Thank youForemost, we say, thank you. Thank you for facing a difficult decision with hope; hope of providing a bright future for your precious child. We are honored that you would consider us as adoptive parents. Whatever your circumstance, we know that this must be the most painful, self-sacrificing act of love you do for your child.

Thank you for taking the hard steps towards hope and joy; for you and for your baby. It’s a profound honor for us that you would take a few moments to get to know us and begin to understand our desires to be loving parents to your child.

dEaR BIRTh paREnTS,Thank you for taking time to consider us as a forever family for your precious little one. The selfl ess love you are now showing is courageous and inspiring. Please know that even as you read this, we are praying for you, that God will lead you and comfort you in your important decision.

We have wanted a child for several years and are excited at the possibility that we might one day be parents. We are grateful for the gift of adoption and believe this is a beautiful example of God’s own love as God also adopted us. We believe family is something God knits together through love and because we have been loved much, we have a lot of love to share.

Though we are exceedingly grateful for the lives we have been given, we are hopeful that one day we can share this with a child. We are eager to welcome a little one into our hearts and our home.

Even as we are hopeful to become parents, we also want to acknowledge the great love you are demonstrating in placing your child with a forever family. As we hope to cuddle and care for, play and sing to sleep, nurture and guide this child, we know this is only possible because you fi rst loved and acted in tremendous faith. We are ever mindful of your great love and stand humbled and in awe of your gift of life.

May God bless and keep you for now and always,

Kevin and Kimberly

Kevin and Kimberly met in the fall of 1995 at a church in Nashville. But it wasn’t exactly love at first sight. Kevin was serving as the part-time music director and Kimberly, a newcomer to the church, introduced herself to him and expressed interest in singing in the choir.

“I’ve sung all my life and have a four-octave vocal range!” Kimberly touted excitedly. Somewhat put off with her zeal and enthusiasm, Kevin simply nodded and instructed her to take a seat with the rest of the sopranos in the choir.

As the months passed and Kimberly became more involved in the music program, the two found themselves

spending more and more time together in rehearsals and planning meetings. These proved to be opportunities for the couple to get to know each other and discover their “creative differences.” After about six months of back and forth irritating jabs and smirks, the couple started to date.

“They say there’s a fine line between love and hate. I guess you could say we crossed over to love,” remembers Kevin.

“He would call me everyday,” recalls Kimberly. “I made a mark on my calendar every time he called me. We definitely had strong reaction to each other in the early days, but looking back now, it’s obvious we had fallen in love.”

FRoM MuSIC RoW To RoWS oF CoRnAfter about a year of dating, Kevin and Kimberly were married in an outdoor wedding on the steps of beautiful, historical, antebellum mansion in Nashville. As they settled into their new life together, Kevin worked full-time in the music business on Music Row in the Creative Services department of Word Entertainment, while continuing part-time at the church. Kimberly worked at a Crisis Pregnancy Center providing resources and support to the area schools and churches on sex education, while serving on staff with Kevin as part-time youth director. Their life as newlyweds was filled with laughter, precious moments with friends and family, and looking forward with anticipation to how their lives together would unfold.

“We really enjoyed our life in Nashville, but we both began to feel that a change was coming. It became apparent that Kimberly was sensing a calling from God to receive formal training as a minister,” shares Kevin. Kimberly eagerly filled out an application for admission to Anderson University’s School of Theology. “I really didn’t know how this was going to go,” recalls Kimberly, “and I was a little anxious about the possibility of not being accepted. But, I knew I had to take this leap of faith and trust that God would make a way forward.”

Several months passed and then the letter came. Kimberly was accepted into the School of Theology. Within weeks, the couple sold their home and left family and jobs in Music City and moved to the small town of Anderson, Indiana, tucked neatly between the rows of cornfields in the great mid-west.

In time, Kimberly served as a ministry coordinator for a women’s ministry organization and later as campus pastor for Anderson University. Today, she is an ordained minister and serves as Professor of Biblical Studies at the seminary. Kevin continues to work at Madison Park Church and enjoys opportunities to freelance in graphic and website design, as well as refinishing furniture as a hobby.

Although the couple thought they would be in Anderson for about three years–to allow Kimberly to complete her master’s degree– over a decade later, the couple have put down deep roots in the heartland and have surrounded themselves with a strong network of supportive friends and a loving church community. Kevin’s brother, Mark and his family (wife, Debi and three elementary age daughters) also relocated to the Anderson area a few years ago, making the Hoosier state even more a place called home.

“Looking back now, we couldn’t have imagined all the wonderful opportunities and experiences we would enjoy as we began our life together,” the couple shares. “Becoming parents and building a loving home for a child is a hope that we pray will soon become a new chapter in our ever–unfolding love story.”

Why adopTIon IS RIghT FoR uSWe arrived at the decision to adopt after learning that we are unable to have children with our biology. Creating a family by adoption versus biology wasn’t a difficult shift for us. Perhaps it’s because we believe that families are forged in love.

