What can you do to help keep your employees and business safe?

1. Do employees know what to do if thebuilding has to be evacuated? Develop, post,and practice your company’s evacuation planso that everyone knows what to do.

2. Do employees know what to doif there is a fire? Make sure thatemployees know how to put outsmall fires using a portable fire extinguisher.

3. Do employees know what to do if someone is injured or suffers from a medical problem?Provide employees with the opportunity to take a First Aid or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) class.

4. Do employees know what to do ifthey are forced to remain at work for an

extended period of time? Prepare your employees by having a plan and by providing kits containing items for an extended stay.

What can your fire department do to help?Puget Sound Fire offers many classes to help protect your employees and business during an emergency.

1. Fire Extinguisher Class: Thisone hour class provides both classroom and hands-on trainingon fire extinguisher identification, maintenance, and use.

2. Evacuation Planning and Drills: Fire and life safety experts willsit down with you to discuss,plan, and help you practice yourescape plan.

3. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training for Businesses: This two day class provides your employees with a basic understanding of what to do during a disaster and includes both classroom and hands-on training.

4. CERT: This eight week program meets forone 3½ hour class each week and providesextensive classroom and hands-on trainingthat includes search and rescue, disastermedical, hazardous materials, and disasterpsychology.

5. First Aid/CPR classes: Classes range fromfour to eight hours and provide certificationlevel training on what to do during a medicalemergency. Automatic external defibrillation(AED) training is also available.

6. Participation in company safety events:Your fire department is available to provide

information and brochures for employees at safety fairs, meetings, or other events.
