Foreword
It is my honour to share a few words on the English version of "Prashna Jyotish" by late Shri Chandrakant R. Bhatt, B.A. L.L.B. The author needs no introduction as his books "Nakshatra Chintamani" and "Further Light on the Nakshatra Chintamani" are very well received and regarded as the best K.P. books in the field of modern astrology. His first book "N akshatra Chintamani" in Gujarati language had been dedicated to Jyotish Marthand Prof. K.S. Krishnamurti despite the lack of mentioning K.P.
Many thanks and appreciations to Shri Kanak Bosmia, a competent K.P. astrologer and editor of the world's first free K. P. astrological e-magazine "KP E-zine" for translating and releasing Prashna Jyotish to the global audience in honour of his Guru late Shri Chandrakant R. Bhatt.
In the first theoretical part of Prashna Jyotish, the author has lucidly explained the main requirements of the K.P. astrology: casting a horary chart, house grouping by the cuspal sub lord, utility of ruling planets, significators, choice of fruitful significators in timing of events and more.
What makes Prashna Jyotish unique is its unparalleled wealth of depth of details. Practical part covers major life events or topics, such as health and longevity, financial and professional prospects, assets and properties, foreign travels and relocations, marriage and relationships, children and family matters, and much more. Under each topic, detail subject matters are discussed further. Professional topic, for instance, includes interviews and examinations, getting a desired job and promotion, employment opportunities and career changes, job relocation, leaving a job, retirement, reinstatement, independence business and partnership, and much more. For each subject matter, the author gives specific rules for judgment and then supplies consistent analysis of relevant cuspal sub lords, joint dasa period lords and transit. The result is one of the most comprehensive horary astrology books with support of eighty five case studies.
Prashna Jyotish is a unique K.P. reference book in predicting whether any life event of a native is promised or not by the relevant main cuspal sub lord; if it is promised, when it will happen by the joint period dasa-bhukti-antra-sookshma lords when transit agrees. It is based on the significations of the relevant cuspal sub lord and joint dasa period lords at all the three levels of planet, star and sub according to the sub lord theory as referenced to the K.P. Readers I to VI. The true K.P. principles and rules have been explained and applied in very clear, concise and consistent manner with support of over eighty five practical solved examples.
This book will be of great help to both horary and natal analysis of K.P. followers, and anyone interested in giving accurate predictions. A truly must read for any serious learner or practitioner of K.P. astrology.

Acknowledgments
Prashna Jyotish Part 1 & 2 was published in 1981 in Gujarati. These books were not available. I learnt KP through Late Shri Chandrakant R. Bhatt's Guajarati books. This is one of them. I never met Shri Chandrakant Kaka personally, but he is my 'Manas Guru'. I learnt KP like Eklaya from Late Shri Chandrakant R. Bhatt's Gujarti books. Since long back I thought to publish English translation of these books in honour my Guruji Late Shri Chandrakant R. Bhatt.
This is my first book that I am translating. I sincerely hope that it will be useful to everyone practicing K.P. system. In future I will translate other books of Late Shri Chandrakant R. Bhatt.
I thank all those who helped me in writing this book. I am particularly thankful to Shri Chandrakant R Bhatt's son, Shri Dr. Mayank C. Bhatt, who gave me permission to translate this book for benefit of all KP system followers.
I want to thank Shri R.Satish, Shri Tin Win and Shri Rangarajan Krishnamoorthy for reviewing all the chapters patiently and diligently, they were very prompt and sent back the updated draft the same day.
I am also thankful to my students Shri Mahesh Gohil for DTP work, Shri Sanganji and Shri Milanbhai Panchal for proof reading.
Lastly, without the blessing of my parents 1 would not have been able to complete this book. I will remain grateful to them always.

