Historical NoteKarl Vernon King was born on 27 October 1901, the son of Samuel Andrew and Maynetta Bagley King.He attended the University of Utah, Brigham Young University, and George Washington Universitybefore serving an LDS mission in Germany. He joined his father's law firm in 1930 and became aSalt Lake City judge in 1944. William H. King was born on 3 June 1868 to William and Josephine Henry King. He received his lawdegree from the University of Michigan and served in various political positions in Utah for over fiftyyears. He served in the U.S. Senate from 1916-1940.

Creighton King was the brother of Karl Vernon King. He died suddenly in 1930.

Content DescriptionThe Karl Vernon King papers (1899-1960) include the papers of two generations of a Utah familyof lawyers and politicians. The collection is divided into four parts. The first contains materials fromand about William Henry King. It includes correspondence, news articles, speeches, and pamphlets.The second section contains Samuel Andrew King's files, which include personal and businesscorrespondence and his legal papers. His correspondence with his brother and business associatesillustrates the Kings' involvement in mining, irrigation, and the oil industry. The third section containssome materials regarding Creighton King. The final and largest part of the collection are the files of KarlV. King. The majority of these materials concern his work as an immigration lawyer and his efforts toimport Basque sheepherders in the 1940s-1950s.
