SCENES OF MY TOUTH. t BY JOHN RA.NNIE. SCENES ofmyyouth ! ycor.ce were de.T, Though sadly I those charms survey ; I once was wont to lingo- - here, From eail) dawn to closing day. Scenes of my joulh ! pale sorrow sling A shade o'er all j our beauties now, Andiobathe monlct.ts of their wings, Th.it scatter'd pieauie as they slew While still to heighten ev'ety care, Reflection tills me such tliirgs uere. JTwas here a tender motherstrove To keep my happiness in Mew J I smil'd beneath a parent's love, That soft compassion ever know ' ji whom the virtues all.combin'd, On whom I could with faith relyj . Towhom my heart and soul wcrejoin'd By mild affection's primal tie; Who smiles inhe.wen, exempt from care, While I remember stick things uere. 'Twas here, where calm and tranquil e O'eip.ijs the peasant for his toil, That, first in blessings, I vvai blest With growing friendship's open sm'.le. Mv fnend far distant dooin'd to roam, Now bra' es the fury of the seas : He sled his happy peaceful home, His little foitune to increase; While bleed afresh the wounds of care, When 1 remember such things vteie. 'Tw'as here, e'en in this blooming grove, I fondly ga.'d on Laura's channs. Who blushing ow'd a mutual love, . nd melted in my youthful arms. '1 hough hard the soul conflicting stings Vet sate, the cuicl tyrant, bure SVr fmm sight, the charm of life, The I nly maid whom I adore. U sills mj soul w ith tender care. When I remember such things were. Here first I saw the morn appear Oi guiltless pleasure's smiling day : I met the dazzlingbrightnesshere, Here mark'd the soft declining ray. Behold the skies, whose streaming light Gave splendor to the partingsun, Now lost in sorrow sable night And all their midnight gloiics gone r Till death in pity ends my care, I must remember such things were. THE ENGLISH JUBILEE, One of the London papers, The British Press, publiflied some days befoie the 26th of October, the day on which the king commenced the fiftieth vear of his reign, contains the following humorous ar- ticle. " We hive taken some pains to ascertain the different modes in which it has been re- commended to celebrate the approaching entry of his majesty into theSftieth year ofhi3 reign ; a fubjeft which has engrof-fe- d the public atteimoj) for some time. 'The Tallow Chandlers recommend a general illumination. It is the moll ef fieftual mode, they aflert, ofdifplaying the loyalty of the people. 11 The Tailors advile that every man should appear in a new suit of Windsor uniform. His loyalty will then appear as fliCTas buckram. " The Clothiers back the recommenda- tion of the Tailors, limply adding, that the cloth be of British manufacture. ' '1 he Butchers contend, elm ther'e should he a general fVafl ; but with this difference tha- - carcase butchers are for giving the.r loyalty wliolefale, 111 roasted oxen aid Iheep, while the cutting butch-ri- s aie in savour bf joints. " The iufolvent debtors advise, that the prisons and lock up houses be all thnwn oieu. The Coalers, Lawyers, and Bailiffs, conceive that libertv of this kind would tend to licentiousness. " The Old Maids contend that all In- gle men, between 17 and 37 years of age, be compelled to marry on that day. md thus endeavour to sill up the chasm lest in our population by the late expeditions. " The Milliners recommend all the la- dies to appear i new Jubilee caps and bonnets." Dublin TVoe. itt Among the vailous illuniinatory that took place here oil Thurs- day lad, it would be unfair to pass unno- ticed that of a Gohler's Stall in North Fiedenck ftrect whii.h displayed a very appearence, particularly at a, (iilfaiice. Twelve candles were placed on the roof of the bulk, which prepara- tory to the Jubilee had been white wadi-e- d and otherwise improved and ornainen. ted. Honefl Jobfon surveyed his illumin- ated building with extacy, and frequently liouted out God save the king ; May he live to wear out ten thoiifniiH iuirt f flioesand as many boots ! May the king live for ever, and I live to see it and then die I ! I Female Duet dud took place late- ly between two.yonng ladies at Ratifbon, the one 14 and the other i5Syears of age, having quarrelled ahout the affections of a lover, povided thcmfelves with a case of piflols, and in the rage pf their jealousy sired at each other, with the muzzles touching ; one of thejn was killed on the spot and the other . dangerbufly wounded. There is now redding at Stafford a man ot the name of Nolan who is at present married to hrcno- - sixth wise, and 1 a by the whole 73 children. SCENES OF MY TOUTH.

t BY JOHN RA.NNIE.

