Key Biodiversity Areas Journey Across the most important sites for nature
Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) are “sites that contribute significantly to the global persistence of biodiversity”, on land, in freshwater, and in the seas. KBAs are identified through national processes convened by local stakeholders using a set of globally-agreed
scientific criteria.
KBAs provide critical information to:
Assist the selection of sites for protection and conservation
Contribute to the achievement of global targets, such as Aichi Biodiversity Target 11 and 12, or Sustainable Development Goals
Support private and financial sectors to manage their environmental risks
Strengthen conservation actions
on the ground
This KBA journey will take you across the globe, from the Mediterranean to Myanmar. Come and learn how you can identify which sites are the most important for nature, how you can use this information for land-planning and for conservation action, or how businesses can operate
in KBAs in a sustainable way.
