Speakers

Paul Harrison—Implementation of an Integrated Quality, H&S Programme in

Hire Business.

Paul graduated from Massey University with a B.Technology (Food Technology) in 1985 and worked in Australia for

five years before returning to NZ in 1990. Working in the food ingredients sector in Australia and New Zealand, he

became a shareholder and technical director of Hawkins Watts before selling his shares in late 2011. In early 2014

Paul chaired a consortium to establish Upper Hutt Hire and has been a Director and Shareholder of the business

since.

Paul is a Fellow of the NZ Institute of Food Science and Technology, and a lead food safety auditor. He is also a

member of the NZ Institute of Directors and a member of the Massey University Food Pilot advisory board. Paul is

also studying for a Diploma in H&S at SIT.

Kate Ashcroft—Enforceable Undertaking

Kate Ashcroft, Copeland Ashcroft Law. Kate has specialised in employment and health and safety throughout her career, and is passionate about providing commercially pragmatic, tailored solutions to client issues. In 2015 and 2016, Kate was recognised by the international legal directory Asia Law as a “Leading Lawyer” in New Zealand. She regularly presents at conferences and contributes articles to various publications on employment and health and safety issues.

Kate acts for employers across a range of industries, giving strategic, compliance and best practice advice on non-contentious matters as well as providing representation in disputes. Her experience includes work with a large top tier national law firm, an award winning national employment law boutique, and on secondment in-house in both the private and public sectors.

Kate is Tauranga based but regularly travels to Hamilton and Auckland and connects with clients throughout New Zealand.

Kate is a member of the Auckland District Law Society Incorporated’s Employment Law Committee, the NZLS Wom-en in Law Committee (Tauranga) and of the Institute of Directors.

Helen Parkes—Reporting to the Board

Helen Parkes Helen is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Occupational Health and Safety, a Prince 2 Practitioner and a former Environmental Health Officer. This gives her a broad view of safety and health and a unique perspec-tive that she brings to her clients. She is tertiary qualified in: Occupational health and safety, Environmental health (vet.aux), Public health and Marine geography

David J Williams—Undercover Brother (a case study on worker engagement)

Knowledge Management Specialist. Markham Williams & Associates Ltd

David is a boatbuilder by trade, a teacher by vocation and business consultant by profession.

David is currently completing a PhD Thesis on “Effective Knowledge Management at the Supervisory Level in Select-ed New Zealand Industries.”

With his extensive experience on the shop floor, in education, and in management, he is uniquely positioned to pro-

vide strategic advice, coaching and training on what is arguably the most important resource in business today –
