World Champion Visit Karachi Club  Pakistan has the distinction of producing World Champions not only in Cricket and Hockey but also laurels have been brought by our Snooker players.  It was Mohammed Yousuf, a known figure at Karachi Club, who was the winner of the 1994 World Snooker Championship and after a lapse of 18 years, the same title has been won by Mohamemd Asif in the 2012 World Snooker Championship held in Sofia Bulgaria in December 2012. Recognizing his achievement,

Karachi Club  decided to honour the Champion and invited him to visit the Club on 11th Jan 2013.  A ceremony was organized attendedby large number of Snooker enthusiasts. Honorary Secretary of the Club, Jawed H. Karim was the Chief Guest. Speakers highlighted the honour brought to Pakistan. Club announced a Cash award of Rs.200,000 as token of its recognition. acknowledged, encouraged and cherished. There should be an establishment of student based learning where the main focus lies with the needs of the students and empowers them to take autonomy for their own learning.

The school should also keep up the advanced technological race if it wants to keep up with the ever increasing competition. E-learning should be encouraged. Classrooms should be fully equipped with advanced technical gadgets that make student learning and interactions much more collaborative and accessible. Students should be able to gain knowledge without actually coming to the school; electronic certification systems. The school should be completely established in the digital age where all work takes place on the computers. The school should train students to be skilled in professions that don’t even exist as yet. The new model of education should respond to global challenges and be innovative. Students should be trained in applications benefiting the country and doing something to bring a change in the world. Talents should be honed and students guided towards carriers that have long term success.

What would Schools be like in 2020 By Hiba Anis

Humans have always been under going learning and over period of time many modifications have occurred in our quest to gain knowledge. The earliest means of learning were mainly information passed down in the form of stories generation to generation. Then we began to store and preserve that knowledge so that other people could learn it. And then when we began to understand how important literacy is for survival, we establishedschools, colleges and universities so that we could learn to live. My vision of a school in  2020 is a where students are not forced fed information to store but encouraged to process it first. Where they are asked to question ‘why?’ and encouraged to find answers. Where learning is not limited to the classroom but students are encouraged to explore and discover the outside world. Where book-learning is not enough and students are trained for their future. And, the students are taught not only the curriculum but skills that will probably help them out more than simple book learning in their futures. The school that I’d like in 2020 is place where individuality is

Gup Shup By Majid Khandwala

Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

(To be read in good spirits - no criticism intended)

Gup: Hi! Where have you been?Shup: I was busy with the elections.

Gup: But the elections are sometime in May.Shup: I mean KC elections.

Gup: What happened?Shup: Democracy did not do too well.

Gup: Why do you say that?Shup: Because Democrats got fewer seats than last year.

Gup: That does not mean democracy faltered.Shup: If you were a supporter of Democrats that’s

how you would feel.

Gup: Come on have a big heart - there’s alwaysa next time.

Shup: These voters - it seems they are followers ofthe book written by President Ayub Khan.

Gup: Really - which one?Shup: Friends Not Democrats.

Gup: Silly that book was titled Friends Not Masters.Shup: Oh was it - what’s in a title anyway?

Gup: You should not lose heart - failures are thepillars of success.

Shup: I cannot afford to - otherwise I would be heartless.

Gup: There is always a next time.Shup: Next time is a one year wait - it’s like waiting

for the lift.

Gup: Lift?Shup: The one they have been trying to replace.

Gup: Isn’t it operational now?Shup: Finally - if they had gone any slower they would

have had to stop.

Gup: Climbing a flight of stairs could not have doneyou any harm.

Shup: Not if you want to conserve your energy.

Gup: So you are happy now. Shup: Not really - I feel like doing a Q.

Gup: What do you mean - doing a Q?Shup: Seek asylum in Canada.

Gup: Ha ha - for what purpose?Shup: So that I return with a bang and do a long march.

Gup: A long march would involve using a lot of yourprecious energy.

Shup: Okay so I will keep it short - from the clubentrance to the front lawn.

Gup: Why the lawn?Shup: One needs space for the Dharna.

Gup: No member will join you.Shup: I will make sure I pick a day when there is a big

crowd - one of those never ending foodfestivals for instance.

Gup: What’s the purpose of the Dharna?Shup: I want to do a Z.

Gup: What’s this alphabet soup?Shup: I am going to be a Presidential candidate next year.

Gup: What makes you think people will vote for you?Shup: It is my observation that members vote

according to weight.

Gup: I am lost.Shup: My last name is Kilo.

Gup: So?Shup: I will definitely win - I weigh much more than

a Tola.