Important Note for Readers
1: In this book all Horary charts were prepared for Latitude 22 N 33'. Ayanamsha used for 1970 was 23.20' and then the ayanamsha was adjusted approximately for a particular year. Raphael's "Tables of Houses" was used for calculation.
2: I have worked out Sayana based Lagna Bhava calculations and deducted Ayanamsha for the corresponding year i.e. year 1981, I have used bhava cusps with my calculations. But if we calculate from Raphael's "Table of Houses", you may find some differences in calculations for the same horary number. Because these calculation were done some years ago and then I had changed the Ayanamsha, you would find sometimes, different cusps/sub lords from those given in this book. Please keep this important point in mind while reading this book.
3: Assume that querent has a horary question for child birth and gives horary number 45. For this question, if two astrologers cast the chart in two different cities, for example one astrologer in Ahmedabad and second in Chennai, the Deg. Mnt. of relevant bhava cusps will be different. One may predict positive result and second negative one. This is my experience and readers are advised to keep it in their mind.
4: If a horary chart is calculated approximately, the differences may be found in cusp Deg, Mnt, Sec. Please keep this in mind.
5: "A horary tables of houses" (for 1 to 249) by Shri R. E. Manu (Shri Rohini publications, 202, Road no. 7, Nehrunagar, Secunderabad 26). In this book it was found that the author made calculation for year 1976. I had checked it with Ayanamsha 23.25' for year 1976 and noted both matched. Ase is okay but other cusp calculations were not correct, so I request readers to be very careful when they use any "ready made" calculations.
6: In this book I have calculated for Latitude 22 N 33' and year 1970. For experience I have calculated some horary charts from Raphael's Tables of Houses, so do consider it also.
7: Some use 'Universal Table of Houses', some use Raphael's Tables of Houses', some others use simplified tables of houses. We found differences in all above mentioned tables. So readers have to be careful about the relevant bhava, if a change is found in the relevant bhava sub lord, after changing +/- one min. difference. Because if the sub lord is changed, then results also may change. Same thing may happen with planets. Many publications are available for ephemeris. We have found differences in various ephemeris, especially in Moon's Deg, Min. In dasa calculation one min. of difference in Moon's position can change the dasa days by 3 to 9. So please be careful in calculations of Moon's longitude.
8: If two persons take the same Tables of Houses and same Ephemeris, even then we have found the difference of about 2 min.
-
In calculations, some use logarithms, some use Shri R.E. Manu's 'Astrological tables for all'. Thus for the same horary number, same date, same time, same place, even then we have found differences in calculations of both cusp and antar dasa and so while giving a final judgment both give different opinions. Readers should take this also into consideration.
9: Due to all the reasons cited above, when readers go through anyone's article or book, at that time he should prepare the chart himself. In my observation in a few articles we have found correct Dasa and Bhukti dasa but Antar dasa was found mostly wrong. Also if we calculate with a given time we have found the wrong calculations of Moon's position. So I request the readers to verify all the details while reading any article/book.
To make a mistake is very common and human too, so all readers will understand my stressing this aspect, based on my personal experience.

Chapter 1
Constellation (Nakshatra)
The zodiac of 360 is divided into three equal parts. First 120 is Aries 0 to Cancer 30, second 120 is Leo 0 to Scorpio 30, Third 120 is Sagittarius 0 to Pisces 30. The zodiac of 360 is divided into three equal parts. Each part contains 120. lt consists of nine equal sections. Each section contains 13.20' or 800'. lt begins from 0 Aries. Each section is known as Nakshatra or Constellation or Star. There are 27 Nakshatras or Constellations or Stars in the whole Zodiac. According to Vimshottari Dasa System, each Nakshatra or Constellation or Star is ruled in turn by the nine planets in the order of Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury. This order is fixed and not changeable. Each planet rules three N akshatras or Constellations or Stars and the ruling planet is called the Nakshatra Lord or Constellation Lord or Star Lord. ln short we may use the term 'Star' instead of 'Star lord' etc throughout this book. Each planet rules three N akshatras or Constellations or Stars. Below are the tables of planets which rule each 13 20' of each Sign.

Uttarbhadrapada Saturn Pisces 03.20' to 16.40'
Reva ti Mercury Pisces 16 .40' to 30. 00'
For example, in a chart Saturn is in Capricorn 27.05' and Jupiter is in Aquarius 4 .35'. Both planets are between Capricorn 23.20' to 30 .00' up to Aquarius 00.00' to 6.40'. That means that both planets are in different signs, but the same Nakshatra or Constellation or Star and Nakshatra Lord or Constellation Lord or Star Lord is Mars. In other words, Saturn and Jupiter are in Mars N akshatras or Constellations or Stars. From now we may use the term 'Star' instead of Nakshatra Lord or Constellation Lord or Star Lord throughout this book. Let us understand by second example, Sun is in Pisces 17 .20' in a chart. It is between 16.40' To 30 in Pisces sign. So Sun is in the Star of Mercury.

