Birth to 40 Khadijah was called al-Taahirah when she was

young.She used to feed and clothe the poor, assist her

She inherited a lot of wealth.She had a thriving trading business.She turned down a number of proposals for

marriage.She was known for her intelligence and wisdom

Khadijah – the business ladyShe would hire business partners to

go with her caravans and give them a percentage (mudaarabah)

She became the richest lady in all of Makkah. Her Caravans were huge.Allah speaks of the caravans

travelling in winter and summer in Surah Quraish


Surah Quraish (#106)(It is great grace from Allah) for the

protection of the Quraish.(And with all those Allah’s Grace

and Protection), We cause the Quraish caravans to set forth safe in the winter (to the south) and in summer (to the north without any fear)


Reference in Qur’an to Khadijah’s wealth

Alam ya jidka yateeman fa’aawaa (Did He not find you an orphan and gave you shelter?)

Wa wajadaka daaalan fahadaa (Did He not find you unaware of the Right way, and then directed you to it?)

Wa wa jadaka ‘aailan fa aghnaa (Did he not find you in want and then enriched you?)

Marriage of Khadijah to the Prophet (saw)


Early years of MarriageVery little information available about

early years of marriage life. Three reasons for this:

1.Khadijah died in Makkah2.All children died early3.Incidents occurred in the house of the Prophet (saw)


The Prophet Muhammad used to seek seclusion in Ghar Hira (Cave of Hira) – at times for one whole month. (Ibn Hisham)


An Angel visited the Prophet (saw) in the cave.

The First revelation of Qur’an came down – Surah al ‘Alaq : 1 - 5

What happened to An Nabi (saw)His chest was shaking. His heart

began to palpitateHe rushed home to KhadijahHe said – I think that I have lost my

mindKhadijah consoled him with

comforting words

She sought advice from her cousin Waraqa ibn Nawfal


He (saw) again rushed to Khadijah saying Dath-thirooni, Dath-thirooni.

Allah then revealed Surah al Muddathir : 1 - 7


Khadija in the first JamaatYahya ibn Afeef visited

makkah to do business with Abbas and observed

three people at the Ka’abah praying.

This incident is detailed in the books of Imam Ahmad and Tirmidhi

Best women of mankindAnas reports that the Messenger of

Allaah, salla Allaahu alaihi wa sallam, said: 'The best women of

mankind are four: Mariam daughter of `Imraan, Assiya wife of Pharaoh, Khadija daughter of Khuwailid, and

Fatima the daughter of the Messenger of Allaah.' [Bukhari and Muslim]

Aisha jealous of KhadijahNarrated 'Aisha: I did not feel jealous of any

of the wives of the Prophet as much as I did of Khadija, (although) she died before he married me, for I often heard him mentioning her, and Allaah had told him to give her the good tidings that she would have a palace of Qasab (i.e. pipes of precious stones and pearls in Paradise), and whenever he slaughtered a sheep, he would send her women-friends a good share of it. [Sahih al-Bukhari]
