Control, Speed and Power are the main objectives in describing the focus of our dedicated design team when framing up the KA Sail Killer for 2018, our killer wave weapon!

CONTROL!The 5-batten set-up of the KA KILLER guarantees maximum stability and wind range, allowing you to commit your focus 100% to riding the wave!

For 2018, we have completely redesigned the KILLER! With refined placement of materials to reduce swing weight, the 2018 KILLER is as light as ever, but a 2nd vertical

shaping panel was re-introduced for improved draft stability. Also, a 4 mil X-Ply has been introduced to the bottom panel for maximum durability.

The outline of KILLER has been “tweaked” with leech scallops which have been added to minimise any leech flutter when sailing overpowered. A leech cut-away introdu-ced just below batten four increases the reflex at this batten, resulting in a softer transition of power when sheeting in and better control in rough water.

KILLER comes in 2 different constructions: blue/yellow with a Monofilm window, which seriously improves your vision when you are sailing DTL, looking into the setting sun. Perfect for when you’re out all alone

Meet the KA Sail KAMIKAZE! With a much more lively look and feel, the KAMIKAZE is in our 4 batten wave sail offering. If you are new school cool, then this is definitely the sail for you!

Following up on a highly successful first year for the KAMIKAZE in 2017, we have made a couple of minor modifications for 2018 to further enhance the performance of this sail. The outline has been “tweaked”

with leech scallops added to minimise any leech flutter when sailing overpowered.

Leech cutaway was introduced below batten number 3, to increase the reflex at this batten resulting in a softer transition of power when sheeting in and in better control in rough water.

THROW-AROUND PERSONAKAMIKAZE has a shorter and more com-pact profile compared to the KILLER and a bit less built-in foil shape for a more “throw-around” persona. With some added luff curve which has seriously improved on the sails’ wind range, the front of the sail is allowed to fill up more. Boom and mast lengths deliver a more compact sail than the KILLER.

When we first introduced KAMIKAZE to our range in 2017, the KRYPTONITE designs were obviously at the basis for this sail. With a dynamic leech and crisp gust response, the KAMIKAZE will without a doubt again deliver an engaging ride that will put you in the box seat!

DRAFT LOCKAramid Draft Lock clew stringers help sta-bilize draft and provide a stronger more responsive clew. The use of our hi-tech tri-axial 2 ply laminate in the top panels of the sail keeps the swing weight down. A 7 mil Monofilm window provides a crystal clear vision and a crisp gust response. The window in the KAMIKAZE Red is in X-ply for those who are looking for the added se-curity of a 100% X-ply construction and a softer feel.

When comparing KAMIKAZE and KILLER, the first is a better choice for sailors under 85 kilograms or for those who preferably sail in more stable, less gusty winds. For heavier riders, generally KILLER offers more power and more stability in gusty “on/off” conditions.

HARSH CONSTRUCTIONKAOS comes in only one construction for the 2018 season, offered in a cool and very noticeable red and yellow colour combina-tion.

Here, we have chosen to use a Dacron panel for instant de-powering, lightweight tri-axial X-ply for further weight reducti-on and a tough Monofilm window panel which provides a crystal clear vision.

SMOOTH ROTATION & NEUTRAL HANDLING

The moderate seam shaping balances power with light handling, essential for Freestyle moves.

A smooth rotation of the sail and neutral handling is guaranteed by the moderate luff curve.

Main features of the KAOS include a stainless steel triple tack pulley for super smooth downhauling and strong and light-weight webbing.

KAOS also offers a full range of abrasion resistance features, like Aramid foot and tip protection, Kevlar reinforced head moulding and batten end protectors.

Some of the simple features include e.g. sharp-looking details and eye-catching new-school-cool graphics.

WIPE-OUT WIZZARDThe clew reinforcements were also improved upon to ensure the ability of the KAOS to survive even the most harshest of wipe-outs!

On the other hand, the use of high-tech materials in the luff and leech has obviously reduced weight to the minimum.

KULT sail sizes 6.4 and 7.0 have been designed in a 6 batten set-up while the smaller KULTs have 5 battens.

The extra batten in the larger sizes helps to improve the stability in the sail’s profile and the use of lighter materials in the head reduces swing weight, providing a lighter feeling when sailing and better control over the entire rig.

LOW-DOWN POWER!Generous seam shaping down in the bottom half of the foil continues to provide the KULT with ample low-down power, and also gives the sail just enough foil tension to effectuate high speed stability, yet the KULT is soft enough to allow for snappy maneuvers.

Sizes 6.4 and 7.0 have had the luff round reduced by 10% for 2018, resulting in easier pumping and a softer overall ergo-nomic character. This also aids threading the mast when rigging and de-rigging.

ARAMID DRAFT LOCKInternal aramid fibres in the high load areas combined with KA Sail’s renowned Aramid Draft Lock System maintain the sail’s foil shape when fully stressed, just as the designers meant it.

