contacted Kevin Brauer to

help coordinate volunteers

for Bernie’s first Colorado

rally at DU. Kevin was the

2012 House District 8 Walt

Beckert Volunteer of the

Year Award winner. He has

served as Co-Captain of

HD8A 3 times from 2009 to

present. He campaigns hard

for the most progressive

candidates and issues

facing HD8 and Senate

District 33. Kevin has

actively volunteered

promoting the ideals of

Colorado Healthcare for All,

foreclosure & criminal justice

reform, renewable energy

promotion, environmental

protection, and right to rest

for our homeless citizens.

Kevin Brauer was a 2016

Caucus site coordinator at

Manual High School this

year. Professionally, Kevin is

a Registered Nurse, mostly

in acute care settings.

On April 30, 2015; Democrat Angela

Williams KILLED the FAMLI Act in

committee!

“The FAMLI Act, House Bill

15-1258, sponsored by Reps. Faith

Winter and Joe Salazar, would

have established a family and

medical leave insurance programfor employees to receive wage

replacement when they need to

care for themselves, an ill family

member, or the birth or adoption of

a new baby.”(Colorado 9to5)

Representative Joe Salazar has

given great speeches supporting

all of the values of Bernie Sanders

(the FAMLI Act for example), yet he

grandstands for candidates like

Angela Williams who often sides

with corrupt corporate interests in

the Colorado Assembly by killing

bills that WE THE PEOPLE need

for our very survival. Kevin Brauer

will always support the Party

Platform Planks and political

candidates who support legislation

and policy that helps our most

vulnerable citizens. Kevin Brauer

has been a resident of Colorado’s

Senate District 33 since 1992 andhe strongly supports Jon

Biggersta" in that race because

Jon fully supports the rejection of

dirty corporate money in politics,

the FAMILI Act, universal single

payer healthcare, the RIGHT TO

REST Act, the full repeal of the

2006 HB06-1387 (written by the

banks and passed by a Republican

majority that stripped the rights offamilies facing foreclosure),

criminal justice reform, and real

housing solutions for Colorado’s

poor.

Kevin Brauer has been a

mentor, group leader, &

camp nurse for Colorado

Youth at Risk and in 2012

received the CYAR Circleof Champions Volunteer of

the Year Award.

Also in 2012, the

Democratic Party of

Denver House District 8

presented Kevin with the

Walt Beckert Volunteer of

the Year Award.

Kevin Brauer moved to Colorado in

1990 to complete a Sports Science

internship at the US Olympic

Training Center Colorado Springs

In 1990, Kevin joined COSA, Colorado’s

LGBTQ Ski and Outdoor Club. He attended

Gay Games III in Vancouver that year and

ran the 5K. In 1994 Kevin joined the Board

of Team Colorado and has served as

Secretary, Vice President, Co-President, and

as their Director Delegate to the international

board of the Federation of Gay Games. He

attended Gay Games IV NYC 1994, GGV

Amsterdam 1998, Gay Games VI 2002

Under New Skies Sydney Australia (winning

a silver medal in Ice Hockey), GLISA’s World

Outgames Montreal 2006, World Outgames

Copenhagen 2009 (winning a silver medal in

triathlon), Gay Games VIII 2010 Cologne

Germany, and World Outgames 2013 Antwerp Belgium as a member of the

International Board of Directors of the Gay &

Lesbian International Sports Association.

In 1992, Kevin helped reorganize

Denver’s LGBT swimming, bicycling, and

running clubs. The Colorado Whitewater

Aquatics/Swimming Queers United In

Denver SQUID swim team, Denver Out

Spokin, and Denver Frontrunners. He was a

founding member of the Colorado Gay Ice

Hockey Association/Climax Ice Hockey

Teams and served as Volunteer Coordinator

for their Coors Cup Ice Hockey Charity

Tournaments. Until knee injuries curtailed

the fun, Kevin was an original member of the

gay Colorado Rush Rugby Football Club.

Outside of all the sports, Kevin has

been a very active volunteer and public

policy wonk for the Democratic Party of

Denver. In 2009, Kevin convinced his fellow

House District 8 O#cers to include the

serving of wine at our Annual Spaghetti

Dinner. It became the MOST successful

fundraising event we have ever had and has

only grown in popularity. All of Denver’s

FINEST public servants ALWAYS attend and

support our HD8 Spaghetti Dinner and its atime for all of us to forget the minor

di"erences in our progressive values and

celebrate each other (while making a strong

case for better progressive values).
