Issue 6 Term 3 Week 10 2019
Term 4 Commences Monday 14th
October
Student Enrolment Cap
As of Term 4 2019 The NSW Department of Education
will implement a strict enrolment cap to assist schools to
meet their obligations under the Education Act 1990-to
ensure that every student has a place at their local
school. The enrolment cap is the number of students that
can be enrolled at a school based on the school’s
permanent accommodation. Each school with a local
intake area will have a cap set by the NSW Department
of Education from Term 4 2019.
Within this enrolment cap, a number of enrolment places
must be kept aside for the likely number of local students
who will need to enrol during the year. For this reason, a
school will not take non-local students once they
reach their cap, unless there are exceptional
circumstances.
In line with the revised NSW Department of Education
Enrolment Policy the number of students a school may
enrol is limited by the availability of classroom space.
Due to the high number of local applications Colyton
Public School is currently unable to accommodate non-
local students.
100 point Residential Check for Local Enrolments As of Term 4, 2019 there has been an update to current
enrolment procedures and as a result schools require
additional information to support new student
applications.
To establish and verify a child’s residential address, the
parent or carer with whom this child lives must produce
original documents with their full name and address
within the catchment of their local school. Schools now
require a 100-point residential address check to verify
that the child being presented for enrolment lives within
the intake area.
Kindergarten Enrolments
If your child turns 5 on or before the 31st July 2020
they are eligible to commence formal schooling in 2020.
If you are a local resident and intend to enrol your child
in Kindergarten at Colyton Public School in 2020 you will
need to complete an Application to Enrol in a NSW
Government School, this form can be collected from
the front office.
District Athletics Carnival On Wednesday 4th September, 53 students attended
the St Marys District Athletics Carnival at Blacktown
International Sports Park.
Every student represented Colyton with pride. They
demonstrated skill and a high level of sportsmanship. We
also received a number of compliments from teachers of
the attending schools running the events.

We are delighted to have four of our Colyton students
artworks exhibited at The Armory Gallery at Sydney
Olympic Park once again this year.
Nowshin Abtahee, Vikram Prasad, Methuki Wanni
Arachchi and Rytham Singla have their outstanding
work on display from 14 September until 16 November
2019, 10am until 4pm daily. Entry is free, if anyone is
interested in viewing their work and this wonderful
exhibition of students work from Kindergarten to Year 10.
Spelling Superstars Our four super spellers competed at The Regional
Spelling Bee on Thursday September 10.
Congratulations to all our competitors who achieved a
combined effort to crown Colyton overall winners in our
region!
Rhtham Singla and Lamein Oatsomm competed in the
Junior Division.
Yash Singla and Muhammad Asif competed in the
Senior Division.
The Senior Division ended in a tough battle between
both Yash and Muhammad. After spelling correctly to the
top level, the competition moved on to unseen words.
Eventually Yash ended victorious. He will now compete
at The State Final on Friday November 8. We wish him
all the best for this event and we are very proud of all the
super spellers who have moved through the competition
so successfully this year.
Fizzics Education Show
On Monday and Tuesday of Week 8 Stage 1 and 2 had
the opportunity to attend a live science show, presented
by Fizzics Education.
Through the use of liquid nitrogen and some very cool
experiments like, smashing a tennis ball, shrinking a
balloon and freezing a flower students found out how
solids, liquids and gases change when rapidly heated
and cooled.
After the show, Abdullah Khan in 2H commented
“Did you know that liquid nitrogen is exactly -195.6
degrees Celsius? My favourite part of the incursion was
when he froze the objects in liquid nitrogen and started
cracking them for absolutely no reason. He cracked a
rose, a ping pong ball and even a balloon!”
Ciara Winterstein in 4J stated that “I enjoyed the science
incursion. I liked how he used the liquid nitrogen and how
it froze something straight away”.
A great time was had by all, and a big thank you to CPS
for providing the opportunity for the students to attend.

Has Your Child Lost Their Prescription Glasses In The Last 12 Months?
We might have them. We have had a large number of prescription glasses handed into the office over the past year and no one has collected them. Please contact the office on 9625-8185 at your earliest convenience if your child has lost their glasses. Any uncollected glasses will be disposed.
Holiday Security During the holidays, if you are passing the school, you will notice that the Cleaners and the General Assistant will continue to work on school premises. If you see any activity within the school grounds that appears to be related to a break-in or vandalism, please contact school security on:
