This facility has been several years in the making, and is going to be a fantasc resource for our College, and many other schools in the area. The Casey Tech School is not what many of us who can remember the ‘tech schools’ of old were. It is beer thought of as a ‘future technologies school.’ Put simply, the school is a hub of high end technology and equipment, ranging from virtual reality, robocs, science laboratory, and medical training. In their own words “Casey Tech School aims to deliver innovave and real-world educaon programs in partnership with local industries, helping to prepare students for the jobs of the future. Our programs emphasise the vital Enterprise and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathemacs (STEAM) skills needed for the 21st century.” I was spellbound by seeing our students engaged with a robot ‘paent’ that has hundreds of programmed ‘illnesses’ for students to invesgate; it turned out that our robot was programmed to be an elderly demena paent, so it was quite tricky picking up the signs and symptoms! Another highlight was talking to some students who very casually said “we are just synthesing a few hundred DNA in this machine!” I am very glad that we signed up as an official partner school, as it means that moving forward into 2019, our students will have an amazing opportunity to engage with this facility. Mr Robert Stark will be leading the work in this space. I look forward to hearing about the excing experiences ahead for our students. Check out their website at hps://www.caseytechschool.vic.edu. au/pages/home.aspx if you are interested it learning more. Check out some student reflecons later in the news. This week also saw our Year 12 VCAL students formally wrap up their secondary schooling. The students submied their porolios and were grilled by a panel of teachers for their final graduaon interview, to demonstrate how they have met the standards. It was fantasc to see the students so professionally dressed, and the interviews that I observed demonstrated that we have some fantasc students heading out into the world. Many thanks to all the VCAL teachers for their great support of our students, parcularly to Ms Lisa Murphy and her team for heading up the students’ pastoral care. A massive congratulaons to Mirrim students Christy B Thomas, Alyse Nagle, Diya Purohit, Riya Thomaskuy, Shehara Dheeerasinghe and Alicia Paranavithane, who this week delivered a fantasc fundraising acvity to support the vicms of Kerala Floods in India, which have devastated hundreds of thousands of people. When the girls came and saw me last term promising to dish up some amazing food, I had no idea it would be so tasty! Well done to the students, who raised a over $400 for the cause.

Principal’s MessageDear students, parents, guardians and community members,

This week I had the pleasure of accompanying some of our students to the official opening of the new Casey Tech School, which is located just down the road. This facility has been several years in the making, and is going to be a fantastic resource for our College, and many other schools in the area. Our programs emphasise the vital Enterprise and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) skills needed for the 21st century.” I was spellbound by seeing our students engaged with a robot ‘patient’ that has hundreds of programmed ‘illnesses’ for students to investigate; it turned out that our robot was programmed to be an elderly dementia patient, so it was quite tricky picking up the signs and symptoms! Another highlight was talking to some students who very casually said “we are just synthetising a few hundred DNA in this machine!” I am very glad that we signed up as an official partner school, as it means that moving forward into 2019, our students will have an amazing opportunity to engage with this facility. We have also been busy analysing the feedback from our Student Consultative Forum last week. The reflections from the students was very reaffirming that we are on the right track. Check out the report later in the weekly news for more information.

Wishing all a lovely weekend.

Casey Tech School Opening Day - Student Reflections

On the Tuesday the 16th of October, we went to the opening day of the new Chisholm Casey Tech School. This state-of-the-art facility had many interesting and advance learning tools that will be used by biomedical, IT and engineering students. It was a very fun experience visiting the facility and trying out some of the learning tools available there. We met with many important individuals such as Victorian Parliament officials. It is important that we celebrate the construction of this school as it is and will be a fundamental part of educating future engineers and biomedical professionals. As we got a tour around the facility we saw VR equipment, robots and even an artificial talking patient to train biomedical students. I would like to thank Mr Perry and Mr Stark for giving us the opportunity to participate in this event. by Aryan Majidi Mobaraki W9B

Last Tuesday our Principal Mr Keith Perry, Mr Robert Stark Student Manager of Bulen, Aryan and myself were lucky enough to attend the opening of Casey Tech School Berwick Campus. We were able to engage with students and staff of other schools undertaking group specific tasks in a hands-on learning environment, as well as to witness first hand the impacts that Casey Tech School has on the community.

The activity that I was involved in diagnosed Alex with a known disease. Alex is an interactive robot that is used to train aspiring nurses and medical workers. Alex can be programmed with symptoms from various diseases. Alex teaches learners to identify diseases based off the given signs. The symptoms that Alex displayed correlated with Alzheimer’s, thus we deemed Alex as an Alzheimer’s sufferer quite correctly. Afterwards we listed to speeches from various guests, most notably James Merlino, the Minister of Education and Deputy Premier of Victoria. The dignified guest speaker discussed the significance of Casey Tech School and the accompanying benefits. The day concluded with us socialising with students from other schools within the Casey area and with members of Government and we were given refreshments.

Casey Tech School (CTS) is a versatile hands-on STEAM phrontistery dedicated to bringing tomorrow’s education today. The state of the art facility help students to acquire the in demand skills for the future. Their programs range from macro to micro science and learning as well as fully operational technology that can be used professionally.

The opening of Casey Tech School means many things to the Berwick community. First and foremost, it means increased connectedness and community engagements. Casey Tech School is situated on the grounds of Chisholm campus. Students from there can interact with secondary students as well as trained industry professionals. Innovation and creativity are values that stem from the building of this school. People that learn in an environment where they are encouraged to design solutions to real life problems and provided with the resources they need to create and model their product allow for endless possibilities. Since the environment that attendees are taught in is very hands-on it allows for students to do on the job learning, which is a practical skill. With virtues such as innovation, creativity, connectiveness, community, engagement Casey Tech School is ultimately symbolic of the future of education, training and teaching. By Bridget Stokie 11V
