Are you looking for a practical route into the industry you love? Do you want to gain recognised qualifications and valuable real-world work experience? With an apprenticeship, you’ll get the best of both worlds. Whether you’re about to leave school or are an adult who wants to retrain for a new career, whatever destination you’ve set your sights on, an apprenticeship will help you get there.

Money mattersWant to earn money while you train? As an apprentice you’ll be paid a salary. Apprentices aged 16-18 must be paid a minimum of £3.50 per hour, but many employers choose to pay more. You’ll even be paid for any time that you spend at College and will be entitled to holiday pay too.

EARNRecognised qualificationsAs an apprentice, you’ll gain recognised qualifications too. Your specific qualifications will depend on the subject and level of your apprenticeship, but all of them guarantee great progression opportunities so that you can continue to develop and boost your prospects.

LEARNReal-world experienceAs an apprentice you’ll work within a business to gain on-the-job practical training for at least 30 hours per week. Just like with any other job you’ll work alongside experienced professionals to develop industry specific skills and enjoy the same benefits as other staff, including a salary.

A £1000 grant is available for any employer hiring a 16-18

year old apprentice.

Apprentices can generally start any time of the year so there’s

no need to wait until September to recruit.

For a 19+ year old the Government will fund 90% of the cost of the training, unless

you are a large employer with a wage bill of £3 million+.

We offer advice and guidance to help levy-paying employers

make the most out of their apprenticeship levy fund.

If you are an employer with less than 50 staff apprenticeships are fully funded by the Government

for an 16-18 year old.

On an apprenticeship, you’ll work towards an appropriate level NVQ/Diploma and Functional Skills (English, Maths and ITC) qualification, plus a relevant knowledge based qualification such as a BTEC.

AccountingThe UK financial services industry contributed £176bn to the economy in 2015 and employs more than 2.2m people, but the sector still faces a skills gap and qualified accountants are in demand. As an accountancy apprentice you’ll learn how to maintain financial records, provide cost and revenue information, process transactions and analyse financial data.

Business and Administration Do you want to be part of the UK’s start-up revolution or are you destined for a career with a leading global brand? From marketing and HR to leadership and management, there are countless career opportunities in business. As a business apprentice you’ll learn how to manage projects, lead meetings, plan and deliver effective customer service and make crucial business decisions.

Customer Service Excellent customer service is crucial for businesses and according to the Institute of Customer Service, consistently achieving levels of customer satisfaction higher than the sector average is linked to better turnover growth, profit and productivity. As a customer service apprentice you will learn how to identify, recommend and implement service improvements, lead a team to meet targets and analyse and report on customer feedback.

ICT, Software and TelecomsLearn, develop and practice the skills required for future employment and career progression within the ICT sectors such as Database Administrators, Internet/Web Professional, IT Product Developers, IT Technical Sales Specialists, IT trainers, Multimedia Designers, Network Managers, Office equipment Sales Technicians, Software Developers/Programmers and System Analysts.

Digital Marketer/Marketing

Digital MarketerThe primary role of a digital marketer is to define, design, build and implement digital campaigns across a variety of online and social media platforms to drive customer acquisition, customer engagement and customer retention. A digital marketer will typically be working as part of a team, in which they will have responsibility for some of the straightforward elements of the overall marketing plan or campaign. The marketer will work to marketing briefs and instructions. They will normally report to a Digital Marketing Manager, a Marketing Manager or an IT Manager.

Digital MarketingDigital marketing and social media for business is the use of digital media to attract and engage with current and potential customers, for example online advertising, email marketing, social media campaigning, and search engine optimisation. The rich data generated enables granular analysis of what has worked, demanding analytical and creative skills above those demanded in traditional marketing and advertising.

Bricklaying A report by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors say a lack of skilled workers is a major factor limiting building activity. A key trade in the industry, bricklayers now make up just 3 percent of the UK’s construction sector workforce and skilled workers are in high demand. As a bricklaying apprentice, you’ll learn how to construct, maintain and repair masonry structures, erect complex structures, and undertake supervisory roles.

Construction Multi-Skills Construction contributes over £90bn to the UK economy each year and the sector has skills shortages that are further highlighted by the Government’s plan to boost infrastructure spending by billions and build 300,000 new homes each year. As a construction apprentice, you will learn the basic principles of plumbing, carpentry and tiling, develop the skills to repair and maintain masonry structures, carry out trade repairs and enter the Construction Skills Certificate Scheme (CSCS Card).

Electrical Installation Electricians are highly sought after and highly skilled specialists have excellent career prospects. Electricians are often involved in projects from concept and design planning, through to implementation, testing and handover. As an electrical apprentice you’ll learn how to plan, prepare and install electrical systems and equipment, diagnose and correct faults, inspect, test and commission work and complete an Electrotechnical Occupational Competence Unit assessed by the AM2.