The Aramid Draft Lock System is compri-sed of uni-directional aramid fibre strips running radially from the clew.

We created a more compact outline, which we have been testing in our Race and Slalom sails for several years now.

THE SECRET OF SPEED However, the real secret of this sail’s success is the progressive leech twist and slippery upper foil profile that reduce drag and deliver a blistering top end speed.

DRAFT STABILITYThe foil tension is grafted for excellent draft stability when overpowered, yet the handling is soft enough for effortless maneuvers and easy pumping.

The sail can be easily locked down forstraight down the line blasting and is extremely well balanced and beautifully predictable throughout the transitions.

AN INTELLIGENT MATERIAL MIXThe KOYOTE displays the perfect combi-nation of composite tubes and glass rod battens, which maintain the draft location in the sail perfectly.

An intelligent mix of X-ply and Monofilm materials in the construction of the sail combines durability with a crisp lively feel and blistering acceleration.

INCREASED LONGEVITYAbrasion resistance enablers such as for instance the moulded soft edges on the foot and cross-over battens, the batten end-protectors and a twin ply Dacron head panel each increase the sail’s longevity.

BLISTERING SPEED & ACCELERATION

It’s all about the right combination!

The KONCEPT combines the blistering top speed and acceleration of a full-blooded race sail with the user friendliness of a freeride sail.

LIGHTWEIGHT ERGONOMICSThanks to the lightweight ergonomics of the KONCEPT, you’ll hardly know it’s the-re when you are blasting down your lo-cal speed strip and setting new personal speed records.

STABILITY AND 3 CAMSWith the 3 camber set-up, the KONCEPT offers perfect balance and stability you would certainly expect from a super high performance race sail without it becoming a monster, only giants can hang on to.

This is all achieved by a combination of reasonably high foil tension, 3 cams, 7 carbon composite battens and a

moderately wide luff sleeve in super lightweight hi-tech 2 mil tri-axial X-ply.

CHANGES FOR 2018The 2017 Koncepts were working so well already, we had difficulty finding much we could improve upon in this sail. However, we did make some minor changes which proved very worthwhile in testing. For 2018, sizes 6.2 and down gained a little more seam shaping at battens 5 and 6 to improve drive and bottom end power.

Furthermore, twist was increased at batten 4 to improve top end, internal reinforcements were added, engineering and materials were further examined and some changes were made to reduce weight.

We have also modified the SDM cambers to improve rotation and have enhanced the batten materials.

LIGHTWEIGHT ERGONOMICSWe have used extra hi-tech 2 mil tri-axial laminate to the upper leech area which reduces swing weight, enhancing the lightweight ergonomics of the sail. Addition of extra luff round and seam shaping in the lower foil of the KONCEPT will create a more locked-in feeling and a more balanced sail.

SPEED OPTIMISED PROFILEKONCEPT sizes 4.2 to 6.2 are optimised for speed sailing with more shape in the lower

foil, while the 6.6 to 9.5 are more Slalom oriented and faster cross wind.

RDM VS SDM CAMBERS2018 KONCEPT sizes 5.4 up to 9.5 are delivered with standard SDM cambers; sizes 5.0 and down are supplied with RDM cams. A replacement set is available to make the switch between SDM and RDM.

KONCEPT, THE SCIENCE OF SPEED!!!


Rather than making massive radical changes to the KA.RACE for 2018, we decided to improve on the highly successful 2017 design by means of multiple small tweaks and changes, that all combined push the perfor-mance level even higher.

We had a good look at the panel lay-outs and internal reinforcements. Also, we examined engineering and materials and made some changes to reduce weight. SDM cambers were modified to improve rotation and we enhanced the batten materials. Furthermore, we added some minor seam shape adjustments to improve tension.

Our vision for the flagship sail of the KA Sail performance range was quite simple: create a sail that allows any serious racer to reach his or her full potential!

To achieve this vision, we are consequently continuously deve-loping, testing, tuning and refining these sails. The Race sail is constant-ly under development and is closely examined every time we do a new production build. For 2018, the focus has been on weight reduction and improved batten rotation.

Extra hi-tech materials in the upper luff sleeve area of the KA.RACE have impacted the mast bend and leech twist for a lighter feel, enhanced acceleration, speed and stability. We added luff round in the lower foil which has improved stability. The in-creased luff curve provides a fuller profile in the lower section of the sail, which has greatly improved its low-end sailing and end speed.

CARBON BOOM DETAILS

We have received many positive reactions about the considerable improvements to our Carbon boom shapes, notably in the back-end section of these booms, which we implemen-ted already in 2017. For 2018, we will continue the use of a wider end piece to ensure that the boom allows the sail to breathe and fill out perfectly on the water, just as the designers meant it!
