1.1 NATIONAL PHILOSPHY OF
EDUCATION
Since Malaysia is a developing nation, we do need to have a philosophy ofeducation of our own.
In 988, National Philosophy of Education (Falsafah Pendidikan Negara) was developed. It was
formulated based on some of our policy documents and ideologies.
Falsafah Pendidikan Kebangsaan outlines all the terms, ideas and principles related to education
in our country.
It combines the goals, policies and educational practices to form a consistent, clear and logical
entity.
National Philosophy of Education
"Education in Malaysia is an on-going effort towards further developing the potential of
individuals in a holistic and integrated manner, so as to produce individuals who are
intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically balanced and harmonious, based on firm
belief in God. Our efforts are focused towards creating Malaysian citizen who are
knowledgeable and competent, who possess high moral standards, and who are responsible
and capable of achieving a high level of personal well-being and able to contribute to the
harmony and prosperity of the family, the society and the nation at large."
Formulation of the National Philosophy of Education
Sparked off in 1979, which concentrates on human development. This came from an excerpt on
Economic development is very rapid in todays world. The same goes for social developments
as well... we are faced with different types of elements both from within and without... most of
such elements are good, but they come from outside, and we are not very comfortable with them.
Therefore, we face another challenge that is human
development.
(Cabinet Report, 1979:226)

The Cabinet Committee recommended that human development be given dueemphasis that The
human development must also from discipline aspect important to behonest and dedicated to
their work, can think and act wisely guided by a respectful character ... need to be aligned to
the aims ofhuman development.
(The Cabinet Report, 1979:227)
And thus the combination and integration of Rukunegara, New Economic Policy and the
National Education Policy in inevitable.

2.O STEP OF THE GROUP PROCESS
2.1 PRE GROUP :
A counselor must be aware of the elements that influence the personality of the
control group. Counselors must show a serious attitude while carrying out their duties. A caring
attitude is also required to be followed by clients. Counselors also need to persevere with the
challenges faced in conducting the group. It relates to the operation of open and transparent
without anyemotions, thoughts and behaviors in disguise.
2.2 STAGE 1 : INITIAL STAGE :
Skills that are use in this technique is to identify more of the problems, the role and their
actions. Members actuallyhesitant to examine their own behavior without the active guidance of
the counselors. But the counselors cannot force members to give permission to the contrary
responses of silence when viewed member feels threatened. This technique should be used with
diplomacy so that members do not consider counselors as a busy body. Counselors may ask open
and closed questions. Mention their names when responding.
EXAMPLE : I introduced myself as a counselor to all my clients.. It is depend whether this is
individual or group counseling. After that, I will tell the purpose of group counseling session, the
duration, ethics, confidentiality during this session and I will remind all members any case that
involves threats and the case authorities are no longer subject to the confidentiality ethics. I
asked my clients to introduce themselves starting from my right side. As a counselor, I ask any

member to share the feeling and story problems to the group members to be completed, together
with the correct and effective method. After that, when all members of the group is finished
telling it, and their problems, as a counselor, I asked the opinion of members do a selection of
issues which should be solved first. After the agreement was made, a severe case were agreed to
discuss as well as jointly agreed to settle. This case is a problem faced by a young boy thats is
Jeremy
2.3 STAGE 2: TRANSITION STAGE :
Counselors expressed the feelings of members and show empathy and interest in the
opinions and views of members. According to Mahler (1969) and Dink meyer (1971) head of the
group members interact witheach other by sharing experiences, feelings and knowledge. It also
helps the participants to be more vigorous, moral and a positive feeling, which is the
participation of the members, will create a feeling of acceptance by the leader.
Example: Referring to the problem of Jeremy behaviors. As a counselor, I have to play an
important role to ensure that the problems faced byhim can be solved. As a counselor, I askhim
to ask questions relate to the problems that faced by him. As a counselor, I play the
confrontations that require the Jeremy to tell his problem to me . Using this technique, we should
be careful because the client may feel threatened if not ready to accept them. These skills are
useful to correct the imbalanceexcuses or statements or information provided by the client. In
this way, the Jeremy behaviors client will become more responsible for their actions and roles.

2.4 STAGE 3 : WORKING STAGE
As a counselor, we led the client to be able to build trust with all members of the
group. How to control every counselor or facilitator is different but the important thing is getting
to be close cooperation and confidence of client to achieve the objectives.
Example: Referring to the problem of Jeremy behaviors. As a counselor, I am creating a
therapeutic environment, these skills are particularly important in the discussion of divergent
opinions issued on aggressive. During this session lasted misunderstandings or clashes occurred
between Jeremy. As a counselor, I have to be careful to state that funny thing is not
valid. However, as a counselor, it is not supposed to block me and ignore the desire of Jeremy
behaviors to issue an opinion. Tension ofenvironment is not allowed and I should intervene,
especially when the members began to split and become aggressive when they interact. As a
counselor, I have to create a therapeutic environment to control the situation or the use of
strategies to interfere. This strategy should do with diplomacy so that the client not to doubt the
effectiveness of the counselor in the session.

2.5 STAGE 4 : TERMINATION STAGE
Formation of groups should be provided in a rational and well and should be
consistent with the type of client that will be held. These matters must be taken deep by a
counselor who leads a client that formed the trip. Hence the success of the maintenance group
will also depend on the conditions required by the prospective members will sit on the group.
Example: Referring to the problem of Jeremy behaviors . In this process, identify, label, explain
and explain again the information was given by members. As a counselor, I need to understand
the purpose stated directly or indirectly by Jeremy. There are three types of purposes that will be
issued by the client is concerned with the feelings and emotions, behavior and cognition. I should
be aware of information that is not clear on her to avoid talking about sensitive things on
emotions. As a counselor, try to solve the problems faced by theyouth involved based on the
theory of Carl Rogers. That is Person Centered Therapy or also known by client centered theory
which is more focus to humanistic approach. Carl Rogeremphasized the therapeutic relationship
in positive terms. He also used clients with a sincere appreciation of their own expertise in
themselves. Less of an "expert" he was more a co-facilitator in clients' own therapeutic journey.
Rogers also originally to understanding personality and human relationships, such as
