Goal:This project was an architectural exploration in the creation of a dwelling outside of what would be considered the normal human habitat. We were given the challenge of designing a space located on top of an existing building space of which occurred on top of an existing billboard sign. The challenge was to solve design issues that come with having a habitat located in such an unusual treehouse-like space. Problems to be Solved:1.) The space is right next to the highway so the occupant is going to require a means of privacy.2.) Obvious disturbance of traffic sounds.3.) Means of access to enter the space.4.) How to break up the long rectangular shape created by the length and width of the billboard itself so it is a less monotonous & confining living situation. Concept / Solutions:1.) Create a space with maximum privacy by designing full height walls.2.) Clear story windows have been provided that allow for the absorption of the sounds produced from the highway.3.) A curved facade that acts as a light scoop to bring natural light into the space developed a livable sense of tranquility to the interior 4.) Walls placed along the southern facing side allow for privacy of the occupant.

Curving the facade of the billboard house allows daylight to enter spaces with little to no windows,by washing down the curved wall in order to light the space. This design allows the space to combinethe uses of translucency, transparency, and opacity.

Barton Springs Bath HouseGoal:Barton Springs is a famous public pool house in Austin, TX that people frequent throughout the year for outdoor activities. Do you want to add how the building is used like what type of activities like canoeing, biking, swimming, etc.? The main building on the site is starting to appear run down & in need of renovation. Our project was to redesign the building so that it can be enjoyed by all age groups. Problems to be Solved:1.) The main building on the site is starting to appear run down & in need of renovation Concept:Austin is a city known for being artistic so I wanted to design a building that reflects the regional culture of this capital city and captures the surrounding natural environment. By creating perforations on the skin system, it allows light to enter the space in a playful manner and becomes a main focal point in providing a whimsical environment. The main entry path is also backlit to create unique shadow formations inside the building. This enhances the experience of entering the building early in the morning or after 6 pm due to the direction of the sun’s path at these times of day. The changing shapes and forms of the shadows bring attention to the entry point and help direct the public into the building. The rotation of the skin system corresponds to site features. The skins system becomes perpendicular to the angle of the riverwhile the interior of the building faces true north

Goal: Create an urban forest in the middle of Deep Ellum Problems: Deep Ellum has a severe lack of vegetation throughout the area Concept: Deep Ellums lack of vegetation inspired me to create an urban forest in the middle of Deep Ellum. I decid-ed my design would correspond to the idea of peeling the urban fabric to reveal the nature underneath. By peeling the surface, nature is revealed with no sense of organization to the placement of the trees and vegetation begins to wash up the walls as well. The louvres along the surface of the facade act as a water collection system that allows water that is washing down the surfacce of the building and rain to be collected and �ltered back in to the building.

Louvers allow for collectionor rain water to be filteredback into the building.

This second floor window provides the view of the secondary park incorporated into the parking lot. By being able to see the park and a few scattered buildings, this view is where you’re beginning to see the creation of that urban fabric.By the time you reach the top floor of the building, there is an outdoor terrace where you would be able to see all ofDeep Ellum and Downtown Dallas. Through seeing all of these buildings, it shows the concept of witnessing the creationof the urban fabric of Dalls.

This is the first floor of the building featuring the ticket booth and cafe. This floor is surrounded on three sides with completely solid walls and the 4th wall provides a view of the exterior park. By limiting your view with nothing but the park it becomes the idea of revealing the nature underneath the urban fabric.
