Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History

The Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, a 167,000 square-foot building in downtown Frankfort, opened in 1999. Headquarters of the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS), the Center is the state’s home for history and one of three buildings on the KHS history campus. The Center for Kentucky History is a perfect venue for meetings, luncheons, dinners and special events.

As a gesture of goodwill, KHS extends a 20 percent discount off normal rental prices and free equipment rental to all non-profi t and state agency renters. This discount does not apply to damage deposits.

RENTALThe Center is available for rental Monday through Saturday. Different rental fees are charged based upon the room, date and time selected. The Center is closed for business and rental on state government holidays and Sundays. All rentals require a four hour minimum; with the rental time beginning when the fi rst person to set up for the event arrives and ending when the last person departs. Commonwealth Hall is only available for rental when the exhibitions

and library are closed to the public (after 5 p.m. Monday through

Wednesday, Friday and Saturday).

• Accommodates up to 200 for a stand-up reception

• Food and drink are not allowed in the Hall of Governors

• Setup not permitted until 5 p.m.

Monday - Saturday, 5 - 11 p.m. [no Thursday rentals]

Monday - Wednesday: $1,000 for six hours

Friday and Saturday: $1,200 for six hours

Upon entering the Center, visitors will see the central atrium with formal staircase, reminiscent of the staircase in the

Old State Capitol. A green terrazzo stone map of Kentucky, with each county outlined in brass, dominates the fl oor

of the atrium, lending signifi cance to the name Commonwealth Hall. Adjacent to Commonwealth Hall is the Hall of

Governors, a gallery of more than 50 portraits that pay tribute to Kentucky’s former chief executives. Measuring 3,666

square feet, Commonwealth Hall is an ideal setting for memorable after-hours events. Only the fi rst fl oor of this area is

available for use during events.

Brown-Forman Kentucky RoomThis versatile 4,000 square-foot space is the perfect setting for dinners, parties, receptions, meetings and seminars. Located on the fi rst fl oor of the Center for Kentucky History, the Brown-Forman Kentucky Room is designed to be accessible, attractive, functional and private. This room is available for rental Monday through Saturday.

Cralle-Day GardenThe Brown-Forman Kentucky Room opens into the Cralle-Day Garden, a lovely green space in

the heart of historic downtown Frankfort. The walled garden is bordered by Clinton and Ann

streets, and the Old Governor’s Mansion. This outdoor space is a wonderful venue for any

party, reception or other event.

• Dimensions: 120’ x 130’• The maximum capacity for the Garden is 200 people.

• The Cralle-Day Garden is available with the rental of Brown-Forman Kentucky Room for a

special add-on rate*.

• Sole rental of Cralle-Day Garden does not grant use of the Brown-Forman Kentucky Room.

• In the event of adverse weather, the renter may use the Brown-Forman Kentucky Room, but

must pay the difference.

• The Brown Forman Room has a capacity of 200. In the case of inclement weather, the number

of guests from outside in addition to the number of guests inside cannot exceed this number.

Perched on the second level of the Center for Kentucky History, the Jones Board Room is a great venue

for board meetings and conference calls. The room is furnished with 20 cushioned seats, a counter for

refreshments and a 20 foot boardroom-style table.

Additional Information

EQUIPMENTThe following audio/visual equipment is available for rent, but is for use on KHS grounds only. Prices are for any length of time for one calendar day. Non-profi t/state agency renters may use this equipment free-of-charge.

Directions:From the west (Louisville)From Louisville on I-64, take Frankfort exit 53B to U.S. 127. Continue on U.S. 127, crossing U.S. 60 and crossing over the Kentucky River. After crossing the bridge, U.S. 127 becomes Clinton St. Continue to the second light and turn right onto Ann St. Drive one block and, immediately after crossing Broadway and the railroad tracks, turn left into the parking lot.

From the east (Lexington)From Lexington on I-64, take Frankfort exit 58 and turn right onto U.S. 60. Drive 2.5 miles and the tuen left onto E. Main St. Drive 2 miles and, immediately after passing the Capitol Ave. bridge, turn right onto High St. Drive one block and turn left onto Broadway. Immediately after crossing the railroad tracks, turn left into the parking lot.

LCD projector - $250 Includes cart, screen, and extension cord but does not include hook-up to computer, laptop or any software support. The LCD projector can also be used in conjunction with various PA system confi gurations.

DVD player - $15

Microphone/speaker combo - $50Includes two powered-speakers, one podium and one microphone.

Wireless microphone - $40Lapel microphone with transmitter and receiver that can be used with any PA confi guration in place of a standard microphone.

Small PA confi guration - $250Anything beyond microphone/speaker combo setup, with a maximum of one mixer rack, two powered speakers, two speaker stands, eight microphones, eight microphone stands and all necessary microphone cables and extension cords.

Large PA confi guration - $450Anything beyond small PA confi guration up to a maximum of or addition of the following equipment – 16 total microphones, 16 table microphone stands, two powered speakers and all necessary cables and extension cords.
