[Development project - knit wear][Project statement]The development project is all about creating thing that are new and different.To chose three market areas in this case:• Ladies• Mens • Interiors

Find a new theme for 2015/16 either Autumn/ Winter or Spring/ Summer. Eco Active 2016 Spring/Summer was chosen throughout this project.

In order for this project to be a developed, new skills must be achieved on theknitting machines. Using all three machines; Brother, Dubied and the Shemaseiki whole garment combining all of these machines with new techniques would show skill and full understanding of the machines and will create a well developed portfolio. Duringsampling a book was used to view new techniques to be learnt throughout the project and be developed into final samples (Susan Guagliumi, 2008).

Noted for this project all areas must be different, either it involve thecolour, texture or machine.

Interior final samples.Techniques used:• Print - was added to the finished sample to add a subtle colouring • Devora - again was added as a finishing effect to create striping strips.• Jacquard - was used as a reverse pattern to show long floats in the sample • Needle and thread - sewed at the back of the sample to secure pistachio shells in place.• Gathering yarn - to make a layered effect.

Ladies developed yarn.Techniques used:Worked in the print room to developcolours for the organic yarn that wasgoing to be used. Colours were chosenfrom looking in the colour theory part of the sketchbook. After choosingdye colours, a yarn hank was done toget better absorbance with the dye.

Ladies final samples.Here are some final samples, made with the space dye yarn that was developed.Stitches used was mainly twisting them in different ways, these were techniques that were found in the (Susan Guagliumi, 2008).

Mens final samples.Knitting cut cloth through some of the samples made a really unusual effect. Woven knitted strips designed for shoulder patches.

Learnt how to use a Shema Seiki whole garment machine. • Awarded a “Highly Commended" for Scantext Europe sponsored project.• Awarded 1st place for a Cotton Legend project brief• Recently completed year placement at Cotton Legend • Worked within critical path management• Designed for Mothercare and M&S• Completed training day at web4design (www.web4design.co.uk)

Employment:Cotton legend (sock company). Leister 2013/2014Completed year placement. I worked under Rachel Griffin and Sue Bunting. I was giventhe job title assistant designer. My main tasks were designing children wear, speck folders and sample requests. Also I chased up factory's and kept up to date with the sample logs and critical paths. As well as communicating with buyers.

Truly Scrumptious tea room. Aspull 2010- 2013 Working on coffee machine's, waited on tables. Helped prepare food in the kitchen and created most of the cakes for the shop also making afternoon tea and buffets forlarger function.

British Heart Foundation. Wigan. 6months to build up experiance.Worked at a charity shop, helping out. Worked on the till. Arranged cloths into sizeorder and displayed them. Displayed a shop window. Sorted out books into alphabetical order.

NGS, (Nation Garden Seam.) Clitheroe. Woodlands park. Charity work helping a friend.Helped out selling plants and cakes to visitors, and handing out teas and coffees. This experience helped me again by talking to the customers and listening to what they liked.

Personal Statement:To take a journey in design is to follow a path that is never ending. Design never stops growing and as a designer my ideas keep expanding. I have always loved designfrom being young and have always kept a sketchbook with me at all times, just incaseI see inspiration. A lot of my work is designed around nature and the outdoors, asan outdoor enthusiast I feel it is important to reflect ideas from what I love doing.I love rock climbing and this is where most of my texture ideas come from. I havealways said nature designs the world.
