Quality Work with Mr Moxon

Off We Go to the Hunter Valley Zoo (Stage 1) Stage 1 are gearing up for an exciting excursion to the Hunter Valley Zoo. This will be an amazing educational excursion learning about Australian and non-Australian animals and their environment. This program is linked to the Stage 1 Science Unit “Living Things’ which is currently being explored in our classrooms. Please remember all permission notes and money need to be returned to school by Wednesday

For more information, please refer to the information sheet that came home to

families earlier this term. Also if you are keen to complete some additional research before your visit or would like see what daily shows are on offer at the zoo check out their website at: www.huntervalleyzoo.com.au

Celebrate with our P&C All community members are welcome to attend our next P&C meeting. At our P&C meetings you will hear the latest updates from members of our school executive team and have the opportunity to have your say in how our school runs. We have a wonderful dedicated team of members and we would like you to come and join the fun.

Where: KPS Staffroom

When: Wednesday 28th November

Time: 6:30pm

Over the last two weeks I have received several letters of commendation for our wonderful teaching staff.

Mr Schasser, Mrs Mason, Mr Hernandez, Mrs Newton, Mrs Ryan and Miss Tracey have all received positive

feedback about their teaching, enthusiasm and professionalism. We are super lucky to be working and going to a great school like Kanwal!

I would also like to acknowledge the amazing work of Miss G Thompson of 2N who came to show me her amazing holiday journal of her recent trip to Queensland. She had fun on the water slides at Nambucca Heads and on day four she saw the dolphins, seals and penguins at Sea World. This is an exceptional recount of a great holiday with a vast array of accompanying photographs. I felt like, I had been on holidays too.

K Ferris and H Lewin of 1M also popped in to show me their quality writing samples. I can see these students are working hard in their classrooms. Speaking of working hard it was nice to drop into 6A last week to see them

working on designing their own robots out of recycled items. This design challenge was allowing for some very cre-ative designs and some robust design conversations.

Have a great week Kanwal.

Mr Moxon

Maths Olympiad The annual APSMO Maths Olympiad consists of a series of 5 separate con-tests, one per month from May to September. The Junior Division Olympiad (Division J) is specifically designed to stimulate and challenge students at pri-mary school level. It teaches major problem solving strategies and strength-ens students' mathematical intuition.

This year 27 students were selected to represent our school.

The students worked diligently to try and solve mathematical problems that would prove challenging for people of any age.

Congratulations to the following students who represented Kanwal Public School in the Maths Olympiad:

The following letter was sent from the Children’s University Team at the University of Newcastle.

Dear CU Children and Families, November, 2018

I would like to write a letter of thanks and congratulations to all students that attended the recent Children’s University graduation ceremonies. This year we welcomed onto campus 932 graduating students and over 2,500 families across the three evenings.

The CU team would like to congratulate all students for their behaviour and enthusiasm shown throughout the evening. We planned for these evenings to be a celebration and recognition of the effort and time you have placed into all the learning opportunities throughout the year.

Thank you to all families that attended. We appreciate your presence on the evening, hope you enjoyed the celebration, and look forward to seeing you all again in the future.

Children’s University continues to encourage children and their families to keep learning in their communities during the Christmas holiday period. All learning experiences that occur between now and Term 1 next year are added into the hours for 2019 Graduation. Please place a line in your passports to indicate that 2018 hours are finalised.

Your passport hours continue across into next year. To be eligible for graduation in 2019 you need to have moved up into the next award category. For example, if you got 30 hours this year you would have to make it to 65 hours to get the Silver Award.

This program is an annual commitment. Children have the capacity to opt into the program each year. If you would like to be involved next year, please indicate this to your teacher in charge of the pro-gram.

Once again thank you, children for your enthusiasm for learning and parents for your support. If you or your family has any questions about the program, please contact us.

If you would like to make suggestions for improvements or place a comment regarding the evening please do

so at [email protected] or call 49218739. Hope to see you all in 2019,

Children’s University Team
