Chances are you’ve been searching the

web, looking for information on Jyotish

and Vedic Astrology. But, the information

out there was just not presented in an

easy to read and understand format—

until now.

Jyotish is meant to be fun and entertaining as

well as informative and instructive. This brief

E-book should get you started in the right

direction of enjoying yourself while

beginning to learn a very big science!

What is Jyotish anyway?

Jyotish (jyoh-tish) is basically the study and science of time, and how we as individuals and

groups will function while having our own very personal experiences of time and space in

our human bodies.

Time itself is found to be comprised of three elements: past, present, and future. Time moves

cyclically, as well as looping back on itself – creating again and again – like a big wheel that

keeps on turning.

We clearly see time’s cyclical and

looping motions when studying the

hands on the face of a circular clock –

moving ever forward – yet eternally

looping back and over the same hours.

Every moment of time feels magically

new, yet all moments are essentially the

same. Somewhere in the deep inner

workings of the clock are maintained

the mysterious secrets of the past,

present and future. Big Ben, Tower of London, England

Ancient Vedic Seers visualized time and space through heightened awareness

In ancient times, when the world was purer, and life

was simpler, certain individuals called rishis, or “seers”

cognized time and space, not by using telescopes or

other instruments, but through their own heightened

awareness. In their silent and expanded inner

awareness, they saw the dance of the cosmos, appearing

to expand and contract, to create and dissolve, while

really not changing at all.

The heightened awareness of the seers comes about by accessing the inner light of

consciousness. This ability to “see” eternal truths through consciousness is called

Jyoti-Mati-Pragya.

Deep in meditation, the seers’ cognized that

intricate patterns, subtle emanations of sound,

were vibrating throughout the cosmos. They

recognized that there is an intelligent

placement of the planets, stars, and galaxies,

all part of a grand underlying unified plan,

flowing together in sequential and

simultaneous steps of natural law.

From their steady state of awareness it was

apparent that everything, be it planets, stars,

galaxies, plants, animal, and human life; all is

an expression of one unified substance.

These great sages cognized the deepest reality of life, the Unity that underlies and connects the individual with all of creation: this experience is expressed in the Vedic Literature as “Aham Brahmasmi – I am Brahman – I am totality – I am cosmic”.

Some patterns and interconnections in space looked like the shapes of earthly animals,

insects, and creatures – all kinds of familiar things.

Patterns were seen in the stars that looked similar to many familiar

things and were named accordingly: Cancer the crab, Leo the lion,

Pisces the fish, Sagittarius the

archer, Libra the Scales, Taurus

the bull, and Scorpio the

scorpion…

Can you begin to see the pattern

of some of the stars?

Do you see Scorpio the scorpion

in this picture? See how his tail curves back over his body,

just like a real scorpion!

How about the scales of justice of Libra? Look closely at the picture of

the scales to the right, and then at the Libra star pattern. Do you see

similarities in the patterns? Well done! Now, see if you can see the

stubborn stance of Taurus the Bull, or the two powerful pincers of Cancer

the Crab. Can you see any other star patterns emerging?

All transformations occur through the Laws of Nature

Because the rishis were aware that nothing in the universe is stationary, these

earliest of astronomers naturally imagined themselves (the experiencer) as the center

point around which everything revolved. All of the planets –the heavenly bodies (the

experienced)—were in constant motion around all life here

on earth.

These rishis recognized that all transformations occur

through Laws of Nature, responsible for all changes and

developments experienced in life, and that life unfolds

sequentially through the steps of evolution from the moment of birth.

Without going anywhere at all, without complex tools and instruments, just sitting

silently in deep meditation; these ancient seers’ cognized the entire interplay of the

planets, stars, galaxies and universe…

With the brilliant guidance of a modern rishi,

(His Holiness, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi), Dr. Tony

Nader (noted neurophysiologist) discovered the 9

planets—including the two lunar nodes—in the

brain physiology. By revealing these lively

receptors for the cosmos in the brain, it is clear

why we as individuals experience the play and

display of planetary influences in our daily lives.

