiter dasa she got
the national award. Rahu gives the effects of Jupiter. Jupiter is the 3rd and 6th lord in the
4th house. Jupiter being the 3rd lord of arts has given her awards in that period. Jupiter is
also aspecting the 10th house of profession.
Venus and mercury are weak being in one deg and two degrees in horoscope. They may
bring sudden changes in life. In coming Jupiter dasha we may see her traveling more and
troubles to her brother.