Chapter 2 Sub Constellation (Up-Nakshatra)
In Nakshatra system each Nakshatra or Constellation or Star is subdivided into nine parts. This Subdivision is called 'Sub'. It is based on the following formula: " Dasa year of each planet * The total number of Vimshottari Dasa years X Star area = The longitude or extent or area of the Sub for each planet in any Star or Constellation or Nakshatra."
The planet ruling the longitude or extent or area of the 'sub' in any Nakshatra or Constellation or Star is called the Sub N akshatra Lord or Sub Constellation Lord or Sub Star Lord or Sub Lord. In short we may use the term "Sub" instead of Sub Lord through out this book. The above formula of deriving the "Sub" is illustrated as under.
Planet Dasa Vimsottari Star Area Sub Area Yr. Dasa Yr. Min.
Ke tu 7 .:. 120 x 800' o 46' 40" Venus 20 .:. 120 x 800' 2 13' 20" Sun 6 .:. 120 x 800' o 40' 00" Moon 10 ..:. 120 x 800' .. 1 06' 40" Mars 7 .:. 120 x 800' .. o 46' 40" Rahu 18 -- 120 x 800' "' 20 00' 00" Jupiter 16 ..:. 120 x 800' "' 10 46' 40" Saturn 19 ..:. 120 x 800' - 2 06' 40" Mercury 17 - 120 x 800' - lo 53' 20"
130 20' 00" Each Star has 13.20' area, and in each star, sub areas come always the same as given in the above table. Each star has nine subs. 27 stars have been sub-divided into 243 subs in total. But there are 6 subs repeated in Taurus Rahu sub, Cancer Moon sub, Virgo Rahu sub, Scorpio Moon sub, Capricorn Rahu sub and Pisces Moon sub. So totally we have 249 subs. The following tables show the star and the sub of each cuspal sign of 12 houses and of each planet in this birth or horary map.

Explanation of Table A, B, C & D The table A is meant for Aries, Leo and Sagittarius; the table B for Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn; the table C for Gemini, Libra and Aquarius and the table D for Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. In the beginning of each table the Star area of each planet in each sign is given e.g. in the table A Ketu star area extends from 0 to 13.20' in Aries or Leo or Sagittarius and in the tables B and C Mars star extends from 23.20' Taurus or Virgo or Capricorn to 6 .40' Gemini or Libra or Aquarius and so on with other star areas. Each table contains four main columns. The Column 1 contains Sign, Sign Lord SB Serial No., for example in table A, Sign Aries is written first; Sign lord Mars is marked below Aries; Serial No.'s 1 to 22 are mentioned below Mars and so on with the other Signs, Sign Lords & Serial No.'s. The Column 2 shows the Star Lord, Column 3 the Sub Lord and the Column 4 contains the commencing position of each Sub Lord in the Star area of each planet.
Example : ln the table A in the Star area Ketu in Aries or Leo or Sagittarius, the Sub of Ketu begins from 0 .00" and ends at 0 .46' .40". So the Sub of Venus starts at 0.46'.40", add 2.l3'.20"(Sub area of Venus) and you get the starting position of Sun Sub at 3 .00' .00", add 0 .40' .O" (Sub area of Sun), then the Sub of Moon starts at 3 .40' .O" in Aries or Leo or Sagittarius. Repeat this procedure and the commencing position for all Subs in each star in each sign will be obtained.
249 Subs and their Serial Numbers 27 stars have been sub divided into 243 subs. Referring to the Tables A, B, C and D, in six cases the same star and the same sub will be found in the adjoining signs e.g. Sun Star Rahu Sub in Aries or Leo or Sagittarius 29.13'.20" to 30 (Table A) goes on up to Taurus or Virgo or Capricorn 1.13'.20" (Table B). Jupiter star Moon sub in Gemini or Libra or Aquarius 29.26'.40" to 30 (Table C) extends up to Cancer or Scorpio or Pisces 0 .33' .20" (Table D). Take these six subdivisions into account and you will get 249 subdivisions in total. Thus the Zodiac is divided into 249 parts. Each part has been given a serial number. In Aries the serial no. starts from 1 and ends at 22; in Taurus from 23 to 41; in Gemini from 42 to 62; in Cancer from 63 to 83 and in Leo from 84 to 105 and so on. Each serial no. mentions the sign, the sign lord, the star lord, the sub lord and the commencing position of each sub. The sign lord remains constant for the whole sign. These serial numbers are very useful in erecting horary maps. This will be discussed later on. From these tables you can say that each degree and minute of the Zodiac is ruled by the sign lord, the star lord and the sub lord. In other words, each degree and minute is jointly ruled, governed or operated by three planets, out of which one becomes the sign lord, the other is the star lord and the third is the sub lord. For instance in the Table A the serial no. 6 shows that Aries 5.33'.20" is jointly ruled or governed or operated by Mars (as the sign lord); by Ketu (as the star lord) and by Rahu (as the sub lord). The serial no. 98 indicates that Leo 20.6'.40" is jointly operated by Sun (as
22 PRASHNA JYOTISH
-
the sign lord), Venus (as the star Lord) and Jupiter (as the sub lord). The serial no. 187 denotes that the Sagittarius 28 .26'40" is jointly governed by Jupiter (as the sign lord), Sun (as the star lord) and Mars (as the sub lord). The serial nos. in the Tables B, C and D may be understood in the same way as explained above.
Sub lord: For example in the chart, Sun is in Aries 10.49', thus in table A, under Aries, under number 8 we found that sign lord Mars, Star lord Ketu and Sub lord Saturn. In other word we can say Sun is in the star of Ketu and sub of Saturn. If Venus is in Pisces 10.9', thus in table D, under Pisces, under number 240 we fund that sign lord Jupiter, Star lord Saturn and Sub lord Jupiter. In other word we can say Venus is in the star of Saturn and sub of Jupiter. We can find sub lord of any cusp or planet as given in the example.

