Technology, Supply Chain and Expenditure

© BVG Associates 2017

• Global annual expenditure for offshore wind in 2022 will be

approximately €25,7 billion

• Expenditure between 2018 and 2022 will be about €108,3

billion

• 27% of all offshore spend by 2022

• A € 600 billion market until 2030

• The rated power of turbines has increased over a 15-

year period, from 2MW to 9,5MW.

• Monopile foundations will continue to be widely used.

Jacket and gravity base foundations will be used in

rocky soil conditions or deeper waters.

• In 2017, the first large-scale floating foundation

project was installed in the UK.

• 66kV array cables were first installed on a project in

2017 meaning capacity of a string can be increased

and electrical losses can be reduced.

• Higher voltage transmission will be used for larger

projects further from shore, or where 'clusters' feed

into central HVDC transmission systems.

• Move towards 'third generation' jack-up installation

vessels to perform lifts in higher wind speeds.

• SOVs and drones will become more widely used for

larger projects located further from shore.
