What is Air Conditioning?

You may already be familiar with air conditioning as it is in our cars, places of work and shops that we visit. DId you know that it is also on the rise in our homes. Often only installed in London penthouse apartments, air conditoninig is increasingly becoming a popular choice for our homes across the UK, the irse of summer houses, home offices and property renovations all play a part in this rise, due to the trend of flexible working, working from home as well as the increase in hotter, drier summers.

What ever your reasons and what ever you need their will be an air conditioning system to meet your needs.

The basic principles of an air conditioning system is to provide the process of cooling down or heating up an area often refered to as ‘space heating’. This brochure will go through, the different types of air conditioning systems avilable and which one best suits your individual needs.

You do need planning permission approval for air conditioning to be installed in your home.

Types of air conditioning

Sleek, modern designs and the latest innovation is what you can expect from a brand like LG Electronics. Which model is right for me?

When choosing an air conditioner, there are various things to take into account. For example, a small room might require a small 2.5kW model, while a large open-plan area might need a require a large 9kW model or even more. To get an accurate idea the following details need to be taken into account and LG would recommend your installer sizes the units for you.

Your installer will look at the size of the room (length, width and height), and the type of room - lounge, kitchen, bathroom or bedroom? The size and orientation of the windows, glass and doors. Does the room have large north facing windows or small window facing a courtyard? Even the regional climate plays a part, will you need more heating than cooling. How well is your home/room insulated.

All of the above factors need to be taken into account and that’s why LG recommend you always talk to your installer.

R32 Refrigerant

Due to accelerated global warming and the destruction of the ozone layer, various international conventions and meetings have been held to enhance restrictions to the use of refrigerant or enforce the use of eco-conscious refrigerants. R32 refrigerant has a low global warming potential.

In order to reduce environmental destruction, refrigerant R32 is internationally acclaimed for being Eco-Concisous. It has the unprecedented feature as a low volume refrigerant that is as efficient as any conventional refrigerant; thus qualifying as a green refrigerant.

Air Conditioning systems operate on fluronitaed greenhouse gases.

Over-sized, under-sized and the right size unit.

LG have air conditioning systems in various capacities to ensure that you have the right size unit for your home.

Models to powerful for your room size will probably run lots of short cycles to achive the ideal temperature. That’s like tapping the accelerator of your car to maintain the ideal speed instead of applying steady pressure and this can result in the room getting too cold or hot and increase the power usage, costing more to run and more maintenance on the system. Models undersized come with their own problems. They will need to constantly run at maximum output in order to try to keep the space cool or hot, reducing the units life due to excessive wear.

What is the right size unit?

Heating a home in the UK accounts for around 60% of a homes total energy usage. Using air conditioning to heat your space will reduce your energy costs and lower you CO2 emissions when compared to fossil-fuel boilers for heating, such as gas or oil.

Energy Management

To save energy consumption you need to ensure that your unit has been correctly sized. Air conditioning units under 12kW will have an energy label scaled from A+++ to D scale. You can also improve the efficiency of your home with insulation, double glazing and thermostatic control.

LG Air Conditioners have precise temperature control. Set the thermostat of your air condioning unit to a reasonable temperature so that the unit does not use more power than it needs to. LG’s Active Energy Control Function allows you to cap energy consumption to improve energy efficiency and reduce power consumption at a reduced cooling output.

Types of Air Conditioning Systems for Your Home

LG ARTCOOL Gallery Unit

The ARTCOOL Gallery unit, designed and manufactured by LG Electronics is a square wall mounted unit that connects to a single outdoor unit or as part of a multi split system. The image inside the frame can be changes to suit your interior or use as a photo frame.

Single splits

A split system air conditioner comprises of an outdoor unit and an indoor unit connected by refrigerant pipework. They are used to cool and/or heat a single room.

Multi splits

A multi split air conditioning system comprises of an outdoor unit, connected by refrigerant pipework to multiple indoor units which will cool and/or heat a number of different rooms within your home (up to 7 indoor units to one outdoor unit).

Types of indoor units

Indoor units come in many different designs and capacities to suit all requirements. Wall mount units, floor standing units, ceiling suspended and ducted (ducted units are hidden in a ceiling and only grilles are visible in the room).

Wi-fi Connectivity smartThinQ

Each individual member of your family can customise the air conditioner temperature and fan speed accordingly and then save the settings in their app to run it later. These settings can be saved for each air conditioner too. Control your air conditioners via the app on smart Internet devices - Android or iOS based smart phones.

Wi-Fi modem (PWFMDD200) is required for the ARTCOOL Gallery (and standard wall mount unit not featured in this brochure).

Installation

It is important to consider the installation process. An air conditioning system must be installed by a qualified engineer that holds an F-Gas certificate. It is your responsibility as the home owner to ensure the system is installed by a suitably qualifed engineer. Check the website to see if your installer holds an F-Gas certificate here: https://fgasregister.com/f-gas-certified-company-search

In order to gain LG’s extended product warranty the installtion needs to be done by an engineer who has also attended LG’s product technical training course.

Your installer will be able to advise you on the best place to install your indoor unit for maximum efficiency and best product performance.

You will require planning permission as air conditioning offers cooling as well as heating. The outdoor unit will need to be situated outside of the property with enough space around it for optimum airflow and installed either on wall brackets or a hard base. We recommend that the unit, if floor standing is mounted onto vibration feet.

Installation costs can vary due to the amount of different varibles involved.