Chapter 3 Example Horary Maps
Erecting the Horary Map (a) When a person consults you, ask him to give a number between I and 249. The number given is taken as the Ase. Then from the number find out the sign, star and sub. Note the commencing position in degree, minute and second of this number. You have to erect the map and calculate the other 11 cusps for the latitude of the place from where you judge the query. Work out the positions of the planets for the time at which you start erecting the map for judgment. The method of finding out the positions of the other 11 cusps of the houses is explained in the example given here under.
(b) Even when question is asked from any corner of world, place of horary must be the place where astrologer is erecting the chart. Take the longitude and latitude of place of horary at the start of calculation.
Note down planetary position and put it in calculated horary chart, of which day and time astrologer start work on horary calculations.
Example Suppose you want to find out the pos1t10n of the cusps of the houses for the number 45 out of 249 for the year 1980. Place of judgement is Ahmedbad 23 N 02', 72 E 37'.
Now look at the Table C for Subs in Nakshatra System in the chapter 2. (Page -20) Note the particulars about the serial no. 45 as under:
Serial No Sign Sign lord Star lord
45 Gemini Mercury Mar
Sub lord
Sun
Commencing position 04 53' 20"
Take Gemini 04.53'.20" as the Ase, according to the Nirayana system. We have to calculate the other 11 cusps for the latitude of the place from where we judge the query, from Raphael's Tables of Houses which is according to the Sayana system. So proceed as under: Ase. for the horary No. 45 Add Ayanamsa for 1980 and get the Sayana Ase.
(a) Gemini 04.53'.20" + Ayanamsa 23 .29' .00" = Gemini 28.22'.20" Refer to Raphael's Tables of Houses and open the page of Lat. 23 N 33' for Ahmedabad 23 N 2', the place of judgment.
(b) Ase. Gemini 28 .22' .20" falls between the Ase. degrees. Gemini 27 .40' .00" Gemini 28 .35' .00"
(c) Write down the cusps given in the row of Gemini 28.35' and 27.40'. Subtract the lesser from the greater and reduce the difference to minutes.

These are the Sayana cusps for the horary number 45. Prepare cusps of 12 houses for every number between 1 and 249 in this manner. These cusps will be the Sayana cusps for the houses 10, 11, 12, 2 and 3. So far as the Ase. is concerned, keep the commencing position of the Sub according to the Nirayana system as it is e.g. for the number 45, keep Gemini 04.53'.20" as it is.
The Sayana cusps (for the houses 10, 11, 12, 2 and 3) for all 249 numbers will remain constant for any year. For getting the Nirayana cusps you have to deduct the Ayanamsa for the required year. So it is desirable to keep a ready reckoner for the place of your permanent stay. This will save much of your time.

You have to work out only the positions of the planets for the time of judging the query and to insert them in the map. Then the horary map is ready for judgment.
Second method for easy horary calculation : 1) Ase. for the horary No. 45 is Gemini 04.53'.20". Add Ayanamsa for 1980 and get the Sayana Ase. Such as, Gemini 04.53'.20" + Ayanamsa 23 .29' .00" = Gemini 28.22'.20"
Refer to Raphael's Tables of Houses and open the page of Lat. 22N 33'. For Ahmedabad 23 N 02', which is place ofjudgment. Find nearest degree to Ase. A) The Example Horary chart is for Gemini Lagna. As mentioned before, the first Cusp is Gemini 4 .53.20" i.e. Lagna beginning point. In an anti-clockwise direction 02-28-3 l is second Cusp; 02 indicates Gemini; 28 is degree and 31 is minute. In this way all the 12 cusps have been written in the above chart.
B) If planet's longitude is less than the cuspal degree, we
have to place that planet behind the cusp; in this horary chart the 5th cuspal degree is 27 Vi 17' and Saturn is in 13 Vi 24', so we need to write Saturn behind this cuspal degree. Rahu is in Cancer 21.13' and the third cuspal

