Welcome! It’s been a busy summer here on campus with area youth experiencing a variety of summer camps—from career exploration to creating a video game—we’ve had a blast sharing Lifelong Learning and KCC with area students, and now we’re ready for fall.

This year we’re introducing our new Lifelong Learning Membership program and we hope you’ll be excited by all of the opportunities that come with being a member. For only $25 a year you will get discounts on classes, luncheons with keynote speakers, “salons” using TED Talks to start the conversation, a monthly Book Club; plus, we’ll be adding features as we move forward.

We’ve added an assortment of “new” classes this semester with topics both useful and fun! We’ll continue to offer the majority of the evening classes at the RMTC out in Ft. Custer on Hill Brady Road, and the daytime classes in the Davidson Building on the south side of campus.

We look forward to seeing you in a Lifelong Learning class this fall!

Ghosts, Spirits, Entities: Understanding Otherworldly Beings What are these things that go ‘bump in the night’ making us feel uneasy and fearful? In this presentation we’ll share several true experiences that demonstrate the differences between ghosts, spirits and entities. Many of us, even now in modern times, are intimidated, haunted, and harassed by spirits in our own homes. Most of us don’t speak of our experiences, fearing disbelief from our friends and family. As you offer up your personal experiences in this class you will gain insight into identifying the disincarnate entity you have come into contact with and how to deal with it. Remember, knowledge is power and there’s nothing better than a great ghost story!Wednesday • 11/1/17 • 6-9 pm • $25 (member) $30 (non-member)HOLV CD003-02 • Jewel Shelden

Developing Dementia Dexterity We hear a lot about the impact of demen-tia on older adults. Nearly all of us have had a family member impacted, are dealing with the disease ourselves, or have concerns about developing it. The chances are high … especially as you age. In this fact-based program we’ll answer questions to help you improve your knowledge and awareness. My mom has dementia, does that mean I’m at greater risk? Does it really matter what I eat in terms of prevention? What can I do if I or a loved one has been diag-nosed? Do brain games really work? We’ll answer these questions and many more, as well as learn about types of dementia, how to love your brain, and the role of physical health, movement, and nutri-tion in prevention and treatment. We’ll also identify risk factors and learn about resources to support anyone impacted by the disease. Aging Mastery Program (AMP) Life expectancy has increased dramati-cally over the past 50 years, yet people are generally unprepared for this increased longevity. This class will introduce you to AMP, a nationwide effort designed by the National Council on Aging that offers an innovative approach to guide individuals through this phase of life. This compre-hensive and fun approach to aging well encourages people to take actions to enhance their health, financial well-being, social connectedness, and overall quality of life. Central to the AMP philosophy is the belief that modest lifestyle changes can produce big results and that people can be empowered and supported to cultivate health and longevity. Equally important, the program encourages mastery by devel-oping sustainable behaviors over time. Strategies for Effective CaregivingAs our population continues to age, it is likely that at some point, if not now, you will become a caregiver. For most, being there for your loved one is a core value and something you want to do. However, it can be a stressful and emotional jour-ney. Caregiver stress and having feelings of frustration, exhaustion, sadness and, yes, joy are normal. Caregiver burnout is common, especially if caregivers are not able to give time to their own needs. In this program, we’ll discuss caregiver stress, identify ways to address burnout, learn about programs and resources designed to support caregivers, identify burnout prevention strategies, and provide oppor-tunity for sharing and supporting other caregivers in our community. NOTE: Free respite care to allow caregivers to attend this program is being made avail-able by CareWell Services SW. Once you register, contact Mary Peterson at 269-966-2450 to arrange for this no cost respite care.Thursday • 11/30/17 • 1-3 pm • $10 (member) $20 (non-member)PDEV CK002-71 • Karla Fales & Mary Peterson
