The Beginning

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.2

Now the earth was formless andempty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the

11 Now the whole world had one

language and a common speech.

2 As people moved eastward, they

found a plain in Shinar and settled

there.

3 They said to each other, “ome,

of stone, and tar for mortar.

% Then they said, “ome, let us #uild

ourselves a city, with a tower that

reaches to the heavens, so that we

of what they can do. Soon they will

understand each other.$

there over all the earth, and they
