Welcome to Kathina at Tusita Hermitage
Dear Brothers & Sisters,
It gives me great joy to welcome everyone to Tusita’s Annual
Kathina Ceremony. We wish that by coming to Tusita, even for
a short while, you will have benefited and be inspired. Tusita
Hermitage has come a long way since the beginning days of
2008 but still much Dhamma practice, growth and propagation
is to be continued. We hope that you will join us in this great
Dhamma endeavor. The community and world change when
more people live and practice The Buddha’s Teachings. May
you all have a joyful Kathina celebration!
– Sister Subha, on behalf of the Organizing Committee
Kathina Ceremony
Kathina – an annual precious occasion for people to cultivate
merits by supporting monastics who spent Vassa (three-month
rainy season retreat) in diligent meditation. Throughout the
ages, lay people have donated robes and other material
necessities to monastics for them to continue diligent Dhamma
(the Teachings of The Buddha) practice. From this unwavering
lay support, monastics have been able to practice and pass on
The Buddha’s Teachings generation after generation until today.
This year, more than sixty monastics spanning six countries
have come to Tusita for Vassa and will attend Kathina Ceremony.

Land Needed! – Saving a Dhamma Environment
Encroaching housing development, rising land prices, increased meditator enrolment, constrained spaces,
and the demand for expanding Dhamma learning and community welfare projects sound the urgent call
for acquiring more land around Tusita Hermitage.
Land
! Tusita Hermitage may soon lose its
natural serene environments for
meditation practice, Dhamma
activities and welfare works. In recent
times, local developers are buying up
nearby lands at rapidly rising prices.
Tusita urgently needs to secure
neighboring lands to meet increasing
expansion demands and to preserve
the surrounding pristine
environment. 2012 Dhamma Camp at Tusita Hermitage and
Sematan Beach
Tusita Long-term Vision – additional land will provide:
• Quiet Cool Forest Areas – To protect natural forests for meditation and Dhamma practice
• Meditation Quarters Areas – For increasing meditator enrolment (Malaysian and international)
• New Massive Kitchen and Dining Building – To accommodate larger functions
• Activity and Learning Centers – Model environments for healthy learning and group activities
• Library – A safe ideal place for studying and leisure reading
• Elderly Home – To love and care for the seniors of the community
• Developmental Disabilities Home – A field of love and care for people with disabilities
• Orphanage – To give love, education, and hope for less fortunate children
• Kindergarten – To provide affordable quality education coupled with civic and moral teachings
• Recreation Areas – Park and sports facilities for the community
• Large Car-parks – A slot to park your car when you come
Tusita Hermitage’s Vision is to enrich the lives of all. That includes the surrounding neighborhoods
of Kuching to West Malaysians and overseas students. To this end, Tusita hopes to provide
environments that will benefit the whole community – young and old, rich and poor. Every
contribution large or small makes a positive difference.

Dāna (Generosity)
Dāna – an essential aspect to our spiritual development and
happiness. When one gives selflessly for a Noble cause, one
experiences a pure kind of joy. With this pure generosity
established in the heart, more wholesome qualities can easily
develop – all producing much good merits!
Lastly… On behalf of KBBS, I would like to take this opportunity to express
my appreciation and gratitude to:
The monks and nuns for their dedicated Dhamma practice
and spending Vassa at Tusita Hermitage, Kuching. Their
presence creates supportive conditions for us to grow in
the Dhamma and perform great merits.
KBBS Committee and devotees for their energetic selfless
Dhamma service and contributions.
May more fellow brothers and sisters join us in Dhamma learning
and practice at Tusita Hermitage.
May all the merits performed during Kathina be a supportive
condition for the attainment of Nibbāna (true lasting happiness).
By speaking of this Truth, may the Triple-Gem protect all beings!
May you be well, happy and
peaceful.
With mettā,
Sister Subha
