INTRODUCTIONletter From the direCtor

Summer is fast approaching, or already here, if you are reading this in June or July! Our summer classes and day camps are more interesting and varied than ever, and I hope you will take a look at the full brochure. Following are some of the highlights:

Adult classes begin in May and are held on evenings, Fridays, or Saturdays. Several new classes are being offered including: Contemporary drawing, learning to draw Freely, plein air painting, illustrative Watercolor, shooting and processing in Camera raw, and the Business of interior design. Featured adult workshops in July are: Cottage style design, with C.J. Van Daff-Zondervan, and portfolio development for the emerging artist with Elizabeth Ivy Hawkins.

portfolio Camp for Ages 16-18 will be held June 14-25, and July 12-23. Now in its 7th year, more than 100 students have already completed Portfolio Camp. Instructors this year are again Geoff Burd and Steve Peters.

New this year is a class for 5-6 year olds called kindergarten art! It will be taught by veteran art education professional Verna Lubben. Also new for 6-9 year olds are: Watercolor Farm, multicultural Crafts, and Birds of a Feather. For ages 8-12 new classes include: Felines & Canines, audubon’s Birds and parade of puppets. Ages 10-14 can choose from many new titles, including: introduction to manga, drawing super mario Brothers, and intro to painting. ipod painting, steampunk adventures, Global Clay Works, and Crafts with digital photographs are the new additions for 12-17 year olds.

I am particularly excited about the wide range of day camps we are offering the first two weeks of August. They are: Video Game design, trading Card Game design, Fairy Folk Crafts, drawing robots and Warriors, dragon riders, digital movie making, stop-motion animation, and restyled Fashion.

Remember to reserve the evening of July 29, from 6-8 p.m. for our popular Summer Open House and Portfolio Camp Closing Exhibition. It just wouldn’t be summer without it.

Call 616.451.2787, ext. 2012, or ask for Beth Lively or me for more information on any of the classes. Thank you for your interest in Continuing Studies!