degree is Cancer 24. 17', so we have to mention Rahu behind third cuspal degree, and it is said that Rahu is in the 2nd house, not in 3rd house.
C) If any planet is located within 5 degrees of the cuspal degree of a house, then that planet excerts its influence on both the houses. For example the 3rd Cusp is Cancer 24.17' and Rahu is in Cancer 2 1 . 13'. The deference between positions of Rahu and 3rd Cusp is approx 3 degress. So in this situation Rahu gives the results of both the 2nd and the 3rd houses. Like this Ketu in 8th cusp and near
to gtl so Ketu gives the results of both the 8th and the 9th houses.
D) If a planet's longitude is more than the cuspal degree, we have to place that planet after the cusp; in this horary chart the 6th cuspal degree is 7.02'.17" and Sun is in 7.05'.21", so we need to write Sun after this cuspal degree. We can say that Sun is in the 6th house.
E) In this chart it is not fixed for every house to have 30 degrees. Sometimes it will be less than 30 degre"s and at times it will be more than 30 degrees. In this norary example 7th house commences from Sagittarius 4.53'.20" and extends up to Sagittarius 28 .31 '. So the 7th house is of 23 .37' .40" dimension, not exact 30 degrees. Ifwe check 12th house, it begins from Taurus 2.17' and ends at Gemini 4 .53' .20", and its dimension is 32.36'.20". This shows us that it is not fixed for each and every bhava to have 30 degrees of equal dimensions. Also the 5th house commences from Virgo 27. 17' and extends up to Scorpio 2. 17', and Libra comes within this 5th house, and we can say that Libra is Galit or 'intercepted' sign.
F) Sign lord of the beginning position of house is called as house (bhava) lord or bhavesh. In our example horary chart, 7th cusp begins from Sagittarius 4.53'.20', 8th cusp from Sagittarius 28.31' and Uth cusp from Pisces 27. 17'. So we can say that 7, 8 and 1 l'h house lord or bhavesh is Jupiter. In this way 9th cusp is in Capricorn 24.17' and 10th cusp in Aquarius 23.17', so we can say that lord of 9th and 10th houses is Saturn. 4th cusp is in Leo 24. 17', so we can say that 4th lord or bhvesh is Sun.
G) Planet is in Bhava or Cusp call as occupant. In our example horary chart, Jupiter and Saturn is in 4th So we can say that Jupiter and Saturn occupant of 4th. Mercury and Venus is in 5th So we can say that Mercury and Venus occupant of 5th. Like this Mars in 7th so we can say Mars is occupant of 7th.

Chapter 5 Bhava Nirdeshak (House Significators)
Generally planet give result of its occupation in bhava, owner of bhava, and aspect on bhava, Karaka of related bhava are considered as signification of planet. In the horoscope the sign is on the cusp of each house. A planet always occupies the sign and its strength is determined according as it occupies its own sign, exalted sign or debilitated sign. So the occupant in a sign is stronger than the owner of the sign. The sign is the I/12th part of the Zodiac, while the Constellation or Star is the l/27'h part of the Zodiac. So the Constellation or Star is stronger than the sign. Hence the planet in the star is stronger than its Star lord (which may be either the occupant or the owner of the sign). The occupant (planet) in a sign mostly gives the results of the house occupied by it. So the planet in the star better gives the results of the house occupied by its star lord. Keeping these principles in mind, the order of strength of the significators of each house should be determined as under:
Selection of significator: 1) A planet in the star of the occupant of a house is stronger than the occupant. So it should be given first preference as a significator of that house, because it is strongest to give the results of the house occupied by its Star lord. The occupant remains as a weak significator of that house.
2) If there is no planet in the occupant's Star, the occupant becomes the strong significator of that house and it is strong to give the results of that house. So the second preference should be given to the occupant of that house.
3) If the house is vacant, the planet in the star of the owner of a house is stronger than the owner. So it becomes a strong significator of that house and it is strong to give the results of that house. Hence the third preference should be given to the planet in the owner's star and the owner remains a weak significator of that house.
4) If the house is vacant and if there is no planet in the owner's star, the owner itself becomes the strong significator of that house and it is strong to give the results of that house. So the 4th preference should be given to the owner of that house.
5) (a) A planet in conj. or association with, or aspected by a significator gives the results of the house or houses denoted by that significator. So the last preference should be given to the planet in conj. or aspect with that significator. (b) A planet's star lord aspecting the house may be considered as the significator of that house. For example planet A is in the star of B, and B aspects 11, thus planet A is significator of 11.

