As the pace of daily life continues its acceleration and moments of respite and renewal become more difficult to find, we are more than ever grateful for the opportunity to unplug and reconnect with each other, God and nature at Kanuga.

Our program committee and staff have assembled a wonderful series of adult and youth conferences, guest periods, camps and outdoor education opportunities for the first eight months of 2014—January through August. This catalog shares these opportunities and guides you to the next steps in your journey back home to Kanuga, or perhaps joining us for the first time.

On pages 2-7 you will find information on conferences and guest periods, all focused on personal, spiritual and community growth and renewal. If your business, nonprofit, parish, family reunion or other group is looking for a quiet setting to hold a residential retreat or conference, pages 8-9 will guide you through the process of connecting with our professional, experienced staff.

And last (but never least at Kanuga) pages 15-21 are dedicated to the multitude of opportunities for children and youth to experience their own reconnection with each other, themselves, God and nature.

Visit us online at kanuga.org for up-to-date program information, news and ways you can be a part of the Kanuga family.

We look forward to seeing you,

Stanley B. Hubbard Jr., president

Bowen ConferenceBeyond The shepherd: re-ImaGInG God

Join author, professor and episcopal priest Lauren Winner at the 2014 Bowen Conference to explore a dozen (or so) often overlooked biblical images for God, from vine to clothing. Drawing on contemporary novels, anthropologists’ musings, and the writings of medieval mystics, we will ask what it might mean to take seriously the idea that God is, say, clothing. How might we interpret the many biblical passages that invite us to think of God as clothing? What kinds of prayer possibilities open up when we think of God as clothing—as a cardigan sweater or a fancy tulle dress? DOUBle OCCUpANCY $320, SINGle OCCUpANCY $405, COMMUTeR $250

Nothing brings a smile to my face faster than hearing the laughter of children. As we prepare for another wonderful year of youth programs at Kanuga, I’m reminded of a moment this past summer watching children chasing fireflies on the lawn outside of the Kanuga lake Inn, giggling with joy the entire time. My fondest memories from my own childhood are anchored in the outdoors; from catching fireflies, hunting for crawdads or eating a sun-warmed tomato straight off the vine—each memory is vivid and sweet.

I am proud to say that Kanuga is a place where youth can enjoy moments like these and more. The combination of our scenic surroundings and skilled staff serves to engage young people in learning and exploration. Whether those lessons are centered around their faith, community, or the environment they are sure to walk away richer from the experience.

In the following pages, we invite you to learn about the myriad of offerings for youth at Kanuga. My program directors and I would be pleased to answer any questions you may have and we look forward to seeing you at Kanuga.

In joyful service,

Since 1931, Camp Kanuga campers have been forming lifelong friendships, experiencing new adventures and exploring their faith in our welcoming Christian community. Our campers are boys and girls ages 7-15. They come for 9- or 13-day sessions to swim, climb, paddle a canoe, tie dye a t-shirt, hike and, most of all, to enjoy God’s creation away from the distractions of everyday life. Amid mountain vistas, crisp streams and towering pines, boys and girls build independence, self-confidence and respect for each other and the world around them. Since 1977, Camp Kanuga has been accredited by the American Camp Association, the industry leader in setting standards for camp program quality and youth development education.
