Last month I shared with you our district goals, and what we are doing as a staff to meet those goals. The focus for me personally this year revolves around goal number 2, “We will im- prove the culture and climate through the use of PBIS.” I truly believe building a positive culture is a must, and I have found the following four principles to be the most beneficial as we continue this process at Keokuk High School. Celebrate Success: A noticeable change in school culture will take place when students and teachers are publicly and privately acknowledged on an ongoing basis. I believe we have a great start in this area with our K-Pride work. Model Expectations: As a school leader, I must consistently mod- el appropriate behavior, dress, and communication to all stake- holders. Increase Parent and Community Involvement: We currently have a Core Team (teachers, students, and parents) that meets monthly to discuss how we can improve the culture and climate in our building. Develop a Shared Vision: Effectively communicating the needs of the school and answering questions from teachers and other stakeholders builds trust. This is not something we have spent a ton of time on, but I do think it is very important. Creating and communicating a shared vision for our staff, parents and stu- dents in the school will help understand where it is we are trying to go. INSIDE THIS ISSUE:

Hello KHS Parents,

Spring is near…I hope. The year continues to fly by and great things continue to happen within the walls at Keokuk High School. Last month I shared with you our district goals, and what we are doing as a staff to meet those goals. The focus for me personally this year revolves around goal number 2, “We will im-prove the culture and climate through the use of PBIS.” I truly believe building a positive culture is a must, and I have found the following four principles to be the most beneficial as we continue

this process at Keokuk High School.

Celebrate Success: A noticeable change in school culture will take place when students and teachers are publicly and privately acknowledged on an ongoing basis. I believe we have a great

start in this area with our K-Pride work.

Model Expectations: As a school leader, I must consistently mod-el appropriate behavior, dress, and communication to all stake-

holders.

Increase Parent and Community Involvement: We currently have a Core Team (teachers, students, and parents) that meets monthly to discuss how we can improve the culture and climate

in our building.

Develop a Shared Vision: Effectively communicating the needs of the school and answering questions from teachers and other stakeholders builds trust. This is not something we have spent a ton of time on, but I do think it is very important. Creating and communicating a shared vision for our staff, parents and stu-dents in the school will help understand

where it is we are trying to go.

Thanks for your continued support and

stop in or call me anytime.

Go Chiefs,

Zach Wigle