Chapter 6 Rahu-Ketu
1. Rahu-Ketu as agent Rahu or Ketu is not allotted the ownership of any sign. It only occupies the sign in a house. So Rahu or Ketu works as an agent or representative of the planet with whom it is in conj. or aspect; the owner of the sign in which it is placed; and also star lord of Rahu-Ketu. So when Rahu or Ketu becomes agent of any planet we have to consider Rahu or Ketu in place of that planet because Rahu or Ketu is more powerful than any other planet.
2. Rahu & Ketu and their significance Rahu or Ketu works as an agent or representative of the significators with whom it is in conj. or aspect; or the owner of the sign of significators in which it is placed, and gives the results of significators as per given order.
Example Horary chart No. 1: (Page No: 27) Rahu is aspected by Mars which owns 6 and occupies 7. So it will indicate the matters of the houses 6, 7 as an agent of Mars. Ketu is in Capricorn sign, so Ketu give the results of Saturn, i.e. 9, 10 as house lord and 4 as occupant. Ketu is aspected by Jupiter, which owns 7, 8, 11 and occupies 4. So it will indicate the matters of the houses 7, 8, 11, 4 as an agent of Jupiter.

Chapter 7 General Strength of a Planet
Strength by Occupant A planet mostly gives the results of the house occupied by it and its owner comes next in order. Of the houses the angles stand first in strength, next the succeedents and then the cadents. The owner of the house 6, 8 or 12 (as counted from any particular house to be judged) becomes weak, evil or malefic in effects.
Strength by sign: The nature of the sign (e.g. cardinal or movable, fixed, or common or mutable; fiery, earthy, airy or watery; fruitful or barren; human or bestial; mute or voice; masculine or feminine etc) on the cusp and that occupied by a planet influences the affairs of the house and the planet.
Strength by aspect A planet in conj. or association with, or aspected by a malefic (i.e. the owner of 6, 8 or 12) becomes weak or afflicted. An aspecting planet modifies the results of the house matters according as it is a natural benefic or malefic, friendly or inimical. In this star system we have to consider only Vedic aspect (i.e. Rasi to Rasi).
In stellar system Planet in the star of strong planet by owner or occupant or sign or aspect it will gives result of its star lord. If planet is in the star of weak planet, planet gives weak result of its star lord.

Chapter 8 A planet or house 'Connected With'
1. A planet connected with another planet (a). Suppose Mercury occupies Aries or Scorpio; or (b) it is in the star or sub of Mars; or (c) it is in conj. with or aspected by Mars, then it may be said that Mercury is connected with Mars.
2. A planet connected with any house (a) Suppose Mercury is the owner or Star lord or Sub lord of the 6th cusp; or (b) it occupies the 6th house; or (c) it aspects the 6th house; or (d) it is in the star or sub of the occupant of the 6th house; or (e) it is in the star or sub of the owner of the 6th house; or (J) it is in conj. with or aspected by the owner of the 6th house, then it may be said that Mercury is connected with the 6th house.
3. A house or its owner connected with the house 6, 8 or 12 (a) Suppose the owner of 6, 8 or 12 occupies or aspects the 1st house, then it may be said that the 1st house is connected with the house 6, 8 or 12. (b) 1. Suppose the owner of the 1st house (Lagnesh) occupies the house 6, 8 or 12; or 2. it is in the star of the owner of the house 6, 8 or 12; or 3. it is in conj. with or aspected by the owner of the house 6, 8 or 12, then it may be said that the owner of the 1st house (Lagnesh) is connected with the house 6, 8 or 12.
1. Difference between signification by star and sub. Planet gives result of star and sub indicating house. The difference between the two can be explained thus: Suppose in Capricorn Lagna, Sun is owner of 8 and occupant of 6. Sun is in the star of Jupiter. Jupiter is owner of 3, 12 and occupant of 10th. Sun is in the sub of Saturn. Saturn is owner of 1, 2 and occupant of 4th. We mention above Sun as: Sun is significator of 10, 3, 12 and connected with 8, 6, 1, 2, 4.