His Holiness, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Dr. Nader also reveals that the 12 Rashis,

the 12 Bhavas (houses), and the 27 Lunar

Nakshatras correspond to specific areas of

the physiology, showing an intricate web of

interconnectedness between the individual,

his environment, and the heavenly bodies.

Dr. Tony Nadar discovers Veda in the Physiology

Each part of the brain has a unique cosmic

counterpart. As it is in the macrocosm, so it

is in the microcosm…

According to Jyotish, prediction of future events is possible

because the same orderly and sequential Laws of Nature

governing the evolution of the universe also govern the life of

the individual.

By knowing any one point in the sequence, such as the time

and place of birth, an expert can mathematically calculate

forwards and backwards in time.

Why is Jyotish referred to as the eyes of the Veda?

There are six limbs of the body of Veda, called the Vedangas. Jyotish is one of the

Vedangas. Because the ancient seers were able to use their inner consciousness to

see the supreme truth within, including transcending the opaqueness of time - to

see past, present and future - Jyotish is referred to as the eyes of the Veda.

Veda means knowledge…

“Jyoti” means a flame or light…

“Isht” means the best, or wisest…

Some translate this suffix to mean

science – still others claim its basis is

another word for God.

As the supreme science of light, Jyotish points

the way, guiding us with the inner light of

consciousness to the eternal truths.

What does a Jyotish Chart look like?

South Indian Chart

Sample Jyotish Chart – North Indian

These intriguingly divided squares contain the 7 major planets, the two nodes of the moon

(symbolized by Su, Mo, Me, Ve, Ma, Ju, Sa, Ra and Ke) 12 numbers and 12 houses. Each Jyotish

chart contains unique variations and combinations of the numbers and planets. A skillful Jyotishi

reads the yogas, (combinations), patterns of the numbers, aspects, dashas, and the many subtle

planetary configurations to reveal the secrets of the chart and the sequential unfoldment of time.

How can you possibly do a Jyotish reading for me without ever meeting?

Even though it may seem rather mysterious, there is a very systematic approach to reading a

Jyotish chart.

Because the same sequential and orderly laws of nature govern the universe as well as the

individual, it is possible with some practice, to mathematically calculate backwards and

forwards in time when we have one point in the sequence. The “one point” necessary to do the

calculations, is the birth data of the individual client.

If the birth time of the client is known, along with the location, (city,

province (state), and country) a Jyotish chart can be drawn up and

analyzed. Even if that exact data is not known, a special chart called a

Prashna Chart (question of the moment chart) can be drawn up to give an

effective reading

The client doesn’t have

to be present for the

Jyotishi to draw up,

analyze or read the

chart. With the advent

of internet, a chart

reading is downloaded

later. Telephone or Skype

appointments are also

available.

How does a Jyotishi draw together a chart with just that “one point” of time and location?

One of the simplest ways to describe how a Jyotish reading is accomplished is by looking at the

keys on a piano. When we first look at a piano keyboard, and we’ve had no experience playing

the instrument, we see a confusing number of keys that don’t seem to have any pattern or

rhythm. How anyone can sit down and play anything on such a complicated instrument and

Page 8: Jyotish is Fun! - Vedic Astrology For You!jyotishwithpaulablog.com/jyotish_is_fun.pdf · Jyotish is Fun! Jyotish is Fun! Author: Paula Johnsen, M.A. Some patterns and interconnections

Jyotish is Fun!

Jyotish is Fun! Author: Paula Johnsen, M.A. www.Jyotishwithpaula.com

know what they’re doing, seems impossible at first glance. However, many people play the piano

and some are extremely skilled at doing so.

Finding the simple fundamentals within the complicated sequences

How does one learn to play? Break down the seemingly complicated

sequences of keys to simple fundamentals.

A beginner at the piano is taught that there are fundamentally 7 white keys

and 5 black keys that make up one octave. One can play semi-tones (half-

tones) and full tones, in a series of combinations and sequences within that basic octave and

have a lot of fun creating music. A four year old, for example, can use one finger and play

“twinkle, twinkle little star”.

With a number of years of study and practice nearly anyone can learn how to use

these basic keys contained within the seven octaves on a keyboard in a wide variety

of combinations. With much practice and study one may become a very skilled and

accomplished pianist, capable of playing anything.

