1. A One on One Conversation with Eustacia Cutler - Author of: “A Thorn in My Pocket”. Eustaicai will explore the traits and lacks of autism. She will take questions from the audiance during this specail One on One Conversation.

2. Best Practices for Autism Spectrum Disorders: Developmental Treatment Approaches with a Multidisciplinary Team (Ages 0 to 3) Over the past years, Autism Spectrum Disorders have been diagnosed at a much earlier age which helps lead to improved prognosis over time. Given this, all developmental milestones must be considered in the treatment process as well as utilizing a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. With this said, we will be presenting “best practices” that individualize treatment needs for the 0-3 age group which consists of the following: assessment approaches: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA); Greenspan (Floortime) approach; Incidental Teaching; TEACCH; Hanen, Integrated Play Dates/Groups; Occupational Therapy; Physical Therapy (where applicable); Speech Therapy; parent education and most importantly approaches to generalization. - Presented by Megan Hammerman-Murdock, LCSW, Allison Freccero, OTR/l, and Jacqueline Chapman M.S., CCP-SLP

3. Meeting the Dental Care Needs of Your Child - Will focus on the prevention of dental diseases, and how to apply this information in practical ways to improve oral health outcomes. The presentation will highlight how dental diseases, such as tooth decay and gum disease, are caused by bacteria which have been linked to systemic health conditions. Tools and techniques for prevention will be discussed, as well as a hands-on demonstration. - Presented by Deborah Narcisso, RDHAP

4. Legal Issues - Discussion of three types of conservatorship available - general, limited, and LPS conservatorship for the gravely disabled. Also: special needs trusts and their role as a management tool to ensure that special needs individuals maintain a high quality of life while still qualifying for social security and medi-cal benefits. - Presented by Allen Flieshman

3:30 Breakout Session 2

1. Evidence Based Approach to Supporting Parents with Children with Autism - One of the greatest challenges of being a parent with a child with autism is knowing how to reduce the behaviors that are causing stress, increasing your child’s communication, and find-ing effective ways to reduce your own stress. The benefits are numerous for the child with autism and the child’s family if their parents learn the skills mention above. Participants will also be trained and learn skills using an example directly from the program. - Presented by Jennifer Pham MSW and Glenn Thomas LCSW

2. Best Practices for Autism Spectrum Disorders: Developmental Treatment Approaches with a Multidisciplinary Team (Ages 3 Plus) While the debate as to the efficacy of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) treatment models continues, we are seeing a movement towards more naturalistic, developmentally appropriate interventions. Due to the heterogeneous nature of ASD, no single approach or therapy is appropriate for all individuals. This session will present an approach to ASD treatment for children three years and older that enables clinicians and families to use multiple treatment methodologies simultaneously. Information will be presented through a review of treatment methodologies, application of best practice, presentation of model programs, and discussion of specific strategies for imple-mentation. - Presented by Matthew McAlear, M.Ed., and Andrew Shahan, M.A.

3. Meeting the Emotional Needs of Parents, Children and Infants - This workshop will look at types of emotional needs children and parents may have and how to address them. - Presented by Dr. Susan Detrick, Anna Fernandez MFT, and Hebe Estrella Schultz, MD

4. Social Recreation -From Segregated to Inclusive and Everything in Between! - This presentation will focus on building an aware-ness of social recreation opportunities and utilizing the right “tools” to create a successful experience for you, your child and the service provider. It’s important to remember that services for persons with disabilities are not a “one size fits all” situation. We want to help you to learn the right questions to ask and the right information to provide. - Presented by Donna Hepp, Sue Floethe, and Richard Frazier

1:45 Breakout Session 1

1. Practical Strategies to Help Students Develop Better Social Thinking and Related Social Skills. - Social thinking and related social skills requires adult educators to be highly aware of the dynamic nature of social development. This workshop will review how to help teach our students that the social rules change with age and make the implicit nature of the “hidden curriculum” more explicit. Furthermore, social thinking is highly related to people’s emotional responses; cognitive behavioral techniques such as Social Behavior Mapping help to clarify how to take abstract social concepts and teach them in more concrete ways. Workshop participants will come away with clear ideas of how to use strategies to help teach our students how to process these complex ideas more easily. - Presented by Michelle G. Winner and Dr. Pamela Crook

2. Bridging The Gap, Part 1 ( Ages 0 to 5) - A two part event with a moderated panel discussion in the morning and a hands-on workshop in the afternoon. Overall goal will be to develop effective strategies in serving the needs of children 5 and younger. The focus of both the panel and the workshop will be on building relationships that serve to support child and family needs through communication, collaboration, cooperation and coordination. - Presented by Dr. Carrie Molho, Rajni Madan, Michelle Oliver, Janice Battaglia, Margarita Gomez, and Howard Doi

3. Skills for Living - Skills that adolescents with disabilities need to learn in order to have as independent a life as possible. How to prioritize these skills and make them both meaningful and effective. - Presented by Shelley Davis

4. How to Keep Your Sanity and Survive a Picky Eater! - Participants will gain knowledge about the importance of nutrition in early childhood and what the components of successful feeding are. The Feeding Relationship will be defined and explored as it pertains to young picky eaters. General Feeding Guidelines and understanding growth trends will be reviewed for children birth to 5 years of age. Red flags for parents and caregivers will be defined, in addition to strategies to try at home and school. Target audience: parents, caregivers, early childhood educators of infants, toddlers and preschoolers. - Presented by Kathy Wahl, MA, RD, ECSE

3:30 Breakout Session 2

More than 50 strategies for managing stress effectively will be presented, and some will be demonstrated. Participants will take home personalized self-assessments and action plans. - Presented by Dr. Marisol Muñoz-Kiehne

2. Bridging the Gap, Part 2 - Hands-on Workshop : Building a Web of Support ( Ages 0 to 5) - Small group activities that demonstrate how we can build a web of support within the community using scenarios. Members of the previous panel will fa-cilitate this workshop.
