We distributed posters across Walsall and surroundingareas, achieved PR in the local, trade and consumer mediaand launched a Facebook campaign. Dog owners weregiven four weeks to send in photos of their dog so wecould select 15 finalists.

With over 750 entries from across the UK and abroad, we were overwhelmed by the response, making it reallydifficult to select our 15 favourites.

The finalists were invited to attend a casting day, whichwas held in March at our offices. Birmingham Dogs Home Sunnyside Manager Karen Doy joined DirectorsSimon and Sarah Lane in helping to choose the winner.

It was a most enjoyable day for everyone involved and all our dogs performed for the camera, although someneeded more persuasion than others!

After much deliberation, we chose Monty, a 9 month oldTransylvanian bloodhound as our winner. Although theywere all winners really, we chose Monty as he did havesomething extra special and was a natural in front of the camera. As well as becoming the new face of Ancol, Monty received £100 in dog products. All finalists received a photo from the casting day and a goody bag.

Look out for Monty along with most of our other finalists throughout this catalogue.

MONTY’S STORYSo, what’s Monty’s story? We interviewed Monty’s ownerMike Brooman, from Melton Mowbray to find out moreabout our winner.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD MONTY?We adopted Monty when he as about seven months old from the Dogs Home, where he’d been taken in as a stray. It took Monty quite a long time to settle down,because of his earlier experience of life as a stray andthen going straight into kennels. But we are lucky he hasalways been comfortable around people and other dogsand very playful.

WHAT TRAINING HAS MONTY HAD?Monty had no training before being adopted, he wasn'tused to being asked to do anything, and certainly wasn’tused to the idea of being on a lead!

We worked hard with his training, attending one-on-one training sessions with TheK9Concept, a local dogobedience and socialisation trainer, at least once a week for a good few months. And Monty still goes to see the trainer every week to keep him on his toes!

WHAT IS HIS NORMAL DAILY ROUTINE?Monty loves to chase a ball, so every morning he has aboutan hour running about in the fields around our home.Once that has tired him out, he enjoys a chilled out dayrelaxing on the sofa and pottering about the house. Now he seems to prefer the new Ancol bed (and I’m not just saying that!) to the sofa, so that’s even better! He then goes out to play with the other dogs from the village in the afternoon, and we always go on a late night patrol to settle him before bed.

HOW HE HAS CHANGED YOUR LIVES?Monty has been a great addition to our family. We moved from London nearly three years ago, and hardly knew anyone, but now we know a lot ofpeople in our village and it’s all thanks to Monty, he is a real ice breaker!

He is also great at relievingstress. You come home froma hectic day at work, and hegreets you like you've beenaway for a year! He makesus smile every day and thereis nothing better thancuddling up with Monty on the sofa.

WE ARE ALWAYS ON THE LOOK-OUT FOR DOG MODELS TO USE IN OUR CATALOGUE, SO THIS YEARWE DECIDED TO OPEN IT UP TO THE PUBLIC AND LAUNCH OUR FIRST DOG MODEL COMPETITION.

Ancol are the only company to offer this system of collar sizing to help your staff and your customers select and identify the correct collar for their dog.The Ancol system uses the breed of dog as a guideline but also includes a special tape, which converts accurately to the correct neck size. Collars are sized from 1-9, which makes recognition and remembering the size a lot easier.

The Ancol collars are adjustable in all cases so that a fair degree of flexibility exists between the sizes. The adjustability of the collar means that for every dog there will be at least two collar sizes that will be acceptable and of comfortable fit.

Product labels highlight the size and clearly differentiates the collars from leads when on display. A collar tape is also

The catalogue shows both Ancol and conventional sizes for collars but as a quick reference guide the following tables show the standard range conversion.

Ancol’s harness packaging has a breed size guide on eachpack to help the consumerselect the right size for theirdog. This should be used as a guide, dogs can differ enormously within each breed category.