Jyotishi’s also locate the basic components within the complicated sequences

In this same way, someone well trained in Jyotish knows that there are

basic components to the Jyotish chart: 9 planets, 12 ascendants, 12

houses, 27 nakshatras and 36 drekkanas.

Contained within those basic components are an almost infinite number of

yogas or combinations, as well as lordships, friends and enemies, strengths

and weaknesses, aspects and many other subtleties within the basic Jyotish

chart and the accompanying vargas (secondary charts).

A skilled Jyotishi knows how to read and understand the intricacies of the

chart(s) and simultaneously reveal the key underlying components for the

clients’ benefit. By understanding the sequential unfoldment of time, the

Jyotishi can also make effective predictions about the future, as well as

remedial measures to minimize the negative effects of various planetary

trends. Recommendations for maximizing the positive effects contained within

each sequence of the unfoldment of time may also be suggested.

How long do I have to wait to begin learning Jyotish?

One may begin to learn Jyotish from the moment you feel the desire to do so. On-line courses are

readily available; it’s a matter of selecting a teacher you feel comfortable with, and beginning.

You’re already learning some of the basic components just by

reading this E-book… Jyotish is Fun! Just as a child easily learns

to play “twinkle, twinkle little star” on the piano, interested

students can learn the basic combinations, begin to read charts

and have great fun while learning.

Like a professional musician, however, it requires many years of

dedicated study and practice to effectively read a Jyotish chart

for the benefit of a paying client. The study of Jyotish is

considered a life-long study; some say it takes many lifetimes to

achieve enough proficiency to become a master of this science of

light.

Upcoming on-line courses like Jyotish 101 for Beginners will soon be available.

What should I expect from a reading?

One of the world’s best Jyotishi’s stated that a Jyotish reading is about 70

– 80% accurate. Why? As human beings we have the great gift of free

will, prayer and other positive activities that can change expected or

predicted outcomes in the sequence of time.

We’re not fortune tellers or psychics, though many Jyotishi’s do have a

finely honed sense of intuition that they use in conjunction with their

training. If you’re looking for the numbers to win a lottery, or the exact

date you or others may die, this is not the reading for you.

If you’re looking for an explanation for the “why’s” behind your

experiences, some useful insights about the ”where”, “when,” and “how,”

circumstances will change, or improve, and how to effect those positive

changes, I’ve found Jyotish readings to be invaluable.

What kinds of readings are available?

There’s a reading designed for nearly every kind of question.

I focus on five kinds of readings:

Basic 90-minute reading – (60 minute audio + bonus 30-minutes live with Paula)

Urgent Question Reading (Prashna Reading): one hour reading

To Set an Important Date (Muhurta Reading)

Annual Birthday Reading (Varshphal Reading)

Prashna Brief (15 minute, one-question reading)

The first and most practical way to start is to have a Basic Reading:

A Basic Reading includes: 60-minute audio link, and a bonus 30-minute phone call or Skype appointment, live with Paula, answering 3 questions about your reading.

I focus on your most important issues and opportunities in the Basic Reading. The 60-minute portion of the reading begins with an overview of your personality, outlining a number of recognizable traits or qualities I see in the chart. This confirms that I have the correct chart, and speaking about you - not someone else.

Then, I go into fine details about your unique qualities, your life path, and a number of issues you may be experiencing or have experienced in your life. This includes valuable information about some of the challenges you may be facing in your spiritual life journey, how to work with the energy to maximize personal growth and minimize the negative.

Quite a lot of territory is covered in this reading including: your nature, talents and gifts, important health issues, upcoming beneficial or challenging times, combinations for wealth, and domains of life to focus on for success. In addition to the questions you submit with your birth information, the reading may answer unspoken questions as knowledge about your personality and psychological attributes are brought to light. Once you’ve finished listening to the 60-minute audio, contact me to set your Bonus 30-minute live with Paula appointment - to answer 3 questions.

What’s required for a Basic One-hour (60 – 90 minute) reading?

1. Birth time – exact as possible – am/pm 2. Location – city, province, (state)country of birth 3. If daylight savings was in effect at time of birth

I don’t know my birth time details – can a chart still be drawn up for me?

