Principal‘s Report

Quality Work

KN students have been working hard in L3 groups each morning with Liam R showing improvement in Reading; Atalia B, Iziah L and Elke H showing improvement in their Literacy Skills; while Levi C is showing improvement in all areas of his learning. Tallis from K/1N has worked hard to make incredible progress in his Reading and Writing. He has successfully completed the Reading Recovery program and is even reading for pleasure now. Congratulations, Tallis! Edward M from 1/2D wrote an impressive piece of persuasive writing about Being an adult is better than being a kid.

He provided three convincing reasons and finished with a powerful conclusion expressing his point of view. Great work Edward…I’m almost convinced! Congratulations to Menzie L from 5/6F who has successfully completed all 13 levels of the Slow & Steady section of the Multi-Lit program. Please support Hugh by purchasing a ticket. NSW Spectacles Program

The NSW Spectacles Program provides Government funded glasses and vision aids to eligible recipients including the elderly, children, people experiencing homelessness, those living in rural and remote areas, people with disability and Aboriginal and multicultural communities. This year, significant improvements have been made to the scheme with Vision Australia launching a new online application and assessment process. The new process streamlines applications and product delivery for optometrists, and reduces waiting times for the delivery of glasses. Please see below link which takes you to the Vision Australia website and to the online application for clients wishing to apply to be provided with glasses (free of cost) under the NSW Spectacles Program. http://www.visionaustralia.org/eye-health/nsw-spectacles-program#Apply School Bus Travel School students will be provided with an Opal card at the start of the 2016 school year. The School Opal card will be for travel within the Opal footprint, covering schools and students travelling on public transport across Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Hunter, Illawarra and Southern Highlands. Students who have a paper school bus pass this year will automatically be issued with an Opal card at their school from the start of term in 2016. Some parents and students will need to apply online for their School Opal card, which will be delivered in 2016. This includes parents who have children starting at kindergarten, moving from Year 2 to 3, starting high school, changing school or changing their address next year. Parents and students who need to apply for a School Opal card can go to the website www.transportnsw.info/school-students from Monday 2 November.

Selective High School Placement Applications for students seeking placement in Year 7 at a selective high school in 2017 are available until 16 November 2015. All parents are expected to apply online and application information is available on the Department’s internet at: www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement or a limited number of information booklets are available from the front office. Arrival at School

It has come to my attention that some students have been arriving quite early in the morning; some well before 8am. When students arrive early they are to sit near the stairs outside 3/4D’s classroom. However, please keep in mind that teachers are not on duty until 8:35am so there is no supervision prior to that time. In the interest of student safety, we ask that wherever possible students arrive no earlier than 8:30am. Organisation for 2016 Thank you to the families who have already contacted the school informing us of your plans for 2016, that will impact on your child’s enrolment with us. Again, if you know that you won’t be returning to Kahibah PS next year or have some leave planned for 2016, please advise the front office.

Chaplain’s Message In my role as School Chaplain, I have been privileged to have discussions with many children, including those with personal problems, those participating in Social Skilling, Anger Management & Grief & Loss Programs and other issues. During my 8 years of Chaplaincy, I have always been humbled by the number of children who say “Thank you for seeing me” or similar. This demonstrates the students at Kahibah are being taught good manners and common courtesies, which do not exist in many quarters today. So congratulations to you, as parents, for preparing your children to be role models in today’s world and hopefully for the future. We, as a staff, recognise the effort required to instil good manners in our students and of course we continue to follow up the good grounding you have begun. Good manners, like smiles, cost nothing, but mean so much. Finally I wish to share a message from my calendar with everyone.

“Take time to laugh, it is the music of the soul. May your day be a happy one!

Helen Harvie. (Mrs Rainbow.)

School Chaplain