Chapter 10 Significator and its Sub Lord
1. The significator shows the source of an event. The matters especially of the house occupied and owned by it serve as the source.
2. The significator gives the results of its star lord. So the star lord becomes the indicator of the matters of the house occupied and owned by it and also of the house aspected by it.
3. The sub lord of the significator is the deciding factor regarding the matters of the star lord. If the sub lord is harmonious to the matters indicated by the star lord, the significator gives favourable results. If the sub lord is detrimental to the matters indicated by the star lord, the significator gives unfavourable results.
4. The significator gives during its period (Dasa), sub period (Bhukti) or inter (Antra) period the results of its star lord. Or, the results of the star lord are experienced during the joint period (i.e. during the period (Dasa), sub period (Bhukti) and inter period (Antra)) of the significator, its star lord and its sub lord. For example if we are looking for marriage, we have to take significators of 2, 7, 11 houses (planets in the star of occupant or owners of 2, 7, 11). If the sub lord of the above mentioned signficators is connected with 2, 7, I I houses, then only these significators give marriage during the joint period of Dasa, Bhukti, Antra of relevant significators. But if this sub lord signifies only 1, 6, 10 (12th from 2, 7, 11 - No marriage), then these significators never give marriage during the joint period of Dasa, Bhukti, Antra. Check "houses for subject matters" in the previous Chapter-9 given in the table.
5. In short, the significator denotes the time when it will give the results of its star lord. The sub lord of the significator shows whether these results will be favourable or unfavourable.
6. Any relevant planet, become an owner of 6, 8, 12 from relevant cusp, or occupant of 6, 8, 12 cusp from relevant cusp, then this planet not gives result during joint period of Dasa, Bhukti, Antra of relevant significators. But consider this condition after thinking all the aspect of chart.
7. If the star lord of a signficator is not powerful, then the significator becomes weak, and if its sub lord also weak, then this significator becomes weaker.

Chapter 11 Cuspal Sub Lord and its Subject Matter
Significance of the cuspal sub lord We have seen in Chapter- 9 "Houses for Subject Matters" to judge an event. We have to check more than one houses. To judge that event we need to consider the sub lord of main house (bhava). For example, for longevity 1st, for disease 6th, for education 4th, for marriage 7th house etc.
The cuspal sub lord of a house indicates whether the matter governed by that house is promised or denied. If the cuspal sub lord of that house is the significator of that house or any one of the houses under consideration, the matter governed by that house will be promised.
As each house denotes several particular matters, the chief governor of the matter to be judged, For example, Saturn for Longevity, Mercury and Jupiter for Education, Mars for house, Saturn for land, Venus for marriage, Moon and Mercury for traveling, Sun for business and authority etc, may be taken into consideration. If it is connected with the house or any one of the houses under consideration, especially with the star lord of the cuspal sub lord, it is desirable. In short whether the matter governed by that house is promised or denied will be decided by relevant cusp sub lord. Significators of relevant cusp decided when native get the result.

Explanation: If the cuspal sub lord of the main house (mentioned in the column 1) be the significator (in the star of occupant or owner) of the house or houses (mentioned in the column 2), then only during the joint period of the significators of the house or houses (mentioned in the column 3), the results of the expected matter (shown in the column 4) are experienced.