A birth chart can still be drawn up – even if you don’t know your exact birth time, so don’t worry.

However, it is good to do all you can from your side to get the correct birth information.

Try to be as exact as possible – double check with known sources.

Hospital records are usually a good place to start. Check the “vault records” if possible.

Mother’s or family members usually have a good memory for the event. Was there

something extraordinary about the time of birth? Though child birth is always a

memorable event, one particular child was born in the middle of an earth quake. Her

mother glanced at the clock as the floors and walls were shaking.

An older sibling or relative may remember details more accurately than aging parents.

Paula, the Basic readings you did for our family members were wonderful! From the moment each of our kids listened to the readings (we did it together), they were staggered - jaw droppingly so. You nailed their personality traits, issues they were dealing with, interests and hobbies, and even some stuff they hadn't confided to us, or anyone. It was a good way to get to know them better, and drew us together as a family. And, the humorous way you suggested dealing with my daughter's tendency to attract unhappy relationships brought the house down. We were all laughing so much! My wife and I went over our own charts together. We were very pleased with your insights, the way you brought up the challenges we were experiencing and your down-to-earth suggestions about how to minimize the negative and improve the positive in our lives. Very practical steps and some remedial measures, including gemstones were outlined. Now all we have to do is start applying them! We received much more than we ever anticipated and are very grateful. Thanks, Paula K.J.Z&N

What is a Prashna Reading?

Prashna Reading means – urgent question of the moment.

When we don’t know our exact birth time, or are very uncertain

about the time, it’s good to have a Prashna Reading. Simply note

the time you’ve requested the reading, (am/pm) location, province

(state) and country. A special Jyotish chart is drawn up to help

answer any pressing questions of the moment as well as give a

general reading to the client. This chart is valid for about a year

after the reading is completed, and may be referred back to during that time.

Alternatively, a Prashna Reading is one to schedule if you have urgent questions about issues that

are happening in your life right now.

For example, you want to know if that fabulous house you just saw on Vancouver Island is worth

purchasing. A Basic Reading will show whether or not it is generally a good/bad time for buying

houses, but it won’t answer questions about that specific house. This is where a Prashna Chart –

question of the moment comes to the rescue.

A Prashna Reading can really assist when you need to know something right now!

A client of mine had a specific question about a real estate purchase, noted the exact time she

walked across the threshold of the home and forwarded the details to me for a Prashna Brief (15-

minute, one-question reading) My response to her was: “Based on the Prashna Chart, I don’t

recommend purchasing this home. There are foundation issues that will cost a great deal of

money to repair. An inspection will reveal the flaws in the home.”

Though the client was initially disappointed, here’s what she stated after receiving the building

inspection:

“Thanks, Paula for the Prashna reading and your kind advice. Though I loved the house

on the Island, you were absolutely right! The inspection report showed substantial flaws

in the foundation. I’d be paying huge sums of money for the repairs right now, if I hadn’t

had the reading done. Initially I was terribly disappointed, but now I’m simply relieved.

I’ve saved a whole lot of money!”

What is the “To Set an Important Date” reading (Muhurta)?

Well begun is half done. A Muhurta is used to set important dates to get maximum support from the laws of nature.

A Muhurta is used to set a start date for anything you wish to begin well. Setting a wedding date, starting a business or partnership, moving to a new home, or selling your existing property, are just a few of the kinds of events that a Muhurta chart is useful for. Certain

days of the week are considered more auspicious than others for specific events.

For example, when starting a business it may be best to start on a Wednesday, Thursday, and even Saturday may be a good day - depending on the kind of business you are establishing. For a happy marriage, though, it's most auspicious to get married on a Friday, owned by Venus, a very good day for starting celebratory events involving love, joy and harmony.

Why not get married on a Saturday?

Many people in the western hemisphere choose to get married on Saturday so that they and their guests have plenty of time for the event and then rest on Sunday. From the Jyotish perspective, however, Saturday (Saturn day) is a good day for hard work, pressure, suffering and effort – not a day to begin a celebratory event involving love and harmony. Saturday marriages generally involve too much work and not enough happiness. Perhaps this is why nearly 50% of marriages in North America end in divorce?