SCENES ofmyyouth ! ycor.ce were de.T,Though sadly I those charms survey ;

I once was wont to lingo-- here,

From eail) dawn to closing day.Scenes of my joulh ! pale sorrow sling

A shade o'er all j our beauties now,

Andiobathe monlct.ts of their wings,

Th.it scatter'd pieauie as they slew

While still to heighten ev'ety care,

Reflection tills me such tliirgs uere.

JTwas here a tender motherstrove

To keep my happiness in Mew J

I smil'd beneath a parent's love,

That soft compassion ever know' ji whom the virtues all.combin'd,

On whom I could with faith relyj .

Towhom my heart and soul wcrejoin'd

By mild affection's primal tie;Who smiles inhe.wen, exempt from care,

While I remember stick things uere.

'Twas here, where calm and tranquil e

O'eip.ijs the peasant for his toil,

That, first in blessings, I vvai blest

With growing friendship's open sm'.le.

Mv fnend far distant dooin'd to roam,

Now bra' es the fury of the seas :

He sled his happy peaceful home,

His little foitune to increase; While bleed afresh the wounds of care,

When 1 remember such things vteie.

'Tw'as here, e'en in this blooming grove,

I fondly ga.'d on Laura's channs.

Who blushing ow'd a mutual love, .

nd melted in my youthful arms.'1 hough hard the soul conflicting stings

Vet sate, the cuicl tyrant, bureSVr fmm sight, the charm of life,

The I nly maid whom I adore.

U sills mj soul w ith tender care. When I remember such things were.

Here first I saw the morn appearOi guiltless pleasure's smiling day :

I met the dazzlingbrightnesshere,Here mark'd the soft declining ray.

Behold the skies, whose streaming lightGave splendor to the partingsun,

Now lost in sorrow sable nightAnd all their midnight gloiics gone r

Till death in pity ends my care,

I must remember such things were.

THE ENGLISH JUBILEE,

One of the London papers, The BritishPress, publiflied some days befoie the26th of October, the day on which theking commenced the fiftieth vear of hisreign, contains the following humorous ar-

ticle." We hive taken some pains to ascertain

the different modes in which it has been re-

commended to celebrate the approachingentry of his majesty into theSftieth yearofhi3 reign ; a fubjeft which has engrof-fe- d

the public atteimoj) for some time.'The Tallow Chandlers recommend a

general illumination. It is the moll effieftual mode, they aflert, ofdifplayingthe loyalty of the people.

11 The Tailors advile that every manshould appear in a new suit of Windsoruniform. His loyalty will then appearas fliCTas buckram.

" The Clothiers back the recommenda-tion of the Tailors, limply adding, that thecloth be of British manufacture.

' '1 he Butchers contend, elm ther'eshould he a general fVafl ; but with thisdifference tha-- carcase butchers are forgiving the.r loyalty wliolefale, 111 roastedoxen aid Iheep, while the cutting butch-ri- s

aie in savour bf joints." The iufolvent debtors advise, that

the prisons and lock up houses be allthnwn oieu. The Coalers, Lawyers, and Bailiffs, conceive that libertv of thiskind would tend to licentiousness.

" The Old Maids contend that all In-

gle men, between 17 and 37 years of age,be compelled to marry on that day. mdthus endeavour to sill up the chasm lestin our population by the late expeditions.

" The Milliners recommend all the la-

dies to appear i new Jubilee caps andbonnets."

Dublin TVoe. ittAmong the vailous illuniinatory

that took place here oil Thurs-day lad, it would be unfair to pass unno-ticed that of a Gohler's Stall in NorthFiedenck ftrect whii.h displayed a very

appearence, particularly at a,(iilfaiice. Twelve candles were placedon the roof of the bulk, which prepara-tory to the Jubilee had been white wadi-e- d

and otherwise improved and ornainen.ted. Honefl Jobfon surveyed his illumin-ated building with extacy, and frequentlyliouted out God save the king ; May helive to wear out ten thoiifniiH iuirt fflioesand as many boots ! May the kinglive for ever, and I live to see it and thendie I ! I

Female Duet dud took place late-ly between two.yonng ladies at Ratifbon, the one 14 and the other i5Syears of age, having quarrelled ahout the affections of alover, povided thcmfelves with a case ofpiflols, and in the rage pf their jealousysired at each other, with the muzzles

touching ; one of thejn was killedon the spot and the other . dangerbuflywounded.

There is now redding at Stafford a manot the name of Nolan who is at presentmarried to hrcno- - sixth wise, and 1 aby the whole 73 children. He is to'5?ears of age, and his present wise is nowpregnant.