Chapter 13 Sub Lord - Some Points to Consider
Sometimes it happens that the cuspal sub lord of the main house under consideration is not deposited in the star of occupant or of the owner of relevant house or houses. Sometimes Rahu and Ketu are not deposited in relevant house or houses. But the cuspal sub lord, its star lord and its sub lord; also Rahu or Ketu are connected with relevant house(s). In such cases one needs to use common sense before coming to any conclusion.
Transit At the time of event Sun, Moon or/and joint period rulers are generally found to be transiting in the star or sub of the same joint period ruler or rulers (i.e. in the star or sub of the period, sub period, inter period or/and sookshma period ruler.)
Moon 1)
2)
3)
4)
Moon is the mind. So in the horary map the mind of the querent is shown by the position of Moon and it helps in knowing the nature of the question asked. Generally Moon or its Star Lord or its Sub lord occupies or owns the house under query; or Moon is connected with, or by aspect, from the owner or occupant of that house or from the chief governor (karaka) of the matter asked. If lord of 6, 8, 12 is connected with Moon, then mind of querent is not clear about question, and if Saturn is connected with Moon, querent is hiding something.
Cuspal Sub lord 1) The cuspal sub lord of a house under query indicates whether the matter
signified by that house is promised or not. 2) The matter is promised if the cuspal sub lord is the significator (i.e. in
the star of the occupant or the owner) of that house or any one of the houses under consideration.
3) In horary the matter is promised if the cuspal sub lord or its sub star lord is direct, if the cuspal sub lord or its sub star lord is retrograde but the cuspal sub lord becomes a strong significator, the matter is promised when they get direct in motion.
4) As each house denotes several particular matters, the chief governor of the matter under query may be taken into account and it should be connected with the star lord of the cuspal sub lord of the house under query.
Lagoa 1)
40
and 11th Cuspal sub lord In the horary map the Ase. indicates the efforts of the querent; while the 11th cusp shows the fulfillment of desires or success in general. So if the cuspal sub lord of the Ase. or the 11th cusp be the significator of the matter asked, the querent gets success in general.
PRASHNA JYOTISH
-
2) If the cu spa! sub lord of the Ase. or the I I'h cusp be the occupant of the house I, 2, 3, 6, 10 or 11; or if it is in the star of the occupant of the house I, 2, 3, 6, 10 or 11, the querent gets success, in all undertakings. [The Ase. (denotes success in one's efforts); 2nd (monetary gain); 3rd (help from others); 6th (being 12 to 7 loss to the other and gain to the querent); 10th (reputation) and 11"' (stands for profit). So these houses are beneficial to the querent in general.]
Ruling Planet: I) Note the time and day when a question is put to you or when you take
the horoscope for analysis and judgment. The day begins from Sunrise. Sun governs Sunday, Moon governs Monday, Mars governs Tuesday, Mercury governs Wednesday, Jupiter governs Thursday, Venus governs Friday and Saturn governs Saturday.
2) A) The sign lord of the Ase, the star lord of the Ase, at the time of query or judgment. B) The sign lord of Moon, the star lord of Moon at the time of query or judgment. C) The day lord
These five planets are called the 'Ruling Planets'. 3) A) If Rahu or Ketu is in conj. or aspect with the ruling planet; or
B) If it occupies the sign owned by the ruling planet. Rahu or Ketu should be included as the ruling planet.
4) A) Among the ruling planets the Ase's star lord; the Ase's sign lord,, Moon's star lord, Moon's sign lord and the day lord are in order of preference. B) The ruling planet which is in the star or sub of a retrograde
planet should be omitted.
Significator of relevant bhava: Significator of relevant bhava indicate when event will be materialised. Draw table as we discuss in Part-1; chapter 5 page 24.
In the star of occupant
(A)
Occupant (B)
In the star of Owner owner (D)
(C)
If star lord or sub lord of above significators are in direct motion then during its joint period one can get desire result. So if any significator is in the star and sub of retrograde planet will be omit as significator.
Joint Period: During joint period of above significator one can get desire result when transit agrees. Find out the common planet from significator and RPs. Among these common planets those planets that are significator of Joint cuspal point (Rasi lord -Star lord-Sub lord), relevant cusp's sub lord and Joint period lord then this planet gives result when transit agree.
PRASHNA JYOTISH 41
-
It is observe that retro planet gives result when it get direct or planet when become direct at same deg. Mnt. Sec as in retro motion at the time of horary map. Analysis of retrograde planet depends on individual case and type of Question. In each case astrologer has to use his own commonsense.
Transit: At the time of event, Sun, Moon and joint period lords traveling in the joint period lord's star or sub. Or traveling in the star lord of relevant bhava's significator.

Sub sub in each Sub
Chapter 14 Sub-Sub
Each 'sub' is further divided into nine parts. This sub division is termed as 'sub sub'. It is based on the following formula :-"Each sub area x Dasa years of each planet - the total number of Vimshottari dasa years = The longitude or extent or area of 'Sub sub 'for each planet in each 'Sub'."
Example: The above formula of deriving 'Sub sub' in each 'Sub' is illustrated as under
1. The sub area of Ketu is 0 46' 40". In sub Ketu, Area ofsub sub Venus = 00.46'.40" x 20 + 120 = 00.07'.47"
2. The sub area of Venus is 2 13' 20". In sub Venus, Area ofsub sub Mer = 02.13'.20"x 17 - 120 = 00.18'.53"
3. The sub area of Sun is 0 40' 00". In sub Sun, Area of sub sub Jup = 00.40'.00" x 16 + 120 = 00.05'.20"
4. The sub area of Moon is 1 06' 40". In sub Moon, Area ofsub sub Ketu = 01.06'.40" x 7 - 120 = 00.03'.54"
5. The sub area of Mars is 0 46' 40". In sub Mars, Area of sub sub Moon = 00.46'.40" x 10 +120 = 00.03'.54"
6. The sub area of Rahu is 2 00' 00". In sub Rahu, Area ofsub sub Saturn= 02.00'.00" x 19 +120 = 00.19'.00"
7. The sub area of Jupiter is 1 46' 40". In sub Jupiter, Area of sub sub Sun = 01 .46' .40" x 6 + 120 = 00 .05' .20"
8. The sub area of Saturn is 2 06' 40". In sub Sun, Area of sub sub Rahu = 02 .06' .40" x 18 +120 = OOM9' .00"
9. The sub area of Mercury is 1 53' 20". In sub Sun, Area ofsub sub Mars = 01.53'.20"x 7 -120 = 00.06'.37"
Obtain the area of 'sub sub' for all planets in each 'sub' in this way. For benefit of readers the tables showing A) sub sub area in each sub and B) Stars, Subs and Sub subs are given on next pages:
