Holiday PromotionsA total of nine members were featured in the From the Land of Kansas holiday gift boxes. The boxes were offered in two sizes and packaged by Prairie Harvest in Newton. They were sold online at shop.fromthelandofkansas.com. During the holiday season 585 gift boxes were sold, more than two and a half times the number of boxes sold in 2017.

The From the Land of KansasTM trademark program’s goal is to promote and celebrate agricultural experiences and

products grown, raised or produced in Kansas. In addition, the program works with and supports

Farmers’ Market WorkshopsThese were hosted by the Kansas Department of Agriculture, K-State Research and Extension and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Topics included food safety, cover cropping, marketing, pricing strategies amd more. The workshops were held in Chanute, Great Bend, Wichita, Olathe, Colby and Manhattan, with a total attendance of 415.

Incubator Kitchen Resource GuideThe Kansas Department of Agriculture and From the Land of Kansas continue to support an Incubator Kitchen Resource Guide to provide critical information about incubator resources throughout the state.

Incubator kitchens are food facilities that can be rented for short periods of time to allow individuals starting a food business to access commercial kitchen equipment in a cost-effective manner. The guide is posted on the KDA website at agriculture.ks.gov/IncubatorKitchen.

Specialty Crop Meet Me at the Market GrantThe Kansas Department of Agriculture received a U.S. Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Block Grant in 2017 to create a Kansas Farmers’ Market Online Toolkit and provide 12 farmers' markets with a $3,000 stipend to focus on the marketing of specialty crops at farmers' markets. The markets utilized the funds to purchase radio advertising, newspaper spots, signage, and mail pieces marketing the opportunity to find local fruits and vegetables at the market. They also hosted promotional events and activities to educate consumers about ways to consume and prepare specialty crops.

Food Safety GuidesThe Food Safety for Kansas Farmers’ Market Vendors: Regulations and Best Practices guide was handed out at all farmers’ market workshops. Additionally, copies were sent to all markets who are registered with the Central Registration for Farmers’ Markets.

A Taste of Kansas Local DinnerFrom the Land of Kansas hosted a dinner utilizing only Kansas ingredients, promoting seven trademark member businesses. The event was held in WaKeeney at Shiloh Vineyard, featuring a Kansas chef; 80 guests attended the event.

Kansas State FairTen members had the opportunity to showcase and sell their products in the From the Land of Kansas booth at the Kansas State Fair, located in the Pride of Kansas Building. Chef Alli also prepared samples of recipes created with members’ products for fairgoers.

Pop-Up StoresThe program hosted several pop-up stores throughout the year, including at the Kansas Association of Conservation Districts Annual Meeting in November and at the Kansas Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in December.

Organic Cost Share ProgramThe Kansas Department of Agriculture re-ceived USDA funds to reimburse businesses that produce, process or package certified organic agricultural products. Businesses were eligible to be reimbursed for a portion of certification (or re-certification) related expenses.

Kansas Wine & Beer TastingGovernor Jeff Colyer hosted the Seventh Annual Kansas Wine & Beer Tasting and BBQ event in May to showcase the state’s growing farm winery and microbrewery industry. The event connected legislators with industry producers and stakeholders to highlight the economic impact these businesses have in Kansas. Seven farm wineries and six microbreweries sampled their products at this event. Chef Alli prepared the BBQ meal with grilled hamburgers and multiple sides featuring twenty different members' products.

Specialty Crop Great Lakes Expo GrantThe Kansas Department of Agriculture received a U.S. Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Block Grant in October 2018 to provide reimbursement funds to twenty specialty crop growers attending the Great Lakes Expo specialty crop conference held in Michigan in December.

Chef AlliTwice a month on WIBW TV, Chef Alli featured a member's product in a recipe that she showcased during the morning broadcast. These features ran through August. In October, Chef Alli began a monthly segment on KAKE TV. The segments feature a member, educate viewers about their business, and demonstrate how to cook with their product. Nineteen segments featured sixteen members and partner organizations.

40th Anniversary Celebration at the State Capitol 2018 marked the 40th anniversary of the state trademark program in Kansas. To kick off the year, 20 From the Land of Kansas businesses sampled their products in the state Capitol and shared their stories with visitors and legislators. The event also featured a display of the program's history. The event provided members with the opportunity to talk to their legislators and share their products with them.

2018 Annual Meeting and Farmers’ Market ConferenceThe event was held in Manhattan March 1 and 2, 2018. Seventy-six attendees enjoyed a jam-packed two-day event featuring opportunities to network and learn about how to run a successful business or farmers' market. The keynote speaker, Jolene Brown, shared stories of success and tips to market your product through the eyes of a consumer. The event also included several panels of farmers' market managers and Kansas businesses that shared their tips for success.
