BOND PROPOSAL FEBRUARY 23 Be sure to register by January 25

The voters of the Kalkaska Public School District will be asked to approve a

bond proposal for improvements to our school facilities.

This proposal would include:

Enclosing classrooms at Birch Street Elementary School, where there is now

the “open classroom” concept. This increases security in the classrooms

and provides a much more effective learning environment.

Provide an enlarged library at the middle school to allow additional space

for computer equipment and upgraded technology. The new lobby by the

gym would provide better accommodations for students, parents, and

community members attending school events. New lobby rest rooms will be

included. OLD boilers need replacement.

The existing gym at the high school will be remodeled into a new, 500-seat

auditorium, with an attached, renovated band room. The proposal will

provide a new gymnasium. The existing one is not large enough to hold

many high school athletic events. The existing library will be converted to a

new cafeteria-kitchen. The existing auditorium will be renovated into a new

library. The heating system (in the 1959 section of the high school-50 years

old) will be upgraded.

The above list contains the major items in the proposal-other areas are to be addressed.

The bond money cannot be used for anything other than what is on the bond proposal, and

this money is kept separately in school budgets under the category of “debt levy.” Even with

the approval of a bond, our debt levy will be lower than several other neighboring districts.

YOUR SUPPORT FOR OUR DISTRICT’S CHILDREN IS APPRECIATED!
