3-D Printed Inserts In Injection Mold
Presenter:Joe Blubaugh
Joe Blubaugh, of Computer Aided Tech-nology, will be the guest speaker for the meeting. He plans to give an overview of 3-D Printing as a whole as well as where it is now and what advancements have been made. 3-D printing is grow-ing in popularity and applications are endless, even in tooling. Joe will be discussing using 3-D printed inserts in injection mold, which is an exciting topic that could allow you to test your insert design before going straight into hard tooling! Sample parts will also be avail-able for viewing.
Would you like to knowmore about recentadvancements in
3-D printing and what itmeans for you?
Do you like good BBQ?
If so, we ask that you please join us for our Chapter Society of Plastics
Engineers meeting, with a presenta-tion on 3-D Printing, September 24th
at Zarda BBQ in Lenexa, KS.

Dear SPE Members,
As you may have noticed the SPE Logo, colors and all have changed but the website is still there to help. If you go to www.4spe.org you will see that national is going green, in fact fluorescent green. On the left sideare the tabs that are there to help you. The first one is the events tab. Currently a Foams 2015 seminar is coming up in September. Automotive Composites, Failure Analysis and Part Design Webinars are being offered. All members get a discount for participating in these events. The Membership tab is, of course, where you join or renew your membership. The Leadership tab is designed to help you connect with others who are in the plastics industry. There is a large icon on the right hand side called “The Chain” where plastic professionals connect. Select it, and you will see the selections: “Tech Talk” , “SPE Cafe”, “Leadership Lane”, “Career Central” and “Campus Connection”. Please check these out. The Resources Tab has information on Latest News, Recently Added Jobs and Latest Technical Resources. The Communities tab is all about us. The Divisions, Sections and SIGs: Special Interest Groups are listed here. The last tab is Foundation which is about scholarships for students in the plastics industry. Of course we would want all of them to go to PSU students so please check this tab out.
Thanks,
Paul SteinkePresident913-907-0948

Society of Plastics Engineers Section 32Board of Directors Meeting - Sept. 8, 2015
Meeting and Communication Summary: The Chapter has been heavily busy with two major facets; Continual advisement on Newsletter Ads Sponsors and The Future State of SPE communication to active and potential members.
Update: The chapter has been discussing how they want to commu-nicate to its current and potential members. Paul H. has done quite a bit of research into platforms available from Nationals. Below are our current state and options we could move to, along with some details of what these options bring.
Options: 1 - It’s already there. When people search for the Kansas City section, they find a list of our board members. This is free. 1A - The same as #1, but we can add items such as events, and an e-version of our newsletter (the PDF file is hosted on SPE’s site, this is not a link) this is free. 2 - More (probably much more) content added - SPE will estimate a price based on what a group wants 3 - For a setup fee of $5000 SPE will train someone from the group to be the administrator of their site, it also costs about $500 per year maintenance cost. This would be a much more extensive site. Further discussion of the best option for KC chapter at this time will be brought up at our next event.
Up Coming Event: Will be held in the side room of Zarda’s BBQ, Joe Blubaugh of Computer Aided Technology, Inc (CATI) will provide a pre-senter.

School is off to a fast start again at Pittsburg State Univer-sity. At the end of the spring semester the chapter included 31 members, and there’s a good chance we can add to that in the coming year. Our goals for the year are to hold more meetings outside of the school setting, to influence new ideas and have some fun, and to fundraise by selling poker chips, gorilla bottles, and through the annual golf tourna-ment. Overall, Pittsburg State SPE members are excited to be back and are ready to make this another successful year.