Gas EngineeringLearn how to safely install, commission and decommission domestic gas appliances; as well as handle ongoing service and repair. Over the two-year course, we’ll provide you with outstanding training at our purpose built Gas Training facility at Rodbaston College. After successfully completing the course, you’ll qualify with a Level 3 Gas Engineering Apprenticeship.

Plumbing A report published by AMA Research estimates that the plumbing contracting market will be worth £17.1billion by 2019. The industry offers diverse career paths, good earning potential and the opportunity to run your own business. As a plumbing apprentice, you’ll work with domestic plumbing, heating and water systems, install, commission and service sanitation systems, test, commission and decommission gas pipework and much more.

Property Maintenance From Property Engineers and Maintenance Managers to Multi-skilled Technicians and Premises Managers, there are a wide range of career opportunities for skilled workers in the property maintenance sector. As a property maintenance apprentice you’ll develop the skills and knowledge to ensure that electrical, plumbing, plant, safety systems and equipment are kept in working order and that the appearance of a building’s interior and exterior is well maintained.

Site Carpentry Based on the latest figures from the British Woodworking Association, the carpentry industry has an estimated turnover of £3.8 billion and remains at the heart of the UK’s manufacturing sector. As a carpentry apprentice you’ll gain the skills to install first and second fixing components, maintain structural and non-structural carpentry work, set up and use cutting and shaping machines and manufacture products.

Site Supervisors Supervising and overseeing the direction of a project and ensuring specifications are met is crucial to the success of any construction project. From reviewing progress and monitoring costs to managing workload and maintaining quality a Site Supervisor plays a vital role. An apprenticeship in site supervision will equip you with project management and leadership skills and give you health and safety and quality control knowledge.

Agriculture/ StockpersonIn a report published by the NFU, agriculture contributed around £24 billion of revenues to the UK economy in 2015 and as technological advancements continue, career prospects are becoming increasingly diverse. As an agriculture apprentice, you’ll maintain and healthy growth of crops, monitor conditions for livestock, operate tractors and farming machinery and establish site hygiene and bio-security.

Animal Care The UK Animal Care market is worth £1 billion to the economy and there are a wide range of career opportunities for employees with specialist skills. As an animal care apprentice, you’ll gain an understanding of animal welfare and develop the skills to deliver basic treatments. You’ll also prepare and maintain suitable animal accommodation and learn how to control, exercise and care for a wide variety of animals.

Business Administration for Veterinary Practices From data management and customer service to project and facilities management, business success often relies on the skills of their front-of-house staff. Designed for those who work within a veterinary practice this apprenticeship is designed for those who would like to further enhance their administration, leadership and management skills to improve business efficiencies, service levels and overall performance.

Dog Grooming Britons’ view their pets as a beloved family member and in 2015 spending on pets surpassed £4.6 billion for the first time. The ongoing trend for pampered pets has seen a dramatic rise in demand for dog grooming experts. As a dog grooming apprentice you’ll learn how to handle, retrain and bathe dogs while developing a wide variety of grooming techniques with different breeds. You’ll also learn how to monitor animal health and advise and consult with clients.

Green Keeping There are over 2500 golf courses in Britain and it is estimated that the total economic activity of the sport exceeds a staggering £10 billion per annum. Golf course maintenance and management is crucial to the sport and highly skilled greenkeepers are essential. As a green keeping apprentice, you’ll develop the skills to maintain greens, fairways, tees and areas of rough. You’ll also learn how to prepare the course for play, apply treatments to ensure quality playing surfaces and maintain and renovate hazards.

Horticulture From plant science and technology to heritage and conservation, the horticulture industry provides a variety of career opportunities. As a horticulture apprentice, you’ll learn how to prepare ground for seeding and planting and plan and manage the control of pests. As a sports turf apprentice, you’ll learn how to maintain the health and condition of sports turf surfaces, carry out repairs and operate machinery. You’ll also develop skills in planning sports areas and estimating resource requirements for landscaping projects.

Veterinary Care/ Veterinary Nursing An extremely rewarding career, veterinary nurses work alongside surgeons to provide skilled supportive care for animals and may also undertake minor surgery, medical treatments and diagnostic tests under veterinary supervision. As a veterinary nursing apprentice you’ll learn about infection control and how to handle injured animals appropriately. You’ll also explore operating theatre practices and develop knowledge of diagnostic imaging and laboratory diagnostics.

As consumer spending in the industry continues to rise, this trend looks set to continue and the sector is looking for innovative new employees with practical skills and training. From hair colouring and correction to creative styling, cutting and client consultation, as a hairdressing apprentice, you’ll develop the skills you need for a rewarding career.

Logistics and Warehousing The turnover for the UK’s logistics sector is a huge £1 trillion and the sector contributed over £1.24 billion GVA to the UK economy in 2016/2017. From warehouse operatives to logistics managers the industry employs over 2.5 million staff and career opportunities are increasingly diverse as technology drives progress. As a logistics apprentice you’ll work in logistical operations to assemble, dispatch and supervise orders. You’ll also develop the skills to improve operations performance and lead a team.