The inescapable love and grace we experience from God profoundly shapes what kind of parents we want to be:

• Parents who provide unconditional love. • Parents whose arms are always open to comfort and encourage. • Parents who understand that we all need grace and mercy as we grow day by day. • Parents who seek wisdom and insight from family and friends for the difficult time in life. • Parents who know how to seek out and celebrate the simple joys of everyday life.

As parents we understand that we are being entrusted with a miracle of God–a unique and precious soul, whose journey in life we lovingly guide and direct with an open heart for the person the child has been created to become.

One of the blessings we have with our careers and work settings is flexibility. As a professor, Kimberly enjoys having summers off from work–allowing her to devote her time to being at home. Kevin has worked for more than a decade at his job and enjoys ample vacation and personal time. Both Kevin and Kimberly work just minutes away from their home and occasionally work remotely.

As one of the eldest cousins in her family Kimberly has years of experience “raising” children (newborns through the sometimes trying teen years). I’ve often noticed that children are naturally drawn to Kimberly. She has a certain joyful and disarming energy that people of all ages seem to admire. I’m sure her bright eyes and beautiful smile have something to do with it, too. – Kevin

Just ask his brother’s kids who live nearby, to describe “Uncle Kevin” and you’ll probably hear: Crazy, funny, a jokester, “kinda a big deal,” and talented. That’s because Uncle Kevin isn’t afraid to be silly with them (including dancing a jig on Christmas morning) or making a fool of himself by wearing Snoopy Valentine boxers on the outside of his sweatpants for a special Valentine cookie-making day. –Kimberly

Our home is often fi lled with family and friends, music and laughter. Summers are spent by the pool and cold winter nights are passed snuggled in front of the fi re. Some of our hobbies are travelling, gardening and entertaining. We love good music and good food!

At our house, baking Christmas cookies with family is a highlight of the holidays! We swap favorite cookie recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. We love sharing our goodies with friends and neighbors. Each year, during our annual Christmas cookie bake-off , a horse and carriage rides through our neighborhood! ‘Tis the season!

We love spending time with our family! Our baby will enjoy lots of laughs and will make special memories with these loving cousins. We have six nieces! Three of our nieces, Ava, Sarah and Leah all live in Fishers, Indiana. Lylah, Landynne and Rae’Ven live in Nashville, Tennessee and we visit them often!

Currently, our household consists of two beautiful cats, Monkey and Henry. They have had all their shots are gentle and funny and love children. They are excited to welcome a new brother or sister soon!

Enjoy ThE unExpECTEdOne story that Kevin and Kimberly enjoy sharing about their courtship is the time when then couple took an impromptu trip.

It was a warm late summer evening–a Friday night at the end of a long, exacerbating week. We decided to unwind by going to the nearby lake to watch the sunset in the cloudless sky and wait for the stars to come out. In the distant heavens, an airplane quietly glided by. Inspired by the freedom with which it soared away, Kevin turned to Kimberly and said, “Come on, let’s go to the airport and see where we can go!”

Kimberly thought he was joking. But he wasn’t. “They have flights with stand-by seating. I bet we could get cheap round-trip tickets to…somewhere! Let’s go and see what’s available!”

“You’re crazy!” Kimberly said. “We don’t have anything to wear tomorrow! There’s not way we can do this!”Kevin insisted they could buy a change of clothes and any necessities once they got to their destination.

He felt this was an opportunity to enjoy a moment of spontaneity–wherever it leads– and make a great memory. Kimberly nervously agreed. With the no more than a moment’s notice and only the clothes on their backs they jumped into Kimberly’s car and headed to the Nashville airport.

They pulled into the long-term parking lot and quickly made their way to the ticket counter. “We could probably stay with my step-brother in Baltimore! Maybe we could fly there,” Kimberly thought. “What about Denver? Or Miami? Do we know anyone in Seattle?” The excitement about the possibilities was building and the two were starting to imagine how their wonderfully wacky weekend might turn out. Then came the bad news.

None of the flights offered two seats on the same plane. They could get to the same city, but not at the same time. This was obviously not the romantic adventure they had envisioned. Enter, Plan B.

“North, south, east or west?” Kevin asked Kimberly. “What?” she replied. “North, south, east or west? Where do you want to go? North, south, east or west?”“West, I guess!?! What’s happening?”“We’re heading west!” Kevin smiled. From the ticket counter, the couple raced to their car

Page 21: Kevin and Kimberly

and headed…west. Memphis, to be exact. With stops along the way to purchase a change of clothes and snacks, Kevin and Kimberly set out on a three-day/two-night adventure to Memphis. With no agenda, except to relax and have fun, the couple relished in three days of great Memphis ribs, a tour of Elvis’s Graceland and a few Krispy Kreme donuts before heading back to Nashville.

“We’ll probably never again just drop everything and jump in a car for a road trip like we did back then,” reminisces Kevin. “But we do value keeping life interesting and looking for unexpected opportunities enjoy new experiences.”

“As parents, we want to balance a child’s need for a stable and secure home life with a healthy sense of adventure for life’s unplanned moments.”