Planning carefully to encourage maximum support from the laws of nature on the day you begin your important event can save time, avoid heartbreak, and help ensure a smoother road to success in the long term.

Useful points to consider when setting an important date

Be as specific as possible with the details of the planned event, including:

A window of time when the event can take place (earliest and latest time) and when the event must happen, if applicable.

Have you considered registration office hours? Usually businesses are incorporated

within certain hours, Monday to Friday. In some places, however, registration can take place on Saturday, on-line, or at any time. Let me know which applies.

Are you open to considering an alternative time or date if an auspicious time is not

available within your time frame? For example, you wish to get married in two weeks: I

Page 14: Jyotish is Fun! - Vedic Astrology For You!jyotishwithpaulablog.com/jyotish_is_fun.pdf · Jyotish is Fun! Jyotish is Fun! Author: Paula Johnsen, M.A. Some patterns and interconnections

may discover that there are no really auspicious dates within that time, but in three weeks, there is an exceptional day. If you let me know in advance about your flexibility, I may be able to better serve you.

Note the kind of event you are planning, where it will take place, and between which hours

Example: I need to incorporate a home staging business within the next 30 days, between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, EST at London, Ontario. The business will be incorporated in London, but

operate in Fort Erie. I will be the sole proprietor. Example: I want to sell my residence within the next three months. I'm located in Bruderheim, Alberta, north of Edmonton. What would be the best day to list the property with a realtor? The realtor's offices are open between 10 - 6 pm, Monday - Friday (MST).

Further examples of Muhurta Events

1. A client wished to sell one of her three properties in the next six months. When would a good date be to list the property?

As the owner had three properties in two provinces, it is important to advise me which of the properties is for sale - residential, or business, and the exact location - example: Victoria, B.C.

2. A client wished to set a wedding date within the upcoming year. Her family and friends were coming from abroad and the wedding had to occur on a Friday. Important to let me know the location of the planned event, and what times during the day are good - mornings, afternoons, or evenings. What is the latest time, and earliest time required.

3. A client was getting married suddenly and needed to set a date in two weeks. Could Paula find a good date for her wedding?

If there is little time before an important date, it becomes more challenging to find an ideal time and it may come down to choosing between two less than ideal, but still acceptable times. Try to give me as much advance time as possible to choose the best date for your special event.

"I want to thank you for the Muhurta reading that you recently did for me to start a business. I felt well taken care of knowing that you were thoroughly examining all the possible charts to give an auspicious incorporation time. As you mentioned, I still have to go through the necessary activities to have a successful business. However, with the Muhurta you have chosen, I feel an extra blessing for this new beginning. I also found the background information you provided to support the Muhurta choice was both inspiring and informative. Once again, thank you!" Geraldine, Ontario

What is an Annual Birthday Reading? (Varshphal)

A Varshphal Chart - called the birthday chart - is calculated on the day of the year that the sun and the moon are in the exact configuration as your date of birth. (This is referred to as the yoga—union—between sun and moon.) A special chart is drawn up each year and analyzed to give more details about how the year will go. Your Varshphal "birthday" can vary somewhat year to year. In India, many celebrate their birthday day according to the Varshaphal Chart calculations.

A Varshphal Reading is very helpful to get specific about upcoming events - particularly health events - each year. It is read separately from the Birth Chart and can give some accurate and quite startling insights that may not be revealed from a Basic Reading. Alternatively, it may confirm certain upcoming challenges that are noted in the birth chart. There is an old saying that "three logs make a fire." If there are indicators and confirmations from a number of directions suggesting problem areas, or upcoming challenges - it is wise to attend to them.

Story of a Jyotishi who made a seriously inaccurate prediction…

One Jyotishi from many centuries ago predicted a young prince would live a very long and healthy life. The prince's birth chart looked very good for an exceptional year, and the Jyotishi, an old friend of the royal family, made a confident prediction to the king. He didn't mention that there may be a small, possibly troublesome time for the boy in about two months. It seemed like such an insignificant event compared to the overall tenor of happiness and joy he read in the chart. There was much joy and celebration in the royal family when the king heard the good news about his son's good health and predictions for his well-being. Several months later, the prince was happily playing with his friends in the courtyard. Suddenly, one of the large turrets fell from above, hit the prince squarely on the head and instantly killed him. The king was deeply upset not only at the death of his son, but that his royal Pundit had failed to predict this event. The Jyotishi fell to his knees, begging for his life and an opportunity to correct his tragic mistake. As the king had a soft spot for his old friend, he banished him from the kingdom.

