I trust that everyone has had a great Easter break. It is very clear from my visits in classrooms that students have made a great start to the term and are showing the school CARE agreements to a high standard and are also demonstrating good learning. Swimming Carnival Presentations This Friday at assembly, students who have achieved age champion and runners up status at our swimming carnival will be presented with their medallions. I would like to praise all students who were involved in the water fun day or the swimming carnival for their outstanding efforts and attitude on the day. It was great to see students trying their best and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship during and after their events. I would also like to thank all parent volunteers, supporters and staff for your contributions in making the 2015 swimming carnival a successful day for our students. NAPLAN Testing The National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy will be held from the 12th of May to the 15th of May for all students who are in years 3 and 5. Students will participate in national tests for reading, numeracy, spelling, writing and grammar & punctuation. The purpose of the testing is to provide the student and the school with a snapshot of their leaning and achievement to align with other school testing that shows student improvement or growth in their learning. Information brochures for parents about NAPLAN were sent home last term. Playground upgrade for T/1 Work will commence this week to upgrade the Transition/Year 1 playground. For safety and access reasons the sand in the playground will be replaced with ‘soft fall’ material. The playground will be fenced off until work has been completed. In the meantime, students will still have access to the sandpit area and will have special activities set up and run by House Captains and SRC students. Visible learning at KSPS KSPS are implementing an action plan around ‘visible learning’ (the highly regarded research conducted by Professor Hattie). This initiative focuses around the factors that have the greatest impact on student learning. The plan will be implemented to address areas for school improvement including the aspect of students knowing where they are at in their learning and what they need to do to progress towards or above the expected benchmark. ANZAC Day Ceremony Next week’s assembly will be a special assembly to mark respect for ANZAC Day. The School Captains and SRC will run the assembly to express the importance and purpose of ANZAC Day. As usual we encourage as many students as possible to participate in the town ANZAC Day ceremony to march with the school. I will send out more details about this in next week’s newsletter. Try this one again! Try this tricky word riddle: Pronounced as one letter but writ- ten with three, only two different letters are used to make me. I'm double, I'm single I'm black, blue, and grey. I'm read from both ends and the same either way. Let Mr Murtas know the answer and you will have a chance to win a prize at assembly. Have a great week, Dan Murtas Last term we had many students receive ‘Green Cards’ for outstanding work in class. We also had several students receive ‘Merit Awards’ like Ava above Principal Puzzle

Help Needed On Wednesday night of week 10, the front desk receipting book went missing. We need all parents that came and paid money to the front office on the 1st April 2015 and have received a receipt between the numbers of 300—320 to either come in and see us or scan your receipt and email to [email protected] Some people paid by EFTPOS on this date also. They would have received a receipt but could also check their bank statements to see the transaction if they do not have their KSPS receipt.
