It gives us an immense pleasure to publish before you our quarterly activities up to 30 June 2016. In our e-Newsletter we mostly focus on the activities in which our faculty members and students have involved with their keen interest in the higher learning and the research field as well. During this period our College organized a Convocation Ceremony for the academic year of 2014-2015. Our College also organized ISTE Competitions for research projects pre- pared by students. Most of our faculty members attended and presented their research papers in National and International Conferences. Some of our faculty completed their training in industry and some of them attended the Faculty Development Programmes and Short Term Training Programmes. Department Level Project Competitions were organized and this activity helped the stu- dents study well for their research projects and present it before the experts. Three of our students got selected for their M Tech Degree in NIT Campus. Our faculty also got consid- erable success in NPTEL online certification courses. Most of our faculty members organized Industrial Visits and Study Tours for the students which helped to develop professional insights among the students as well as themselves. Vidya Pratishthan Sanstha organized a Convocation Ceremony for the Academic Year

2014-2015. It was organized on 27 April 2016. Vidya Pratishthan’s College of Engineering

took the responsibility to conduct this Programme. Dr. V B Gaikwad, Director (BCUD, SPPU,

Pune) was the Chief Guest. This Convocation Ceremony was organized for the following Col-

leges of Vidya Pratishthan.

College of Education, Baramati, Vasantrao Pawar Law College, Baramati, School of Architec-

ture, Baramati, Arts, Science and Commerce College, Baramati, College of Engineering,

Baramati and Commerce and Science College, Indapur.

ISTE College Level Project Competition was organized in the College on 5 June 2016. 42 pro-

ject teams participated in this Competition. From each Department one winner was finalized.

ISTE PROJECT COMPETITIONS AND OTHER COMPETITIONS CONDUCTED IN THE COLLEGE

Mechanical Engineering Department organized a Project Competition in the campus on 6

April 2016. Total 21 Project Teams from the Department participated in the event. Out of

them top 6 projects were selected for college level competition. This Competition was con-

ducted under the inspection of Principal Prof. V.U. Deshmukh and Dr. S B Deosarkar.

He attended and presented his research paper entitled Teaching English Language through

Literature in the 11th International Conference conducted by English Language Teaching As-

sociation of India (ELTAI) during 30 June to 2 July 2016 in Hyderabad. The Conference be-

gan with the Inaugural address by Dr. K Elango, the Secretary of ELTAI. It was followed by

plenary sessions by Dr. Bradley from America. Lightening Talks by scholars in English Lan-

guage Teaching were arranged.

Eminent scholars like Prof. S Mohanraj (EFLU, Hyderabad), Prof. Geetha Durairajan (EFLU,

Hyderabad) Prof. Shreesh Chaudhari (IIT, Madras) and Prof. Chellappan addressed the par-

ticipants and shared their knowledge and experiences. In his research paper Anil Patil em-

phasized the significance of literature in English language teaching and learning. Panel dis-

cussions and research papers by other participants helped him develop certain insights in

learning and teaching English.

She attended the 9th Doctoral Thesis Conference at Hyderabad on 21 and 22 April 2016. Title

of her paper was “Context and Content-Based Summarization of Web Search Results”.

She attended IASc-INSA-NASI Summer Research Fellowship at Institute for De-

velopment and Research in Banking Technology, Hyderabad. She worked on

“Botnet Detection Tools and Techniques: A Review” under the guidance of Dr. B.

M. Mehtre, Center of Cyber Security, IDRBT, Hyderabad. The duration of this

fellowship was 15 April to 10 June 2016.

Prof. Bhushan Mahajan

He attended a Four-Day TEQIP Short-Term Training Program on Software Re-

quirement and Specification at Department of Computer Engineering in S.V NIT,

Surat during 9 May to 13 May 2016. Objective of this workshop was to explore

the connection of Software Engineering in students’ project development and

provide a stand for exchange of knowledge in Software Engineering practices.

She completed her Internship at Global Soft Technology, Pune during 15

April to 15 May 2016. She worked on Software Testing (Manual) and Web Ap-

plications.

Prof. Rajaram Ambole

He attended a Faculty Development Program on Computer Organization

and Architecture at Sinhagad NBN School of Engineering, Ambegaon

(BK), Pune on 24 June 2016. This FDP was organized to guide the facul-

ty members about Computer Organization and Architecture in perspec-

tive of the revised syllabus of SE Computer Engineering course. This FDP

focused on the theory for Computer subjects and newly added case studies in the

syllabus. Main objective of the FDP was to orient faculties for teaching Computer

Organization and Architecture as well as applications of subject from Computer En-

gineering perspective.

Discussion of Engineering Mathematics-III" on 25 June 2016 at

Dr. D.Y. Patil IET in Pimpari.

He participated in the “Syllabus Framing Session” on Soft Skills. This Session

was conducted to frame the new syllabus for Soft Skills Course of Mechanical

Engineering Department. It was conducted by Flora Institute of Technology in

Pune on 6 May 2016. The Industry Experts and the Faculty members of Col-

leges affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University discussed the requirements

of Engineering students and the Syllabus was finalized.