The Jyotishi travelled far and wide, looking for answers and finding few. He couldn't find any specific reason as to why the boy may experience a head injury at that time - nor why he may die. Finally he settled in Greece (some say it was Persia) to learn more about something the experts there referred to as a birthday chart - a Varshphal chart. In analyzing the prince's birthday chart, the Greek (or Persian) astrology experts revealed that the king's son could be hit in the head by a falling object and may die from the injury. The Jyotishi was very excited by this information, and settled down to study with the Varshphal experts for some time. When he felt confident with his practice in reading the birthday charts, he contacted his king with the good news that he not only knew why he'd made the mistake in prediction, and how to teach the knowledge to others. The king blessed the Jyotishi and permitted him to return to his homeland. Once there he applied the knowledge and taught many of his peers about the Greek (Persian) style of birthday readings. The Varshphal Chart has now become an integral part of the Vedic tradition in India and is now used widely as a secondary reading.

Dear Paula, “I wish to thank you for the most revealing Birthday chart you drew up for me this year. You mentioned that there were confirmations in this chart of some ongoing health issues that needed to be attended to. You mentioned that both charts (my birth chart and the birthday chart) pointed to the heart as the main culprit. This surprised me quite a bit, as I have certainly had lung and asthma conditions for many years, but my heart has been ticking along pretty well. After reading your written analysis more closely, I booked an appointment with a family doctor and asked her to check out my heart - just as a point of interest. As she investigated, she sent me off to a specialist and it turns out I need to have heart surgery as soon as possible. I'm very grateful for the head's up this has given me, as now I have time to get my affairs in order, and have my many beloved animals shipped off to temporary homes until my hospital stay is over. “ With appreciation, Sheresze

What is a Prashna Brief reading?

A Prashna Brief is available to existing clients who've had at least one reading with Paula:

1. You have one urgent question about something important to you. 2. The answer doesn't take more than 15 minutes.

Samples of Urgent Questions for Prashna Brief readings

Case One: An existing client had an urgent question about an upcoming interview: Q: How will the interview go and does it look positive for me to secure the job?

"I was called for a job interview, and asked you to do a Prashna Reading. You gave me some very interesting information about the process of the interview, the person who was going to be interviewing me, and the job itself. I thought you may like some feedback: 1. The interview would be delayed for some time after I arrived. (The interview was delayed for about 15 minutes.) 2. The man interviewing me was under a lot of pressure with the business, both financially and personally. The business was undergoing transformations and changes. (The interviewer was under pressure, and so was the business. He expressed both of these to me as the interview proceeded.) 3. Though it looked like there was a job and that I may be offered the job; the job may not actually exist right now. ( I was offered the job, told I was just the right person for it, and that he'd be calling my references and hiring me the following Monday. After not hearing back from him for two weeks, I called him. He mentioned his company was going through too many upheavals right now, and that they'd decided not to bring on anyone new at this time. They'd be reconsidering the position next year.) So, Paula, your Prashna reading was very accurate. I must say that it allowed me to be a bit less attached and nervous about the interview process and whether or not I'd get the job. When I arrived and was kept waiting, I began to chuckle and relax, wondering what would happen next. When I met the interviewer and found him to be very stressed by the upheavals in his business, I wasn't surprised. When he offered me the job on the spot, I nodded and thought "let's wait and see what happens." When I didn't get the job, I wasn't as disappointed, knowing that it may happen in the future.” Many thanks! Richard C., Alberta

Prashna Brief Cases continued…

Case Two: An existing client had an urgent question about her mother's hospitalization: Q: My mother's health seems to be failing. How does it look for the coming months?

Case Three: An existing client wished to know if they should participate in an upcoming class in the U.S., which required some travel. She hadn't been feeling well and wondered whether she should purchase the tickets and go ahead with travel arrangements. Q: Is this a good time for me to travel to take a course in the U.S. Will my health improve in time to take the course?

