Dear Colleagues,

I’ve been a Kentucky state employee for less than five years. During that time, I’ve gotten to meet hundreds of fellow employees. Do you know what I’ve learned? I’ve learned that Kentucky employees are the most caring and passionate people I’ve ever worked with in regard to the services we all provide to the citizens of the Commonwealth.

You give unselfishly every day, whether you are building roads, helping people get jobs or education, protecting the environment, recruiting businesses, promoting tourism, or any number of services that we, as state employees, provide to our fellow citizens. We are the best, and our customer focus is the best. And now we have the opportunity to be even better.

By giving through the Kentucky Employees Charitable Campaign (KECC), you give hope to Kentuckians who require it most – families in need, people with disabilities, those who have suffered serious injuries and those with chronic disease. Your gift ensures stronger, healthier babies, protects children from abuse and helps communities across the Commonwealth provide opportunities for success in school, work and life.

Our role as public servants allows us to provide our customers – all Kentuckians – with their most basic needs. Our role as fellow citizens beckons us to do more and to inspire others to do more. Your contribution to the KECC charities gives support, treatment, solutions and prevention. It gives protection, education, intervention and encouragement. In a word, it gives hope.

I encourage you to consider the many needs of our neighbors throughout the state and make a pledge to make a difference. Visit KECC.org today. You can give hope if you just give.

Sincerely,

Secretary Tom Zawacki Education and Workforce Development Cabinet 2014 KECC Chair

THANK YOU STATE EMPLOYEES!

3

YES! I want to help my fellow Kentuckians. A pledge form will be provided by a campaign volunteer,

a fellow state employee. Only one form is required, even if you decide to support more than one charity. You can also get a pledge form at KECC.org.

Most people like to give through payroll deduction. It’s easy and lets you spread your gift over the course of a whole year.

Contributions can also be made with cash or check. Just clip them to your pledge form. Checks should be made payable to: KECC (Kentucky Employees Charitable Campaign).

Remember that your contribution to KECC may be tax-deductible (check with your accountant to make sure).

Be a Leader! One percent is all it takes to become a leadership giver! Every donation changes lives, but as you decide how you want to pledge this year, please consider joining the leadership circle. The chart below shows just how little it takes to make a big difference through leadership giving.

Want to do more? Become a Cornerstone Society Member. If you want to make an even bigger diff erence in your community, KECC has a unique leadership program just for you. It’s called the Cornerstone Society. Any pledge of $1,000 or more is considered a Cornerstone Gi . That’s just $41.67 or more per paycheck. Just talk to your KECC coordinator about obtaining a Cornerstone Society pledge card, fi ll it out and turn it in. It’s that easy, and it will help so many!

"Why should I release my name?”When KECC sends payment to the charity of your choice, they only know who made the gi if you give us permission to release your name and contact informa on on the pledge form. If your pledge is directed to one or all of the KECC Chari es, they will not use or release your informa on in any way other than to thank you.

Can I give to other charities? Yes, however, since the partner charities pay all KECC expenses, there is a 10 percent fee charged to non-partner charities to help offset the processing costs of these pledges. To avoid this, you may wish to donate directly to that charity or consider giving to one of the KECC partner charities. You may direct your gift to any 501(c)(3) organization by providing KECC with their address on the pledge form. To help hold down administrative costs, these gifts to other “write-in” charities must be at least a $50 cash gift or a payroll gift of $3 per paycheck.

Why the KECC Charities? The KECC Charities undergo rigorous scrutiny by the Personnel Cabinet and have met stringent guidelines. They are well-managed and accountable and they help people right here in the Commonwealth. These federations represent over a thousand charitable programs, and when you flip through the following pages, you will find that they touch all our lives.Whether you know someone struggling to regain mobility after an accident, a family member who recently lost their job, a loved one who is suffering from Alzheimer's Disease, or you want to make sure your kids start school ready to succeed...your pledge can help make the difference. Most importantly, 100% of collected pledges goes directly to help others when you give to one of the partner charities.

What is ‘pledge loss,’ and how does it affect my payroll deduction donation? Many state employees make good-faith payroll deduction pledges to various charities through KECC, but are unable to fulfill them. In most cases, these employees retire or change careers before their payroll deduction pledge is fulfilled. Because of this, KECC does not receive the full donation. The campaign cannot pass along funds it does not collect to the charities; therefore, all the charities share the actual amount of the pledge loss on payroll deduction pledges. The percent uncollected each year is small, averaging eight percent.

When will the charity of my choice receive the contributions I make?Cash pledges are sent in the first quarter following the end of the campaign. Because payroll deductions allow you to spread your donation over the course of a year, we put your gift to use right away -- donations to the partner charities are sent quarterly. Other “write-in” designations will be sent once all of the payroll deductions have been collected. Questions? Get the facts! Call us at 502-589-2296.

The staff and volunteers at the MDA clinic taught me how to live with DMD and made me feel like a normal kid again!

There is currently no known cure for MD, but modern treatments have been developed to prolong the lifespan of those children diagnosed. Through your support, organizati ons like the Muscular Dystrophy Associati on will be able to carry out their mission by helping kids like Hunter and conti nuing research to fi nd a cure for this life-threatening disease.

THANK YOU for helping give children like Cameron a hopeful future!

working together for stronger, healthier babies

Every year in the United States, more than half a million babies are born too soon, over 8,000 of them right here in Kentucky. With your help, we work to improve the health of babies and support families if something does go wrong.

The March of Dimes Greater Kentucky Chapter has one goal: to help babies in our community start life in the healthiest way possible. Through education and intervention, we help moms-to-be learn how to take care of themselves before, during and after their pregnancy.

We are also there when things don’t go as planned, providing comfort and information to families when a baby is born too soon.

GIVE.CONNECT.HELPFor more than 50 years, Community Health Charities has been connecting donors in the workplace with the nation’s most trusted and recognized health charities. In the state of Kentucky, we represent over 40 health charities.

Beyond the act of giving to a health issue that is important to you, we make it easy for you to develop a personal relationship with a credible health charity, enabling you to volunteer your time and get the health information that is most important to you and your family.

YOUR SUPPORT is crucial to providing local patient support services, research, prevention and educational outreach programs.

MAKE A DIFFERENCEMy name is Hunter and I am the 1 in 3,000

children in the U.S. that is diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, DMD, the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy.

I was 2 years old when my family and I found out I had DMD. I didn’t understand why I had to start going to the doctor all of the ti me or why my family started treati ng me diff erently. When my family and I needed a support system to turn to, we found the Muscular Dystrophy Associati on.

Disaster Relief Weather is unpredictable and, as a result,

storms can paralyze a geographic region in a ma er of minutes. CAP’s Disaster Relief program organizes volunteers to respond

to the needs of those impacted by a natural disaster. Responses may include everything

from home and property clean-up, to providing and distribu ng emergency

disaster supplies.