He attended a Faculty Development Program for Discrete Mathematics at Key-

stone School of Engineering (KSE), Pune on 14 June 2016. Main objective of the

FDP was to orient faculties for teaching Discrete Mathematics as well as appli-

cations of subject from Computer Engineering perspective. Prof. Nihar Ranjan,

SITS Narhe and Prof. Sunil Dhore, AIT, Pune briefly discussed the contents of

Discrete Mathematics.

May to 30 June 2016. He worked on Design of Wideband Micro Strip Patch An-

tenna during this Fellowship Program.

Prof. Keshav Jadhav

He completed One-Month Industrial Training in Industrial Refrigeration Division of Accurate

Industrial Controls Pvt. Ltd., Pune during 5 May to 4 June 2016. During this training pro-

gram he studied different processes in manufacturing of refrigerator like PU foaming, braz-

ing, air-tight sealing etc. He studied different testing methods of manufactured refrigerator.

He did various experiments to check performance of refrigerator. He did theoretical analysis

of refrigeration cycle to compare two different refrigerant used in refrigerators. This experi-

ence was helpful for him while teaching subjects related to refrigeration in class and to guide

students for their projects related to refrigeration.

He attended a Faculty Summer Industrial Training Program during 2 May to 15 May 2016 at

Hi-Tech Corporation India Pvt. Ltd. During this training program, he acquired knowledge

about actual field work done in area of joining technology used in high pressure vessel, NDT

testing methods in high pressure vessel and fabrication methodology for high pressure ves-

sels.

They conducted academic course practical sessions for Karnataka Central University stud-

nets in the subjects like I.C. Engine, Heat Transfer and Turbo Machines respectively of

Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering arranged an Industri-

al Visit for Final Year students to 36MW Mahagenco Solar Plant, Shirshuphal on 24 June

2016. The purpose of this visit was to make students aware of the natural/non-conventional

energy resources and its utilization.

He completed an internship at Town Planning Department, Baramati during 7 June 2016 to

14 June 2016 along with 8 students. During this period they studied and discussed with

officers different works which their department performs like Preparation of development

plan, building permissions, Non-Agriculture (NA) procedure along with some case studies

and survey work required for it. They visited Katewadi village to see rural planning and did

preliminary survey of Kanheri village for preparation of development plan.

Department of Information Technology organized Visit of Third Year students to IIT

Roorkee for Cognigence event. They attended workshop on Cross Platform Mobile Applications

and also participated in various events. Students who participated in the Visit were Pranjali

Bagal, Divya Bhosale, Poonal Bargaje, Sukhada Rajmane, Priyanka Pawar, Chavan

Tejaswini, Patil Jayashri, Abhishek Ramane, Wattamwar Shubham, Pol Pranav, Bhopalsinh

Musale, Chokare Ganesh. This visit was coordinated by Prof. Kolkar Ranjit.

INDUSTRIAL / INTERNSHIP VISITS AND GUEST LECTURES ORGANIZED

Department of Civil Engineering organized a Guest Lecture of Prof. Dr. Sanjay Bhoyar,

PGP-IFDM NICMAR, Pune on Construction Project Management and Softwares used for it on

1 April 2016 for all Civil Engineering Students. He guided students about job opportunities

for Civil Engineers in infrastructure projects and construction project planning. Prof. D. G.

Patil and Prof. Ms. B. V. Sawant coordinated the program.

Department of Civil Engineering organized a Visit to the Exhibition at Centenary Open

House. It was organised by CWPRS (Central Water and Power Research) Khadakwasla, Pune

on 14 June 2016. Prof. G.N. Narule, Prof. U Jagdale, Prof. B Sawant and Prof. S Reshmukh

attended the same. The visit was useful to gain knowledge related to all research projects

carried out by CWPRS in the field of Water Resource Engineering and Hydraulic Structures.

They got first prize in Project Competition organized by VPKBIET, ISTE Chapter on 5 June

2016. They got prize for their project entitled “Preliminary Diagnosis of Cow Health using

VDO Processing” guided by Prof. Mrs. Gyankamal Chhajed. Their approach was to develop a

system that identifies cow health at initial stage so that no delay is taken for further diagno-

sis. This avoids spread of diseases in cattles which indirectly helps in increasing milk pro-

duction. Automatic health detection technique reduces human effort in identifying health.

STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENTS

Mr. Swapnil Thaware

His Project (ME Computer-2012) entitled “Development task-based navigation

for Software Documentation” ranked first in the track of Software Engineering

and Architecture at cPGCON-14 organized at D.Y. Patil School of Engineering

and Technology, Pune. He worked under the guidance of Prof. Dinesh Hanchate.

Team Jubatus from Mechanical Engineering Department participated in VIRTUAL BA-

JA 2016 EVENT along with Prof. S.C. Mahadik under SAEINDIA. The event was held in Ban-

galore on 24 and 25 June 2016. As SAEINDIA BAJA is a national level event, this Team com-

peted 413 teams from all over India and secured 10th rank in new team category and 41st in

combined new + old team category.

First Year Students of our College participated in ISTE Srinivasa Ramanujan Mathemat-

ics Competitions--2015-16. 77 Students participated from VPCOE Center. 16 Students qual-

ified National Level Examination and 13 students received National Level Ranks. Dr. A.P.

Hiwarekar worked as a coordinator of these Competitions.