“I was really grateful to read your confirmation stating that it looked good for me to travel to the U.S. to take an important course. You were right; I did start to feel better about a week before going, and enjoyed the trip and the course tremendously. Everything went smoothly." Arlene

"My mom has not been feeling well and is hospitalized in another city. You encouraged me to go and visit her frequently and have the kids come up to visit with her as well in the upcoming months. The chart looked like both she and my father may continue going through quite a challenging time, health-wise. I've found your advice very helpful and timely. Though it is taking extra time and effort to make the weekly trip, it has also brought us closer. I've felt to open up and say some of the things I've been feeling in my heart to her. It's been really good to do so. Thanks so much!" J.S.

Jyotish Lights the Way

Jyotish, the Science of Light, is a marvelous roadmap to life – showing

us where we may need to take a detour to avoid problems, when to put

the pedal to the metal and proceed with great confidence, and how to

improve the challenging situations that may come up in life. Jyotish

offers a series of optional remedial measures, including: meditation,

seasonal routine, gemstones, mantras, service and donations.

Jyotish With Paula

Jyotish with Paula offers a unique and uplifting approach to Jyotish Readings. With over 30 years of experience as a Vedic Science teacher, I bring a wealth of experience to assist you. My first goal is to remind you of your unique individuality within the context of life's great plan. Each of us has wonderful gifts and talents

that we bring with us into this life. Many of us may have forgotten what these are, and what our deeper purpose is, as we become overwhelmed with all the contrasts in experience and responsibilities we've taken on. Jyotish lights our way, reminding us that we are truly divine beings, having temporary human experiences. We are ultimately here to expand, to grow, and to enjoy greater levels of freedom. Jyotish provides a natural road map of our life, showing us where we are, how to get to where we wish to go, and how to overcome or detour around obstacles that may be in our way. When we run into challenging or stressful times we may feel that we've lost our support of nature, or that we've been forgotten somehow. Nothing is further from the truth. I've found by personal experience that there are hidden strengths, lessons to be learned and profound benefits to be found within the most challenging times. It is necessary, however, to attune yourself to the time, and go with the flow rather than resisting. Jyotish helps us identify the nature of the times we are in, adapt to the strengths and benefits, and maximize the good effects. Once we know the quality of the prevailing influence, then we can make the necessary adjustments to make our life happier and more gratifying. When more favorable times are on the horizon, Jyotish also helps us prepare to surge ahead and maximize the positive trends.

“Paula gives the most amazing Jyotish readings! She's reminded me of the big picture in my life and touched upon areas that other Jyotish readings have never revealed. She also gently brought my attention to health issues that needed to be addressed right away with my physicians. Some remedial measures I can easily do at home were also suggested. I'm so grateful." Sheresze Hilford, Alberta

“Paula, thanks for your input on the Muhurta. It was presented so beautifully as well! I feel that you've selected a great day to put my home up for sale. It fits in with my plans just perfectly. I really enjoyed the details of why you selected this particular date and why the time of 10:30 a.m. was ideal. Thanks for your efforts on my behalf. I always enjoy your readings so much." Arlene K., Alberta

“I want to thank you for the Jyotish Basic Reading you did for me. I found it

thorough and thought provoking. Knowing more about my chart helps me to

understand various tendencies and personality traits that I have. It also explained

certain physical attributes. The suggestions you made regarding transitions were

put forward in a friendly manner and seemed practical. Overall, I find the

knowledge gained from the reading has created a feeling of joyfulness. Thanks

once again.” Geraldine J., Ontario

“In your Prashna Reading you mentioned health issues for a number of my

animals – horses and dogs in particular. (I have many of them and consider them

like family.) You encouraged me to prepare mentally and emotionally – just in

case. Though it was a little upsetting to hear at the time, I did have an opportunity

to think about it, and be easy with whatever may come. Within two weeks, two of

my prized horses developed a serious illness, and passed away within 24 hours.

Within a month one of my show dogs had passed away – again peacefully and

without pain. I’m very grateful for the preparation the reading gave me and the

grace and sensitivity with which you handled a very emotionally charged issue.”
